Rock Tumbling Fire Agate: Rough to Polish

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 30 พ.ย. 2023
- I tumbled fire agate on one stage, with 80 grit, for 10 months. I never intended to, but I never thought it would end up like this.
Thank you for your time giving me space to have time, to be a better me in so many ways.
Legit, I love you guys!
Look at the detail of all the comments. All the love for you and what you do. No simple 'great video' or 'good to have you back'. People giving you back a part of themselves like you do with us. Truly great to see you back doing what you enjoy and I hope you continue to find happiness in your adventures through this magical thing we call life.
Man right!? It’s unimaginable if I’m to be honest. I don’t know what it is but I read these comments and feel like they’re talking to or about someone else. It’s strange but I am so so grateful that something I’ve accidentally done right, has connected. It’s made me feel more free to be just me. Thank you Anton brother. I can’t wait to continue posting. I was about to record the voice over tonight for my next video and then got covid. So I can’t cause I’ll sound like a walrus eating custard and trying to talk and that’ll be locked into the video forever haha, but I know that with people that enjoy whatever I end up finding in a video, will be okay to wait only just a little bit longer. I’m genuinely so so lucky man
Those turned absolutely stunning Jesse! They couldn't have been better if you had done them the traditional way of all the stages! They are really so beautiful! And i know the lack of confidence thing that hits after a breakup or a traumatic incident. And it takes a while to come back from that, if ever. Some never recover. But you are loved by so many people, and not just your fans, but your friends, and yes, your fans! We have all been pulling for you! And i for one, one small insignificant person, am totally thrilled to hear that you are coming back to TH-cam! And there are hundreds more just like me, that can't wait to see you again. And its more than the rocks, and more than the hounding, its more than any of that. You were always, one of the good guys! You always have such a big heart, and thats what i always loved about you the most! And you may be nervous, and you may be scared. But you dont have to be. Your fans havent changed. We still love you for exactly who you are, and who you want to be. All i ask is please dont disappear on us again. Just tell us if you dont think you can handle it. Its your life and we are just here to be any part of it that you will let us. Im glad your back! Jesse, Rookie or whoever you want to be. Welcome home!❤
Seriously Largent, stopppppppit! You’re gonna make my face leak 😊
But no honestly, that was such a beautiful message and I can’t tell you how much that means to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶✨✨✨✨✨
Yours is my favorite rockhounding channel. Your voice is so pleasant to my ears. Your background music is the best. Your personality is wonderful. I always look forward to your videos, no matter the time in between, I hope you'll keep 'em coming. Thank you for sharing yourself!❤
It is SUCH a blessing to have you back in all of our lives again. You've been missed! In a world of such turmoil, your videos remind me to slow down, take a break and appreciate the beauty (rocks and gems) the world has to offer through your videos. Much appreciated. -Alex from Oregon
Oh that’s a massive compliment thank you so much Alex, I’m just grateful to have people who enjoy what I enjoy creating 😊
The metaphor you can extrapolate in your personal life from the tumbling of these rocks for as long as they did is a beautiful thing to ponder. May have felt like life was on hold but after a long period of time, grinding through the ups and down, they come out beautiful.
That was quite an amazing psych take on Rook. So on point!
Bro that was what I was hoping people thought and you nailed it. All of it was a happy accident and made so much sense after the fact but I didn’t know how to tell the story quite right. It’s been a video I’ve been wanting to post but haven’t known how to and wanted to come out with a big wizz bang amazing hunt as my first video back but thought this one was fitting. Thank you brother 👊✨🧡
@Rookie_Rockounding you definitely showed that man. From the very start , I was like man this is deep. I know he isn't just talking about these rocks either. It was beautiful to be honest. Glad to see your smiling face! 😃
@@Rookie_Rockounding You da man Rook! Love you brother!
Heck yeah dude. Thank you. Massively! Both of you 🙏
Smashed that notification! Those are stunning Jesse, great to have you back 😊
Aye yesssssss!!!!!!! It’s the first of the monthhhhhhh
So stoked to hear you are on the mend and back to sharing your passion when you can.
Love hearing that joy again in your voice.
Hope you keep travelling well
Dude those came out freaking awesome! My guess is that the 80 grit made a slurry that wore down over time basically moving up through the steps on its own? Maybe?😂 thats one gorgeous happy accident though! Some of those definitely look right for fire! Dude so freaking happy and excited to have you back man! I've been missin muh boi! Cant wait to see your new videos! Much love brother!
Heck yeah muh boiiiii! Also bro, I didn’t get to say it today on the pod, but reach out man. I know you’ve had tough times of late but I genuinely mean it, DM me or call me okay. I’m not a fair weather friend. You’re muh boi 👊
Big big love Theo.
Yay! Totally worth the wait to have you back. I love that those fire agates are such a metaphor for your journey. You needed some time to hide away, needed recharging, but you kept on rolling and came out shining like the true gem you are! So lovely to see your happy face and can't wait for future updates and vids. You are so good Jesse! 😊🎉
Thank you so so muchhhhhhhhh! 🥰
So good to see you back Rookie ❤ holy cow, they turned out pretty good for tumbling for 10 months. Nature is truly amazing, isn't it! I can't wait to see all your other adventures to come they look amazing ☺️💖
Oh man I have you guys I have been away for so long and have kept myself from watching too many rockhounding videos because it made me miss what I wasn’t able to be a part of online but I need to get in and watch some more of our beautiful aussies gettin those gems! Sendin mega love! Thank you! And I really mean that, thank you 😊
Glad you're all right! Thanks for sharing the awesome polished rocks with us! With people too, never underestimate the beauty within, that sometimes a long rough tumble in life alone brings out of us.
Absolutely! We just get a bit of a better of a shine, imperfections and all 😊✨
How beautiful! I hope the parallel here is not lost on you: How these fire agates tumbling, seemingly not being tended to for a long time, still turned out beautiful. It's great to see you back and well! Fantastic video!
Ah, Rookie, it's so good to see your smiling face again, you look great! Your fire agates turned out so cool! Hang in there my friend, sometimes it takes a long time before you can see the light again, but I feel that the clouds are starting to lift for you. Welcome back, I'm looking forward to tagging along with you on many more amazing adventures!
During the doldrums of chemotherapy when I could do basically nothing else but watch TH-cam, I discovered your channel. I’d eagerly await each new vid while going through your back catalogue. Then, you stopped. I started getting better, and I took the rest of the year off and just drove my van around NZ and came to discover the joys of real freedom for myself, but the one thing that really inspired me into the hobby was gone. Now it’s back. I mean, yeah some of the other channels are ok, but I don’t feel anyone else shares the same respect for the river, not the same joy in their finds. I’ve only been to Aussie once, and despite having lots of family there, my main drive I think would be to find some of your candy! Just keep being you bro. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Oh man all of these comments have been so genuinely heart filling. But dude Tristan, this is earthing sorta thing. Like it’s something I never set out to accomplish, or ever thought something I did would be part of someone’s day while going through something as rough and testing as Chemotherapy. I’m humbled to even be noticed during someone’s journey like that.
I am seriously so so sorta speechless but for that I want to say heck yes! Get out there! Get them nature vibes in your bloodstream and I can definitely point you in the exact direction of the candies if and when you get over here mate. Also also, I hope you are on the mend and healing perfectly. I’ve not had chemo or cancer before but I was my fiancé’s carer and attempted to be her protector through her cancer battle 14 years ago and it’s a different world in the depths of it. So I am so damn glad you’re makin a good thing out of a tough thing. Big love mate!
I love the Agats from Australia. Welcome back, I have missed you rockhounding your streams and land. Keep on doing as Katy says.
Oh, it's so good to see you Jesse! Your agates turned out beautifully! It's amazing, isn't it? Rob was one of the first TH-cam channels I subscribed to and it was a lucky choice. My husband and I refer back to his videos a lot, as we think he's the best! I will be happy to see more videos from you, but at the same time, I want to say "No pressure!" You need to do what is best for you. I selfishly want you to continue your channel, just because I think you're a special person who I enjoy listening to. Doesn't have to be rocks. You could do anything. Just drop us a video every now and then to let us know how you are. Take care!
Aw thank you so much hey. Well I will be making videos regularly again with a new one posted on the first of every month. I’ll be doing shorts in between as well. I’m feeling so loved up by everyone’s super kind comments. 😊
Watching this was a wonderful compliment to seeing you on the Rockhound Podcast. I'm sure like many others here in the community, are happy your still around and that your interest in rockhounding still exist. We missed your episodes and adventure's and look forward to see what you present for 2024! Cheers!
Cheers John thank you so much mate! I am so happy to be back!!!!
YES! Rookie’s back!!! I shouted and scared the cat. lol You’re much like those rocks that have been tumbling for months. The barrel of life roughed you up and tumbled you, but in the end you came out more beautiful than you started. Welcome back dear friend. You have been greatly missed.

Jesse, you have a huge rock hounding community behind you that loves and supports you. We will always be here and you are so deserving of the light and love we have to give. So excited to be taken on your future adventures. Much love from Ontario Canada
Oh my goodness I have to go through these comments one by one and only a few at a time or I’ll feel too much love 😊😊😊 thanks you Michelle, thank you for your mega kind words. They hit home exactly right ✨
I am so overwhelmed in the best kind of way by the love and support and goodness from you and others who have taken the time to leave such beautiful comments. Genuinely, thank you. So so much. I am lucky for our paths crossing and yeah, I’m a very lucky dude 😊
So good to see you again. We all go through tough times and the feelings along with that. Glad you are smiling and I am sure there are many others happy to see you as well. Oh, and you are good enough to do this and you put smiles on my face. Hope to see more of your fun videos.
Thank you Jackie 🙏❤️
Welcome back to TH-cam!! Jesse, I have missed your approach to cutting and polishing rocks. I'm an old woman who lives in New Mexico, USA and you INSPIRE me!
I'm so happy your back. Missed you bunches.
Can't wait to see more beautiful rocks from Australia. We love you.
Merry Christmas Jesse❤❤
Yah so glad you are back ! Your one of my favourite people to watch , with your amazing treasures you find and the laughs you guys have . Look forward to seeing your new videos ! :)
Well as I said if you put video up I will watch it. And my jaw dropped so many times, those turned out phenomenal. Well done to you for your patience with tumbling rocks and I am looking forward to your next video's, no pressure. 😍👌👌
Cheers Bryce! Thank you so much 😊
I fully understand how life gets in the way and you lose interest in your passion. It has been a rough 2 years for my family and myself. We lost our parents house to a fire and unfortunately my Mother was inside when it exploded, she passed a month later to complications. Flash forward to Dec 2023 and the house is in its final stage of rebuild and as her only daughter I was given the task of going through all of her surviving belongings. (She was an avid antique collector of furniture, dolls, glass and jewelry) while my Dad and 4 brothers rebuilt the home. To say it has been an emotional rollercoaster for all of us is an understatement. But God has been with us every step of the way. I have missed your posts and enjoyed all of the rock hounding adventures with all your friends. I find them inspiring and relaxing. I have always thought Australia would be a fun place to visit. My rocks have been collecting dust and my tumblers silent. Mayhaps I can get a few in with the new year. Those agate turned out stunning! I look forward to new adventures for you and hope you will take us along on some of them. God bless, from a small town in Oklahoma USA d
Oh god bless you and your dad and brothers for banding together during such a time I could only imagine would be the hardest you’ve experienced as a family unit. And god bless your mother. I bet she’s watching you guys with happy tears in her eyes knowing you all have eachother. Grief is a beast that’s only tamed by time and love from those left around us but also those who still are with us even though we don’t get to see them. Sending so much love to you and yours
Thank you Jesse for taking your time to share your wonder filled perspective. Using what you taught me, I spent 6 hours polishing one huge crazy lace seam agate this weekend - these experiences bring me peace. It may not be perfect but it is amazing! Imperfections lead to uniqueness.
Those turned out so amazing. I'm so glad you are back. I have missed seeing your awesome videos. But we all understood you had to take time to heal yourself. You look amazing as well. Welcome back. So much love.
I am so glad that you are up and running again. May you have smooth sailing from here on out. Your little "tumblers" are gorgeous. I look forward to many more wonderful episodes.🤗👏
So so glad you came back.... You have been missed. I hope your life is a lot happier. 😊
Thank you Marie, it is, it very much is and I’m so glad to be back. I have missed this level of kindness and welcoming support from all of you guys. I am very lucky 😊
So glad to have you back Frookie 🤣❤️. Who knew 🤷♀️ a forgotten tumbling drum full of fire agates could turn out to be so dang pretty ? They look awesome.
Naw! Possum glad to see👀ya back.. can totally relate. We can't save the world & we're our own worst critics! But eventually the lure of the of wild gets us all..back out there hounding for mother nature's trinkets!
Yours certainly rocked on..crikey😅😆 I had visions of transparent slithers that you could make wind chimes out of /or lenses if they went a bit longer!
Phew! they turned out great 😄
Trust us when we tell ya!..most of your stuff😜 is worth coming back for..Wally!😁👍 Cheers🌄
Even though it was an accident. They turned out great! I was trying my hand at tumbling last summer and stopped before the heat wave and haven't picked back up. They are all clean and ready for the next stage. Just no motivation to start back up
Man genuinely I’ve tumbled two batches in 3-4 years. I over think and then when I finally do do a final polish and burnish round, I’m like why don’t I do more? This is awesome! Haha
Thank you for the video. Your journey inspires me and the happy tumbling experiment has kicked my imagination up a notch and a new direction for 5 or 6 pieces of fire agate that I stalled out about a year ago.cheers mate!!
So Glad to have you back. Healing takes time, and with each new day everything is a little better. Can't wait for your next video.
So true Jewell thanks for the kind words!
I'm happy to see you back. Don't apologize for having a mental health issue, we need to be more open about mental health problems so we can overcome them. Far too many people suffer in silence because they believe that it makes them less of a person when the challenges of poor mental health crop up. But as a life long sufferer who did wholeheartedly believe that if people knew I had mental health problems I would be shunned by society because of how the world viewed mental health in my impressionable years as a child, so I suffered greatly in silence, no one being aware of my condition. It wasn't until the past few years where I learned that owning my mental health and identifying it and more importantly sharing the fact that I have been suffering for a very long time and have been acting (like a stage show) the whole time was one of the best things I did for myself. My anxiety levels have dropped and I can more easily identify when I'm having a delusional moment and stop it before things go sideways.
This has been my experience with being open about my mental health.
Welcome back, Jesse! What a pleasure it was to see you in my YT feed! So glad to see you're in better spirits, moving on, and ready to share some more of your life with us. Your kind, honest, and humble self is always welcome in my living room! Those agates are fantastic too! Looking forward to many more awesome videos from you! Get as many shoots in as you can; stricter lockdowns are on their way, and we need some more of your excellent videos to keep us grounded!!! Stay strong, sane, and your sweet self!
It's great to have you back. It's always a good feeling to see someone come back from a rough patch with a smile on their face. Good luck on all future rock hunts dude
I'm so glad to finally have you back, friend. It means a lot to see any video by you. Have a fantastic day
Thank you so much!!!!!
Wow them rock 🔥 😍 so glad your back. I missed you. Looking forward to the next videos xx
Yay! Thank you!
So, so glad you're back, made my day and look forward to more....❤
Thank you so much!!
So so glad to watch this. We have been impatiently patiently waiting for this. Glad you took the time for you. We reeealllly look forward to future videos. Those rocks turned out amazing.
Hahaha! “Impatiently patient” I love that 😊🤣 thanks for being patient and I cannot wait to see what y’all think of the rest of the videos when I get them out 😁
Wow! They look like they are encased in glass. Beautiful. I think the best part of any hobby is learning and watching how much I improve over time. It's like learning to walk, yeah, I'll "fall down" and I'll get frustrated but I'll get back up and try again until I get it down. To me its worth the time and effort if it's something I love doing. Part of the reason I watch your channel is because I love the way you get excited about the rocks you find. It's an enthusiasm that is real.
So glad to see you back! It’s been too long not hearing that somber voice and childlike excitement to finding the beauty that is nature. Hope all is well and cheers to the future!
Oh man thank you Trevor. That’s so rad to read mate. Genuinely 😊
10 months wow, I am impressed they did not just eat away to nothing. I guess once the grit is gone and the rocks were smooth, they really can do anything but bruise. The fact the actually polished to a shine is amazing. Good to see you I hope each day finds you in it's favor.
The fire agates tumble is a great way to start again. It's a great pleasure to watch your videos. Thanks for sharing.
So glad you’re back!!! I’ve missed your videos and of course you-and I understand-your videos and others like it are my escapism from my own head. I hope you understand what I mean. Again welcome back
Naw thanks Tracey 😊🫶✨
It's wonderful to see you and hear your voice, and to know that you are healing. This was like meeting an old friend after a long time apart. The affection never goes away. There is great joy. ❤
Glad your back mate.
They came out absolutely beautiful! I’m so glad you’re coming back. I’ve have enjoyed your videos for a long time. You can do this ! Great video!
“You can do this”! Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
That's really surprising, Jesse. When I tumbled mine for a year, only the rocks in aluminum oxide got polished. The silicon carbide rocks had not polish whatsoever. Did you do a burnish stage, or are those directly out of silicon carbide? Really awesome no matter what happened.
Yeah yeah I know right! i did a burnishing round with pure soap and meant to do it over night but it was on for a week cause I was a bit flat during that time. I reckon it’s probably what I did. Would that do it do you reckon?
I’m trying to get through my old silicone carbide too so then I can get onto aluminium oxide after seeing your videos haha
@@Rookie_Rockounding That's almost surely where the shine came from. I'm glad to know that you didn't get results like that from just silicon carbide grit. I was really confused for a minute there!
Oh I didn’t realise that the soap would do that unless they already have a polish on them but then that makes sense cause they were in there for a week ish in the soap 🤣🤦♂️
I wonder how rough of a rock would polish just with a long burnishing round?
Welcome back my friend!!! Am super happy and thankful to be able to watch another post sir, much appreciated! Been missing your chill energy sharing your joy around beautiful rocks n minerals. You're an amazing and unique person with a ton to offer and hoping you never lose sight of who you are inside! Thanks for the awesome post sir, looking forward to watching them all as a fly on the wall~ Have a great weekend sir!
very happy to see you back. You have a way about you that story telling as part of your personal journey is so very natural. I do hope to see more of your videos going forward but please make sure that you're ready. We will patiently wait.
Thanks heaps Dion, I love the story telling part of creating hey. Thanks for the kind words and the understanding and support my friend!
Hiya Jessie, long time no see, so too speak. Awesome too see your doing well mate. Fire agates are agates, and I can explain it to you. When you start with course grit, after you run it 2 times it turns into, medium grit. And so on, it gets finer and finer and eventually it will polish the stones. I love Fire agates, I have carved them with a dremel, and polished them too, I like to grind and polish the junk that doesn't have any Fire because it's beautiful agates, and I make jewelry out of them. And you would be surprised how many people love them too.
I can't wait to see more videos mate. I hope you have a awesome blessed day mate. Cheers! Cya!
😺🐟 out!
My wife and I watched one of your old videos yesterday and both said we missed you ... i wake up this morning and its like my xmas wish came true early!!!

Just goes to show, when something can be battered for what seems an eternity, can turn out glowing and radiant and better than before. I hope this symbolises your growth over this last year.. i know it hasn't been easy, but you came through the other end and I'm thoroughly looking forward to seeing more of your upcoming rock hounding adventures. I woke up this morning and saw a Rookie Rockhounding new video notification! Happy day! I had to watch a few times, HAHAHA 😁 Dang, Jesse! Those turned out freaking amazing! So gorgeous, like little pieces of candy. I remember Robs video where he let's his rocks go for months, too. I woulda been stunned to open up my barrel to see that. I'm a huge rock tumbler though and no way I could have waited that long 🤣. Thanks for the great video! Cheers, my friend 🙏

Just so you know you are stronger then you know and braver then you think and that is why i love watching your videos not because you are perfect but because you are human just like me. I am so glad you are feeling better and that you are back on i missed seeing you and your videos.
Awwww thank you Chrissie, I love how you phrased that. Thank you for seeing that in me cause it’s hard sometimes for us to see it in ourselves but I tell you what, these comments have been so sweet and so kind and I can’t help but feel lucky to be lifted and supported by such beautiful people.
Glad to see you back. Always fun

So glad to see you posting again. Can’t wait to follow along on your adventures in 2024
So happy to see you again! I've missed you! The fire agates turned out stunning!
Great to see you back!!!! Great job man!!!!!!
Oh man - so glad to see you online again. You really helped me get back into this exploring creeks and looking for beauty in nature again after too many years away. I suspect that grit broke down and the rocks (and media) tumbled against each other, then that final burnish helped a bit at the end. So interesting and happy ending there with those agates. And here you are, too, all cool looking yourself!❤. 🎉
Missed you, buddy!
Looking forward to seeing your upcoming videos - do what you love and love what you do (when you want to)
They turned out amazing!! Thank you for sharing
Fantastic to see you back, happy and playing with rocks. 😊
So good to see you back missed you ❤😊🙏
Great to have you back man. You seem like you’re doing well, good on ya!
Cheers!
I'm glad to see you back! Thoughts and prayers are being sent to help you going forward! These turned out awesome! Can't wait for more videos! Thanks for sharing!
Looking great sir! Both the agates and yourself! So good to see and hear you again!
Nice to see you back and enjoying what you are doing. 🍻
Those pieces of fire like fire. We all go through rough patches but we all need time to shine haha 😉
So good to see you. Welcome back. Glad you are doing what you need to to be your best. To me your videos are the best. Looking forward to virtually rockhounding with you again!
Wow. They came out so beautiful!
