I saw the film in the cinema when it first came out and these days, if it's on, I still watch and it's every bit as good as it was in '73. Truly a timeless classic.
Yeah, best film Lucas ever made. Even better than Star Wars. In an interview, he realised this and now knows the mess he made of the Star Wars prequels as well.
I saw it the last day. Phew. Because I was in my last year of school. One of my top 10 all time easily. I haven't gone to see anything since 2006. Haven't missed much. Close Encounters and E T were the STUPIDEST movies I ever saw. OMG. Didn't exactly want to see Star Wars either. LOL.
One of my Top 5 movies. My friends and I had been cruising our local Blvd. in SoCal for a couple of years when AG came out. We didn’t have a ‘32 Ford Coupe cruising our Blvd., but we had a lot of 60’s rods. We were living our own version of American Graffiti, and I have a lot of GREAT memories of those much simpler, very fun times.
As a kid who grew up a greaser, I have always loved American Graffiti. It's amazing how the cast went on to some pretty iconic roles and productions. It was no accident that many of them wound up in Ron Howard movies, as he tends to cast old friends (and his brother) in most of his movies. I met Candy Clark some years back at a toy/trading card convention I attended with my son. As I was walking along, this woman and I started talking, and then I realized who she was. (She was there to sign autographs.) It was a nice moment, as she was so down to earth, and we had a nice chat. I also met Erin Murphy ("Tabitha" from Bewitched) in much the same way at that show. Beautiful lady, and when I realized who she was, I did her little motion of twitching my nose with my finger, and she reached over and touched my arm, and we laughed. It was a pretty cool moment.
One of my favorite movies of all time! Never get tired of watching it. We are classic car people and have met "Debbie", Candy Clark numerous times at classic car show events around the US. She is such a nice person and loves taking to her fans. She is from Ft. Worth, Texas originally. I am looking forward to seeing Candy again soon. If you know most of the lines in the movie- She autographed her photo for me saying " girls don't pay- guys pay"! LOL!
I met Paul LeMat in 1996 at a Huge '50's 4 day car show called Lead East in Parsippany, N.J. I worked the Show 10 years. Paul was signing autographs at a table. As only Paul LeMat. When it was my turn l asked him if he could sign it John Milner. He signed both names for me. That was COOL!!
Born in 1950 and bought my 1957 GM car in 1966 in Texas for $250. Later lived in the Valley near Merced California 1973 to 1975. Wolfman was known to me before I heard of the movie, which I didn't see until I moved back to Texas. Always knew it would become an icon classic. Amazing how Lucas turned his maverick movie into a hit and started or catapulted actors into super famous careers. The movies return on investment was and still is phenomenal. Thanks for putting this info together. I
As a kid growing up in the seventies and watching fifties movies and listening to rock' n' roll from that era I really thought I missed the party. Years later, I know I did.
In 1962 we were under the bench in the school basement doing an A-Bomb drill. LOL Way north in Edmonton, that was training center for aircrews in the war.
I met Candy Clark at Autorama in Sacramento about 8 years ago. She was just as beautiful and sweet as I'd hoped she'd be. I briefly interviewed her and got to sit next to her where she was signing autographs and I swear she smelled like a strawberry milkshake!
One of my all time favorite movies! For one of your upcoming videos I would like to see how some the cast has changed from the movie volunteers. Another one of my faves!
Nostalgia Hit, I really love your videos. They are very informative, entertaining and it's evident that you put a lot of work into these. Thank you for sharing them.
American Graffiti was about us ripping up and down the streets in our hot rods. i to am 75 years of age. Sure was great times. It’s funny but every time I watch it I see things that I missed or I didn’t see time before. Great movie. Our lives have went bye as fast as our cars.
"Where was you in 62"... i wssnt born at tge time but it my favourite film. Wall to wall rock'n'roll music and John Miller's 32 5window deuce coupe - the fastest thing in the valley
I was 13 in '73. AG is an ATF. Seen it over 10 times and love every character and the cars. For another good coming of age in this period I liked "Breaking Away". or "My Bodyguard".
So did " Richie Cunningham's " older brother on "Happy Days " . In BOTH instances , Ron Howard was in the immediate vicinity just prior to the unacknowledged disappearances ! Just sayin ' !!!
One of my fave COA movies is Stand by Me. So many reminders of what I did growing up. American Graffiti was one of my fave COA movies for sure. Hard to choose a fave, but I thought I'd suggest what I just did.......
In 1973 I took my 55 Chevrolet with my 327 mill; 12 to 1 TRW high dome's, 202 heads, Edelbrock Trantula intake, Holley 600 double pumper, Mallory Dule Point, Hooker Headers, Thrush straight pipes and a couple of buddies to the VFW Drive-In to catch this cool car culture movie. All through out the picture I kept hearing, Hey 55, "PEEL OUT" "Burn Rubber", "Light 'em Up", "Smoke them tires baby". And you know when the movie was over, I left a 9 alarm smoke show, burnt posi black rubber on to that VFW Parkway that lasted halfway through into the winter! Fond memories indeed.
I meant Candy Clark twice Paul Le mat three times and Bo Hopkins one time all three were very nice people all three autographed around my wall they're not going anywhere ..also I was ask if i was on a desert island and had only 1 movie to watch.....AMERICAN GRAFFITI
Hi Nostalgia Hit! Your videos are so awesome! And you’re my favorite TH-camrs in the whole world! You’re amazing 😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤💖💖💖💞💞💞💜💜💜😘😘💙💙💙💙 And also, in 2 days is Murray Cook’s birthday. And he’s was in the band called The Soul Movers.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 Ps. I love American Grafetti. When it came out, the streets were loaded with muscle cars and hot rods. The cruise up and down the main drag. I only wish someone would do a modern version with local hangouts. The street racing course that a bit illegal.
I loved the movie. The ending was chilling and spectacular. I refuse to admit that American Graffiti Two exists. As far as I’m concerned, the nerdy kid died in Vietnam.
Paul Le Mat is an American hero, and doesn't deserve to be clickbait. However, you did mention his contribution as a Navy veteran, so that's good. Anyway, I had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Le Mat for a while at a car show in Riverside CA, about 2009. From what I could tell in that short time, he seems like one of the nicest people I've ever met. Really. And I've met other more, and less of the famous, as I have worked in Hollywood to a small degree.
Bob in Michigan It's really amazing to me that nobody bought the '32 Ford for that price after the movie had been out for a while, and either cruised with it or just stuck it in storage -- knowing that it would just keep getting more valuable as time went on.
You can see the "7 degrees of Ron Howard" how his experience on Graffiti and hi relationships with so many of the Actors that he peppered them throughout his later work.
The family went to the movies when I was about 13. One side had this and the other side was showing "The Sting". I chose this and watched alone as I was both a budding gearhead and into "retro" long before it was popular. For a future vid, do the cast of "Pretty on Pink", another iconic 'coming of age' pic.
American Graffiti time setting in 1962. Filmed just 10 years later and released a year later in 73'. I was a young kid in 62' and I can say 1962 and 1973 were like night and day. By 73' America was taking a dump but nowhere near the current sh!thole like we see in America in 2023.
Harrison ford--draft dodger--in the same boat as jane fonda,...Paul "John Milner" was an exact double for my best friend Jim, LOVED his 32, he did an excellent job!...Terry the toad, he played such a good spaz....Dreyfus, excellent actor....we saw the movie when it came out....can't believe those actors have all aged (means i did too)
Yes, I agree with you. I also liked “Summer of ‘42.” Although both movies left unrealistic expectations of how easy it is for teen aged boys to seduce experienced, older, married women. In reality: It’s very hard, not to mention dangerous, and something the average person shouldn’t attempt; unlike the principal characters in the 2 aforementioned “Coming of Age” movies from the early 1970’s. Both great movies, but not real life.
I saw the film in the cinema when it first came out and these days, if it's on, I still watch and it's every bit as good as it was in '73. Truly a timeless classic.

That film keeps me going. That was My LIfe on screen. Those were great Happy Days and I'm glad and lucky to have lived them.

Hard to believe fifty years ago. Went way too fast!
For sure, I remember when it came out I was 16 had my first car and saw it 3 times.
People in their 60’s and up seem to have much more clear memories of their youth.
@@carpe009 A lot of that has tro do with the fact those were great movies and worth remembering.
Take what you will of that
Yup!
My dad could have done an indepth commentary on the cars in the movie.......wish he were still around....miss ya pop.

That was a fantastic movie!
I still catch that one every so often. Great movie.
I was a young teenager back then and really felt I was born 10 years too late. I missed all that American GRAFFITI fun.
As a kid growing up in the seventies and watching fifties movies and listening to rock' n' roll from that era I really thought I missed the party. Years later, I know I did.
The movie took place in 62'. So if you were a teenager you must have been around in 62' to at least witness the time period.
@@matrox I was a teenager when the movie came out. Barely out of diapers in 62
@@SurfCityBill I remember the time frame like it was yesterday. The year I started kindergarten.

Love the sound track! Such an innocent time. I lament its passing.
I remember watching it at the drive-in i was thirteen. I thought it was one of the best movies ever ♥️✌️😎
I loved the movie "Breaking Away "
Funny…. I still am in’62. Fabulous film in 73 that changed my life.
I saw it at a movie theatre, I was fifteen, I thought it was great. My favorite coming of age movie was summer of forty- two
favourite film of all time
I was 13 in '73. AG is an ATF. Seen it over 10 times and love every character and the cars. For another good coming of age in this period I liked "Breaking Away". or "My Bodyguard".
You ever notice that “Falfa’s girl” just disappears and it’s never explained what happened to her?
So did " Richie Cunningham's " older brother on "Happy Days " . In BOTH instances , Ron Howard was in the immediate vicinity just prior to the unacknowledged disappearances ! Just sayin ' !!!
I think he just rotated chicks in and out of his car.
Im same ahe as most in movie. Ive got several copies and still watch it. Coolest. Have talked to many of cast members over years
Great video! The remastered movie is currently screening on select theaters today, Aug 30th

Best. Movie. Ever!
My favorite film! Saw it when it first came out and MANY times since then.

Dazed and confused is my favorite. Very similar to my high school 😊
Terry McGovern was one of my fave DJs on the old KSAN
I loved listening to KSAN.

Candy Clark and Kathleen Quinlin look so hot in their update photos.
No fluff just to the point information
Very good.
Enjoyed video!!
I always wondered what happened to the cast of the movie
Hair
And
Jesus Christ Superstar
Thoroughly enjoyed the video just as I loved the movie. How come there is one actor whose age is unknown?
I got the chance to meet the guy who played jonmhn Milner at a car show that 32 Ford was at as well
Time go's by way to fast can't believe a lot of people passed away! What a great film!!!!

It's been a long! 50 years.
I think Debbie Does Dallas was the best coming of age video at the time it "came" out
The original Dazed and Confused. Epic!
Paul Le Mat is an American hero, and doesn't deserve to be clickbait. However, you did mention his contribution as a Navy veteran, so that's good.

Ron Howard became a great director after being a wonderful actor! Ron Howard knows the movie business!
Summer of '42.
Life is too short.
50 years, no, not possible, then, Happy Days was a spin off
And dont forget Grease
What a damned shame. They just break our hearts.
Cindy Williams was so cute!

Stand baby Me was pretty good and so was Breaking Away which is very underrated.
Outsiders was another.
Breaking away is a totally forgotten masterpiece. Dennis Quaid's debut, if I remember rightly.
Harrison Ford. Was a Roadie for the Doors. And hung out with Jim Morrison. Before he became a actor.
My favorite coming of age movie is My Bodyguard
sick movie
Ron Howard even came farther since being Opie Taylor which I will always think of him as.
All good actors.
It’s too bad George Lucas didn’t add the women in the final part where it said what happened to the characters. I read that he regretted it.
I think his biggest regret is making those godamn awful Star Wars prequels.
Bo Hopkins was in that classic B-Horror movie Uncle Sam 😂😂

Candy Clark looks pretty good for her age
Summer of 42 with Jennifer O'neil. The best.
Favorite Coming-of-age movie - Man from Snowy River
The other "coming of age" movie made in '70's for me was also "where were you in '62?": Animal House
I watched this movie years ago. Even back then, I thought Bo Hopkins was FAR too old for the role. It spoiled the film a bit.
Also had replaced the front seat with bucket seats from 1963 as lmpala it was awesome car 348 engine had lots of power
Great film. I also liked The Outsiders and The Breakfast Club.
Kathleen Quinlan and I share the same birthday, November 19th. But she's a little older than I am.
The Last Picture Show was probably the best coming of age movie. Very dramatic. Kind of sad. But good acting by everyone.
