    I think it's a good idea to use parts with poor engraving to test paints on cause if you find a spray that can cover without burying the detail then you know you got something good. I love your videos they're very informative. Thanks!

    If you are going to test a white primer on a white object might I recommend putting a few black dots on the object you are spraying? It would help all of us to see its coverage in real time.
    Edit* the black dots would be best applied with something like a cd marker pen or possibly a sharpie.

    Thanks for the review as always! I'll probably decan the things and push them through the airbrush. 10 or 11 is a bit for a spray can, especially when my normal spray can primer is something like Rustoleum. So if I'm able to use a bit less paint over time, I'll do it that way.

  • @davep4703
    @davep4703 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Think you missed one point about the primer surfacer test, that is sanding out, does it drag.

    • @darkwood777
      @darkwood777 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would think that it would be nearly impossible to judge because other factors beyond the primer itself can affect performance. First, if you don't let it fully dry, it has an effect on sanding, and second, if you lay it on thick it will perform differently than thin coats. Other factors are the pressure you use when sanding, and the way you sand (grit selection, use of water, etc). Normally I keep several different primers on hand, and use them for different purposes (scratch filling, blending across different materials, and getting paint to adhere). Once you get used to working with your primers, you know how they each will perform and which one to use. If a primer doesn't work for you, there are many others to choose from. I mostly use Mr. Surfacer in various weights for filing and blending, and Tamiya fine spray for final coats to be painted.

      @@darkwood777 I understand, but maybe as this is classed as a water based surfacer, understanding if it can be flatted as can the lacquer version, is an important factor to a modeller intending to use it.

    Hello Robert, in a video you made reviewing the Behr premium spray paints I asked what spray primer I could use on gunpla if I was going to use those paints but avoiding damaging the plastic. You recommended Mr Hobby surfacer and Tamiya, but I only found Mr White Surfacer 1000 and then they also had these aqueous primers. Could I use these primers with Behr spray paints? The aqueous word in the name made me think they were designed for water based paints. Is that the case, or can I use them with any kind of paint? Thanks in advance.

We are currently over a year and a half late in getting the lacquer paints.
