This is exactly what I needed. 2016 Kia optima and my rear passenger window went out still just barely under warranty. In the past 2 months, my rear driver window went out. 2 weeks ago my driver front went out and now my passenger front is now out. This definately seems like a problem that is happening to every optima from these years. Now the dealership wants to charge me over $500 per door to replace and thats just too much. This video has really helped me understand that I can do this myself.

After assessing the issue, it is clear the part failed due to selection of the wrong material. The plasticizer leached out of the plastic making it brittle and it literally disintegrated to dust where the splines intermesh. My most recent one failed without even being used... The window fell during a routine drive when it was in the up position and had not been used for months.

I have had both my rear regulators fail on my 2016 Kia. I rarely use the rear windows. It is clear that this is an engineering design defect (wrong material selection). This is one of the best step by step "how to" videos I have seen. All bases were covered in a very simple and comprehensive video and description. Well Done! Thank you for taking the time to post this. Unfortunately one cannot save the crazy cost of the failed $0.50 part, but at least you can save the over $200 in labor that the typical repair shop will charge.
The only other issue is that Kia has not released this part to the aftermarket parts manufacturers, you can only purchase the part from the OEM. After nearly 6 years, it is about time to allow 3rd party manufactures the right to produce the part, to reduce the cost of fixing the quality defect Kia has put in these cars.

Great video. Thanks so much. Had already paid $250 apiece to a mobile service replace both driver's side regulators then both passenger side regulators went out. All 4 within 6 months on a 2016 Optima. What a scam. 50 cent part in regulator. Replaced rear passenger then found out front passenger part is on backorder for whole US. Kia denies any problem. Really?
Thanks so much for making it easy to do.

Just used this video to replace my girlfriends regulator on her 2017 optima ex. This has everything you need to know. I was done with the job in about an hour. Saved plenty of money, it’s not that difficult.

You're my hero! This is great. Thanks for also pointing out what the problem here happened to be. Same case in my situation.

Line up the window cradle with your hand then put the motor back. Doing so will keep the window cradle on the back of the door, in place so that when you lower the window the cradle will not move.

Just like all the other videos I've watched on this, we're suppose to GUESS how you removed the glass from the regulator?????

Was in it better to replace the little white pulley ?

  • @patrickwhelan5703

So, I did the install with the new regulator and something didn't work. The window went down a little then stopped. It closed okay but something was up. I took it apart today and realized that the bracket on the bottom of the glass needs to fit in the Big White Glass Holder on the Regulator. The first time when I screwed that 10mm bolt back in I wondered what it was threading into. Today as the glass was held up by tape I looked up and saw the black bracket that the 10mm is supposed to bolt into. Opps, my bad. In the video I am not sure it was clear as at that time he cut away from the center hole and then when he came back the bracket was resting in the white "glass catch".

Do you have to get the whole part or can you just find the circle that is broken and replace that?

@@dFreemZ (Wow, I forgot I even made this comment) Unfortunately ,it was the motor component that made it move slow. Had to take the door panel off to get a good look. Hope this helped somewhat.
