"O Canada" is the national anthem of Canada. The song was originally commissioned by Lieutenant Governor of Quebec Théodore Robitaille for the 1880 Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day ceremony; Calixa Lavallée composed the music, after which, words were written by the poet and judge Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. The original lyrics were in French; an English translation was published in 1906. Multiple English versions ensued, with Robert Stanley Weir's version in 1908 gaining the most popularity, eventually serving as the basis for the official lyrics enacted by Parliament. Weir's lyrics have been revised three times, most recently when An Act to amend the National Anthem Act was enacted in 2018. The French lyrics remain unaltered. "O Canada" had served as a de facto national anthem since 1939, officially becoming the country's national anthem in 1980 when Canada's National Anthem Act received royal assent and became effective on July 1 as part of that year's Dominion Day celebrations.

This was a well done video. I just want to point out one small mistake. The words "Dominion of" were dropped from Canada's name in 1975. It is simply Canada. No legalistic long form name, period, end of story on that point! Other than that little oversight, a great video! 😊

I find it dumb that the line "In all our sons command" has been changed to "In all of us command". The word "sons" is referring to the veterans fought for our country which were men because, back then, men were the ones out on the battlefield. So the fact that they changed it to "In all of us command" to be gender inclusive is dumb. I highly respect you for using the original lyrics in this video.

LOL you must not know French, the French version is much more religious. In fact, the original lyrics were in French and included: "Le cri vainqueur : "
The current French lyrics states in translation that "great values in our faith will protect our home and rights". Although the English version explicitly states that there is a god, this is clearly a reference to Quebec's Catholicism.
You can't deny that there isn't a god, at least symbolically, to represent justice, a moral standard and a right side of history, which Canada knows it is built upon.
Athiests don't have to reject the notion of these things, they just have to respect the symbolic meaning of it, and while doing this they are still allowed to object to the institutional implementation of it.
