  • My neighbor gave me his old junk honda mower. I needed to clean the carb, weld the deck back together, and repaint it. But in the end, we got a pretty good little mower!

    Me personally I would’ve thrown that engine on a solid deck

      Yeah I was thinking of throwing it on a cub cadet deck with swivel wheels but then I would have lost self propulsion so I decided not to.

    I got a Honda mower that was given to me that's in great shape, has the rear bag and everything, it just needed a carb cleaning and it runs great! Great job getting that Honda mower running again.

    Welding tip for thin metal. Weld a quarter inch in one corner than the next and so forth. Better heat dispersion so less chance of blowing holes through

    Pro tip: Wear gloves and safety gear. Trust me, we all know youre not a dork. Wear safety gear. Treat your body like you love and want it

    Great job i found 7 mowers last year after cleaning the carbs they all run during the winter storage you must use gas stabilizer or drain all gas out or run it till it is empty

    Dude, thats a good mower..... I would rather have that mower in exchange to my new toro & honda hrn mowers. Those dam Honda engines are good

    You didn't have a deck with a blown motor you could have put it on?

    Nice! My push mower surges like that, after watching all your videos I might take a stab at pulling the carb off it.

    I'm not a great welder either, I just bought a cheap 90 Amp Flux-core wire welder about a year ago and have been practicing. The weld you did works. The only thing I might have done different was use a flap-disc on the grinder to smooth out the weld a little. Honda engines are good.

      @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks for the advice. I have been practicing on some scrap metal i got for just 5 cents a pound! Yes honda engines are great but they make things a little more complicated than necessary (what with auto choke).

    • @Pyridox
      @Pyridox 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you. A lot of newer mowers come with that automatic choke now, instead of a primer bulb they choke the cold engine.

  • @aegan8329
    @aegan8329 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The carb studs are a pain in the ass on Hondas like that especially the auto choke ones... but when they’re back together, they sure seem to run well.

  • @stan1027

    Are you sure that's the choke lever, and not the throttle? The carb looks like it has an automatic choke, since there is no primer bulb that I could see. Anyway, great job getting it running.

    I wonder just how much a new honda deck would have cost ? Of course it's more work though. I would have also drained the tank because theres possibly crap gas as well as dirt in there.

    That weld made me cringe, but practice makes perfect. Just buy metal plate from a hardware store and practice for a couple hours and watch videos. You will be pretty good after that. That's how I started

  • @tooolboxx
    @tooolboxx 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    At 1:54 you mention that you didn't pay attention to how you took the carb off and might have problems putting it back together. Years ago, before cell phones, we used Polaroid cameras to take pictures of carbs/linkages and other assemblies that might cause a problem putting them back together. Sometimes we would draw quick diagrams of things to aid reassembly. No excuse nowadays; I assume you have a smartphone and can take a quick couple pictures before you tear things apart. You just have to get in the routine of doing it first thing. And... glad to see you started bagging the wheels before painting.

    • @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182
      @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I should take pictures before tearing things apart. I do that with wiring, but not usually with linkages.

    al tuo posto avrei prima smontato il motore,messo la lamiera solo dove serviva,levigato le saldature con una levigatrice/smerigliatrice e solo dopo lo avrei verniciato,e dove c'erano le saldature mettere adesivi originali honda.

      A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 I think that you are underselling your mower because in ct for a mower like that with a ground down weld I could get 300 and for the average toro I get 150-200

    • @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182
      @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jesus you must be in Greenwich or something! People are not at all willing to pay that much for a mower here, $90 tops is what I'll get. I mean you could buy a crappy new mower at $300! Where I am, the income is low but that means taxes are low and used things are cheap!
