    I lived in one of these 'garret' rooms (with my boyfriend) in Rue de Teheran, off Bvd. Haussmann 26 years ago. I can see nothing much has changed in all these years! The difference is the toilet - we had to use a toilet in the corridor that was shared by all the other tenants on that floor...it was absolutely rank!! We had a shower, a washing machine, sink and small table top oven set along one wall by the door, a futon sofa bed alongside the other wall, and a tiny wardrobe and a table and one chair along the third wall. The window was a velux which was set in the remaining wall, which was slanted - this being the roof, of course. We climbed the spiral staircase up what seemed like 50 floors it just went on forever, with our bags of shopping from Monoprix, or Prisunic. We were young then, so living like that was an adventure, no hardship. It was one of my best memories! 😊

    I'm glad you have a window so it doesnt feel claustrophobic and also provides ventilation when you cook and go to the bathroom, and it's also cool you have your own bathroom that you can go to at any time instead of having to share one. I also like that your bed it's in the same level as the rest of the apartment, instead of using one of those lofts other places have that feel claustrophobic and have to use an uncomfortable ladder to climb

    Whoever did set up this place knows his/her job.
    White colour everywhere to make it bigger, compact kitchen, compact bathroom with the wardrobe in the compact wardrobe and three-fold mirrors to do the magic of bouncing the light here and there and make the room again to looks bigger.

    Did you say 80% of those little rooms remains unused? That is a waste of space, wouldn't it be better if they took a wall down between two of them and made some into one little apartment? They would get used instead of being empty. They could even make a few bigger by using three little rooms like you have, and turning them into one. Allowing people to have a more appropriate space to live.

    I lived in a chambre de bonne in Paris in the 90's. Fith floor, no lift. No running water. I had to go to the courtyard of the building to fill jugs of water. Shared toilet in the hall (no sink or shower). But the window was huge and I have a lovely memory of my time there.

    I’m coming here from watching NYC micro apartments. I find it interesting to see the dynamics between people living in tiny apartments in NYC vs different cities around the world. I would say they are more upbeat and have a zest for life whereas people from other cities are more on the serious quieter side. lol I think New York City is definitely more my vibe at this stage of my life. Paris will have to wait. 😊

    Good choice! As long as you are young, studies and career are important. It's just a place to sleep at the shelter and safe. In big cities it is better to live in good neighborhoods and in vain you have a big apartment, if the boys with alcohol bottle are always on the stairs...

    I'm wondering how people who live in such tiny spaces and/or with many stairs cope with the covd situation if isolating or sick, it seems like it would be very challenging. The smallest place I've had was 52m2 and it had two small courtyards. I could go to 40m2 minimum I think. I see the benefits of living smaller closer to central places and work. How lovely would it also be to have a tiny cabin in the country or coast as well to escape to on weekends for a nature fix.

      It's not an apartment though, it's a room. I live in a small apartment that's about three times the size of this tiny room. It's two rooms and a shower/toilet and although it's small it feels just right for a single person. I couldn't live in a room with a toilet in the wardrobe. I do think his apartment would be good for short-term stays up to a month or so.

    I think we have to stop calling these ' apartments' or even 'studio apartments'. These are like small single hotel rooms with kitchenettes. Which we agree to pay as apartments. And I am one who loves tiny spaces, tiny houses, cabins, whatever. But I think it's shameful that the fact of living in certain cities is considered such a privilege that people agree to be stripped of a lot of money to live in basically hotel rooms.

    Greetings, I'm your newest subscriber. Woke up this morning, noticed your video on TH-cam. I love seeing how other people live, all over the world; especially Paris.
    About your tiny apartment, it works for you and that's all that matters. We can like it or not like it. You are living your life, its 15 minutes from work, Fantastic!
    Now please answer a question for me. I see that your bathroom has a shower & toilet. I didn't see a sink. Perhaps you brush your teeth, comb your hair etc.. at the kitchen sink. As an American, we are accustomed to two types of bathrooms: 1) a full bathroom with tub/shower, sink & toilet. 2) a powder room with sink & toilet. A powder room would only be present with a full bathroom on the premises.
    When I see Parisian bathrooms, I notice it is very common to have only a toilet in a room by itself with no sink to wash your hands after you wipe your ass. (Sorry to be blunt) in the US, we consider that to be unsanitary. Q: Do Parisians not find this custom unsanitary???

    • @anthonysikorski9882
      @anthonysikorski9882  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Robert, I’m glad you liked my video. Well there are “just” 120,000 apartments of this type in Paris. They are usually occupied by students. Usually you move once you get a job. Bigger apartments have a dedicated bathroom with a sink and all commodities but cost more. By the way, in this apartment, the wc has been added only recently. Many apartments of this type have a shared wc on the corridor!

      @@anthonysikorski9882 This type of tiny room is often rented by low income employees. They can live and work in Paris , and so they don't need to use transports or car a lot. But living in 9-12 sqm is very incomfortable : the toilets/shower are often used in common with other neighbours living at the same floor, you don't have a box to store quite a big part of your stuff, living under the roof is very difficult in summer (it's very hot), the walls are not well isolated ( a lot of noise, cold in winter). I lived for many years in Paris as a young woman, in such tiny rooms. Now I have a real appartement at 60 km from Paris, and I'm Glad being far away from this nightmare 😁😁🙏
