I was walking in Naha City one day and after going farther than usual I found a very wide alley and turned down it. There was a Movie Theatre. I approached and read the title of a movie. The Paper Chase. Curiosity overcame me and I DUG OUT 500 Yen and attended the movie. It was like a window into another world. I had never seen people like this before. I loved this movie. I still do.
I can easily imagine Kingsfield as one of the patricians of Boston society. Like he probably taught Dershowitz, a couple of U.S. senators, a sitting and/or former Supreme Court justice, etc. Hence the authority Houseman projects in this masterclass of a performance.
Law school is one big mind game. Many people waste alot of time briefing cases so they don't look like idiots when they are called. Unfortunately, if you waste all your time prepping for class and fail to learn the black letter law you will be screwed when exams roll around.
Yep, I wish someone had told me that. If I had to do it over, I'd take the bar review class the summer before first year. That way I'd have known all the rules cold and could then have a lot more fun with the classroom cases.
When I started law school ages ago I made sure to find out if there were reading assignments posted before the first classes started. It was memories of this movie and terrorizing scene which reminded me to do so (there were posted assignments).
Nice movie. Awesome performance by John Houseman. Law school is nothing like what they portray it in the movie. Most of my professors were approachable, respectful and great teachers.
Langdon and Allston hall hide the assignments. I was totally unprepared for class How should the people who were supposed to post the assignment held according to law?
Hawkins v McGee. ah, my day 2. I told the prof that the kid with the hairy hand should have been grateful for the hairy hand because he could tell hot girls he was related to Ron Jeremy and explain he was hairy and had a huge tool for them. My liberal professor got all offended and said i should sit down.
This is ridiculous Kingsford already knows that Hart didn't read the case yet he's still picking his brain.? College does not work that way? Socratic dialogue went out about 25 hundred years ago.
On my first day as a 1L, my first class was Contracts. My professor literally recited the "fingers" speech before doing the hairy hand case. I might have been the only student who got the reference.
I lived through this terror many years ago. This is a fairly accurate depiction of the first year experience. Nerve-wracking, to say the least.
Once you get over it, you come out with immense confidence that last you till 50 hopefully

woah cool. We read Hawkins v Mcgee in the first week of contracts. I remember that hairy hand case.
Most likely as a result of its mention in this novel and film. :)
RIP John Houseman (September 22, 1902 - October 31, 1988), aged 86
You will be remembered as a legend.
I can easily imagine Kingsfield as one of the patricians of Boston society. Like he probably taught Dershowitz, a couple of U.S. senators, a sitting and/or former Supreme Court justice, etc. Hence the authority Houseman projects in this masterclass of a performance.
He would not scare me one bit
I went to law school nearly 20 years ago and this is the first time I've watched this. It's pretty close to what I remember

Law school doesn't teach you anything.

RIP John Jay Osborne, Jr (1945-2022)
I use this clip and initial part for training faculty members at the universities I work at

It was a different world in the 60s and 70s. If you went to law school during these times then I acquiesce to your experience.
That's because you went to law school in the last several years, not like it used to be when we went.
I'm currently taking Contracts and we were just assigned Hawkins v. McGee, lol, it's cool to see
Forget about any villian or monster that's ever been portrayed. Prof Kingsfield is the most terrifying character ever!!
I will never forget this case in law school. The Socratic method.
Loved that movie!
I remember how my dad described him as the autocratic bastard.
When the movie came out, being an autocratic bastard seemed cool. Now it’s not cool. It’s just an autocratic bastard.
Simply the best! Yo también viví mis años de tormentos y torturas psicológicas cuando fuí universitario.
Ah the pressure of higher education. I still have nightmares and I am now over 60 !
Law school doesn’t look fun….
This case is hilarious tho 😂
A classic indeed!!
Oh to read unaltered books again. A woman can dream.
This is just a movie and I’m scared of Professor Kingsfield.
My contract law prof was a Harvard law grad. I'm sure he had Kingsfield as his drill sargeant.
What's the correct answer to the question?
Why this video is too short , where to watch full
I was terrified of college because I thought this was what it was going to be. I also thought Stripes was a manifesto for life.
Great movie! 😊
I was called on for this case
@pedro freitas....where did you got this movie from.... I want to watch it as a whole movie rather than small clips?
Professor Kingsfield inspired abject terror!
I will NOT stand sir because I have no legs in which to stand!
Love it! 😂
Mr. Hart didn't know the results of Hawkins vs. Magee because he didn't read the case. It cost him his lunch.
We know...
@@melissa9375 You have a keen sense of awareness.
I’ll be going to law school in a couple years. I love the Socratic method.
How is it going so far? Do you still have a skull full of mush?
It's Alfred Hitchcock without the humor 😮
Langdon and Allston hall hide the assignments. I was totally unprepared for class How should the people who were supposed to post the assignment held according to law?
Where am I? HEADS.
Where do I watch this ....!?
Bought the DVD from a seller in Taiwan. Took 2 months to arrive at my place. Was worth it.
Terror em sala de aula.
I thought the first day was supposed to be about whether a contract was formed, not about damages 😡
Never assume anything in his class!
My contracts class began with damages too. Though our professor was admittedly not as scary as Kingsfield!

We would not have been allowed to sit next to each other in 1L. We definitely would not have been called on for DPP v. Camplin.
ejnoy being ruled by a pedo over inthe jolly ole uk @@matthewroazen4476
who's here from mr. Sanchez's class
Houseman was a loser who was jealous of Orson Welles.
This is ridiculous
Kingsford already knows that Hart didn't read the case yet he's still picking his brain.?
College does not work that way?

the point of learning is not learning the facts, that's easy, the point to learn how to think.
He's showing him up.
This is a movie. Not a documentary.
