Correction: he did not make his acting debut in The Paper Chase. He made his debut in Seven Days in May.

Thank you for making this available. Sadly, it is unlikely that we shall ever see the like of John Houseman ever again.

He acted in one of my favorite scenes ever made for television. He played a lawyer who the young John Adams had to appeal to for patronage in The Adams Chronicles.

"Made his film acting debut in the film The Paper Chase." Wow. Kind of shocking they'd done such shoddy research on one of the greatest actors in history. He'd actually made his brilliant film acting debut a decade earlier in perhaps the most brilliant political film ever made "Seven Days In May" as United States Vice Admiral Farley C. Barnswell.

You are technically correct, but the main point is clear. What is astonishing about this 'actor' is how incredibly little acting he did in his first 71 years on the planet. He's got that acting credit for 7 days in May in 1963, and he supposedly did some minor stage work in his youth, but nothing else even gets into his bio until Paperchase. If you find more evidence to the contrary, on this greatest of actors feel free to cite his other screen or theatrical professional credits prior to 1973.
Now that is not to say he is inexperienced. The man produced, directed, wrote and translated screenplays and taught acting for the stage, the big screen, the small screen, and radio for 50 years. He just never got around to doing professionally what he was teaching. Evidently he was a pretty quick study!
