I finally found a great cubano sandwich at NW Sausage and Deli, home of Dicks Brewery! Right here in Centralia Washington! They also make a fantastic pastrami sandwich on rye.
I make both at home, and each is a 3 day process. Not including the 7 days it takes to make the corned beef. And both are tied for 1st place as the greatest sandwiches on God's green earth. I use ATK'S recipes for the pan cubano, and the brazed Boston butt. You can't improve on perfection. The best Cubano I've ever had was in little Havana, in Miami. Set sails out of Titusville for Jamaica on a 50' sailboat, and were boarded by a Cuban patrol. It was amicable. We were not boarded on the return leg. c1980s. Parrot head loggers from southeast Alaska. Cheers.

Tampa created the Cuban sandwich before Miami existed
      Miami was cow pasture
Tampa created the Cuban sandwich in the 1800s
Miami was not founded until 1896 almost 70 years after
The salami is part of the sandwich
Tampa Germans had their own neighborhood and added the pickle, mustard and swiss
      Miami had no German population.......
That's why the Cuban sandwich is a Tampa thing

Exactly. I don't know where all of this "Columbia" love is coming from. First, their Cubans (and the entire menu) is TOP DOLLAR and second...their Cubano is not NEARLY one of the best in Tampa. La Terisita and La Segunda are FAR better and half the price. I loveThe Columbian for special occasions...but for Cubano's!? Nah.

As someone who is born and raised in MIami, currently living in Tampa for the past 2 years and someone who is half cuban...Miami has the better cuban sandwich in my opinion. Doesn't mean Tampa's cuban sandwiches are bad, far from it. They're actually really good, but I feel Miami has the most authentic cuban sandwich.

Tampa was founded in 1823 and was eating Cuban sandwiches when Miami was a cow pasture
Remember miami was founded until 70 years after Tampa
The Cuban sandwich is from Tampa and it's because the Italians Spanish and Germans added to it

@@optimaldefiance4605 pero, what city is closer to Cuba, Tampa or Miami? Yeah it may have started in Tampa technically yes, but I feel like when the Cubans migrated down to Miami, that’s when it went more towards their roots. Like you said, the tampa cuban sandwich was a combination of the Italians, Germans, etc whereas the Miami version is just more tailored to the mainland of Cuba. I still enjoy both versions regardless.

But when the Cuban sandwich was invented Tampa was the closer city because Miami didn't exist........... So Tampa created it and Miami started making it but they didn't have the Italian population like Tampa so the salami came off........
Tampa has a German neighborhood that's why the sandwich has german pickles and mustard, and swiss .......

There are two important things to know about Cuban sandwiches in Tampa (the birthplace of the Cuban in its understood form):
    1. The pork included in the sandwiches in the traditional local restaurants is sliced roast pork (like what is pictured in the footage from the Columbia), not pulled/shredded pork.
    2. Nobody calls it a Cubano. It is a Cuban.

Unfortunately the sandwich businesses that enter the competitions serve sandwiches that they don't make in their businesses. If you want to know about Cuban sandwiches in Tampa, go to Boliche Boulevard. If you can't find it on a map, ask a local.
