I found your break down of how to choose your pallet very helpful. What you said makes perfect sense. But of course when your faced with such a wide choice it can be daunting. The colour charts are a wonderful way to try before you buy the full size. Thank you Kelly.

This way helped me so much because of what you said. There are so many brands, so many colors that I feel like what you want to paint and how you want to paint is more important than all of it. Thinking differently made the decision easier. It still takes time, I spent about 2 months thinking about the colors and how I was going to use them before I placed my order. My advice....start with the holy trinity, ult blue, burnt sienna and yellow ochre..... Then add to it depending on what u like to do

I have made my color swatches and started picking colors. I have it narrowed down to 28 colors. I can’t decide, so I signed up for Cultivated Color class. Basic supplies I didn’t have are ordered and have started watching the videos while I wait for them to arrive.

Lisa, 28 colors is a great start. Check each color and look at your reaction, that narrowed the choice for me quite quickly.

this is great! thank you. But question: wouldn't one, for example, need both a bright clear yellow as well as a darker earthy yellow for mixing purposes, if for nothing else?

Great question, thank you. I usually use a complementary color for deepening my colors so I can get away with only the bright yellow if I choose. I did a whole video on muting tones if you want to take a look at my method.
