I have a 1950's smaller non-locking slip-joint version of this knife. It has a folded stainless steel handle w/carbon steel blade. I've wanted to get this version to compare the two. Great history lesson on this knife Slick! Thanks for sharing.
@@toddguillory692 it’s one way to deal with it! My brother went out with a Texan girl for a while, she was a lovely girl and a great advertisement for your State.
The Mercators and Douk douks are great tool box and hiking knives. I always carried one in my kit on exercises too. It's such a pity such a basic tool as that can no longer be carried in the UK.
@@slick_slicers I have a couple of Douk Douks, a large and small, a blue steel, brass Japanese “what’s it” knife, all three of which, I had to file the blades smooth and generally touch them up here and there to get them presentable, given the price they go for, I was a bit put out! Now though, they’re beauties, probably more so because they’re more personal to me, having had my input. Anyway, this is a knife I really need to add to my collection! Have you checked out the German Eye Clodhoppers, I have the resin handle one, it’s one of my favourite knives, certainly carry it the most.
I have wanted one of those knives for many years, but never got around to getting one. Always liked the simple look of the knife.
They’re a nice, slim carry.
I really like my Mercator! Nice slender slim knife!! Thanks for sharing Eric!
They’re good, and there’s more to come.
Looks pretty good to me. I like simple things that can't go wrong. All the best.
Indeed, elegant in their simplicity.

Ah, you might enjoy the next one!
Thank you for sharing this one!
No problem, thanks for watching!
Otter Messer also make a very beautiful doctor's knife.I bought the one in green smooth bone but i believe they also sell a red one.
I’ve a few Otters, and I’ve never had a dud yet. Always great knives.
The smaller versions, just a bit by the way, are non locking slipjoints. Also available in different materials i thought.
Ah, you’re getting ahead of me! This is the classic, so it got its own video. On Sunday, I’ll be going in to some options.
@@slick_slicers oops, i am so sorry 😳
@@bert2530 no problem! At least you’re paying attention!
Simple and basic (minimalistic) can be very beautiful.Kaufmann means merchant.
sorry, I’m a bit late with my replies, it’s been hectic here! I meant to say that, but I completely forgot. I’d read it in Stefan Schmalhaus’ book.
Here in Texas we can carry any damn knife we please..
That’s the benefit of living in a free country! I live in George Orwell’s EngSoc of 1984!

Move to Texas... ;)

well, at least there’s one option coming up.
I have one in my EDC rotation , added a kwik thumb stud just because I had an extra , great knife .
I went through a Kwik Stud phase, but decided they were ugly. The bars look better, but don’t work so well.
@@slick_slicers I agree , they definitely take away from the asthetic appeal but add convenience on the job .
Katzen. I keep thinking about getting one of these and a Douk-Douk. Thanks for the history.
I feel I need a Douk-Douk too! Maybe, we can’t have everything, but a Douk-Douk seems an achievable goal!

it's a good name for a knife, black cat.
I couldn’t find out why the cat was there, but it certainly works!
Its actually a PUMA
because the black cat is thiiner?
pardon my ignorance, but could you get a medical excuse to carry a locking knife for reasons of accessibility and safety? Just an idea.
It’s an idea, but there’s nothing in the legislation to provide for it.
