    I moved to Worthing in 1976 and discovered the Steyning line in around 1978. This was before the creation of the Downs Link and much of the old railway route was intact but very, very overgrown. The Steyning by-pass was yet to be built. I initially walked short sections from the more easily accessible areas before deciding, one memorable weekend, to walk as complete a course as I could from Shoreham to Horsham, in some places beating a path through undergrowth. It was the first of many.
    I left the area in 2012 and now live in the Highlands of Scotland. A Beeching survivor, the single track line from Inverness to Kyle, runs opposite my home. However I still have a memento of the Steyning line. A fist sized lump of coal found on the side of the embankment south of Southwater which I crafted to hold a small, electric, clock.

    Great series! Very informative... Well done, everyone involved in the production of this. Best wishes from an ex colleague on the buses. Excellent stuff, Mike and Chris!

      Hi Mark, how lovely to hear from you. We miss our bus days, but it is great fun to be collaborating on this. Episode one even featured a video from John Warr. How cool that we all still know each other. Hope you are safe and well.

      Thank you, Mark!! Lovely to hear from you on here and, if you are still the "Captain" look forward to seeing you at some events again this year, perhaps. 😊

    Absolutely loving your programme!!!
    Sussex born and bred.
    Grew up in Hove, then moved to Small Dole, just south of Henfield. Now been in Lancing for over 40 years
    Never driven, so the railway is so very important to me!

      So glad you are loving it, thank you for the lovely comment. Lancing had a massive coach building place back in the day! Please spread the word about the show :)

    This was such a fascinating watch. After viewing it, I found myself looking up the coordinates you mentioned and tracking where the line must have gone. I’ve cycled that path and driven that road and never knew! Thank you so much. I’ll be watching all your other episodes too.

    This is a wonderful piece of work and, having driven down the bypass many times, can now place the railway into context.
    It has often been of interest to try and locate various elements of the old railway to see if any of this still exists today and you sir have gone above and beyond.
    So many people pass through these areas today with no knowledge of what was once here and sincerely hope that this reaches a larger audience so that it is never forgotten.
    Thank you. All the best. Mark Stapleton

      Thank you for your lovely review, Mark. We certainly learnt a lot making this, and now, whenever I drive down that bit of the bypass, I take a look at that wall (which is more visible during the Winter).

    Bravo to Stephen and Mike for their excellent and talented presentations and narrations. I also want to take note of the wonderful work of your graphics team. The ability to overlay Stephen over the old picture of the Steyning rail platform was particularly well done to help us envision they way things were.

    Fascinating insight into the history of the town and the railway, well presented and with helpful and clever technical effects. Having been present on the day, it was good to see how the footage of Bob and Jim turned out! Well done everyone!

    This is a very professional production. This makes history come alive as it’s a carefully crafted mixture of people, what is left behind and pictures of the past and very well narrated and presented. Thank you

      @chriskirk4637 the production is top notch, and when the current location is shown , and then put into perspective as to the original photograph, now theres a reference point. To see a small portion of whats left of a crossover bridge , or a platform, and then realise what once was as to whats now, is sad and humbling to (good or bad) as to what life was in those days. Thank you again👍🤠👍

    I don't know how far ahead you are so far as filming goes , but something is happening to the bridge at southwater , it has been fenced off and sounds of demolition ? are coming from under it . Hopefully it is repair work

      Hello @colinhead284 we got a tip off that the bridge might not be accessible much longer so we all went over to Southwater way ahead of plans to research that bit of the series, to have a look and it seems it is being repaired and will be open again at some point. Lou

      Sorry @acmdv in researching the railway we have come across so much interesting history and we simply can't include it all. There's a whole documentary's worth of history just in Steyning, we have to keep reining ourselves in. Lou, Producer.

    Word of warning.....Don't fly your drone over or follow public roads,railways and built up areas its against CAA regulations.

    • @tracingtherails
      @tracingtherails  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Thank you for your concern, it is appreciated and you are quite correct. You will of course have noted the credits which list under what regulations we fly, the fact that we hold both PfCO and A2 CofC qualifications and obtain ATC permissions for unusual flights. We are very strict on the regulations we fly by because we realise our films are in the public sector and open to such criticism, but it is quite right to make a challenge. Thank you.

    • @simonalexander8695

      @@tracingtherails PfCO is actually outdated and stopped being issued on 30th December 2020. It was replaced by GVC and OA. Looking at your drone footage especially the flight at the end of episode 3 during the titles I would suggest that you are possibly using a DJI mini 2 or 3 as the change in colour from your main camera to the drone suggests a smaller sensor.
      If you would like support with any aerial footage please reach out to me as I am a holder of GVC/OA and OSC's and run a number of drones from mini to heavy lift. Happy to support you in the any further filming

      @chriskirk4637 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@simonalexander8695 Hi, you have good eyes. We are using a DJI Air 3. Didn't realise the PfCO was outdated now. You actually made me look at the certificate and it is only an annual one anyway, so I am glad I checked. I do hold a current and valid A2 CofC and just renewed it in January funnily enough. Flyer ID: GBR-RP-PCSHGX4JWNVS We like making the series so much, we don't want to take any risks that would get us into hot water. There is a shot in EP3 where we fly directly over the road to capture Stephen and then again we do it while he is on the bridge to get a shot of him, the bridge and the road from above. We took that when the road was closed. We might make the odd mistake, but are probably safer than it appears. Great fun chatting to you about it though, especially as you spotted the colour change in footage ;)
