- Next up is the Remington Model 121 Fieldmaster (c.1947) made from 1936 to 1954 to upgrade the iconic John Pedersen designed Remington Model 12 which had been going strong since 1909. This rifle is a .22 S/L/LR chambered pump/slide action tube magazine fed repeater that was purchased as a non-functional "gunsmith special" from a LGS and sat for a number of years on my back burner as it would not feed from the magazine correctly and my few attempts to fix it were unsuccessful.
Brought out for a short form video to just feature it quickly "as is" turned into a fascinating exploration into its refinement designers C. C. Loomis and G. H. Harrison and the patents they have for the changes they made which led to a deeper understanding of exactly what was causing the rifle to malfunction.
Come along with me here in the Milsurp Garage as we explore those patents and take a real close look at this fine rifle.

I grew up with my Dad's model 121 and LOVED IT! Wish I still had it. It had the double locking screws.
Get on gunbroker and find one.....they are out there, double locking screws and all. Make sure it has all those screws....they were easily lost. Think of all the fun it would bring.
ugh- why do you keep sharing these awesome classics??? You make me want to buy every old gun I see LOL. There are a couple really sweet, nice condition vintage pumps at my cabela's but they're all over 6 bills, some over 11 bills (One is an octagonal barrel in 22 short I believe) and I just can't bring myself to buy them... That's why i bought the model 35 Sears pump action rifle. I could afford it :)
I bought this rifle for $40.
@@MilsurpGarage duuuuuude!!! What??? I never find deals like that.
@@MilsurpGaragethat’s a bargain
Millsurp Garage, I sold my Remington model 17 just last year, that is a super sweetheart of a shotgun, feather lite about 5.5 pounds. In full choke , raised rib 26” barrel . Yes, you really need one to try on the trap range.👍👍👍🇺🇸✌🏻🙏🏽
Yeah, just never really shoot well with 20ga. We will see, I have the Ithaca in 12 ga, full choke 30’’ that has shot a few 25’s for me. Might just stick with that.
@@MilsurpGarage My biggest problem is I could never score higher than 10-12 out of 25. Didn’t matter what shotgun, gauge or choke but, take me hunting and it a whole different story. Hope you acquire the 17 but it is really light for swinging in my mind. Good luck getting one.👍✌🏻🇺🇸🙏🏽😎
Pump action 22’s is one of my favorite genres
Oooh Yes Buddy Another Remington Pump Action 22 Rifle and A Long Video Too Love it 😀😎😊👍🏼
Love the work sir. Can't wait until fix video
Same time as the notification for this comment came in, so did the notification that the part was in my mailbox. See you soon!
Awesome video as always. The 121 was such a well built .22 pump. Beautiful milled receiver. Much different from the later 572 Fieldmaster. A great gun in its own right. But not nearly as elegant as the 121.
I got a line on a 552 Speedmaster but the price might not be right.
@@MilsurpGarage The 552 is one of my favorite rifles.
Now I have watched it to the end and I also had a Remington 51 . I was stolen from my house . Mine has UMC stamped on the trigger guard. I’m sure my son sold it for drug money or a IOU . This was back in the 1980’s. Waiting to see the 121 fixed.👍🇺🇸✌🏻
The 121 Fix video will drop Sunday morning! Was the part correct for the gun? Was it a successful fix? Tune in and find out!!
@@MilsurpGarage You know I will be watching closely.👍🇺🇸✌🏻🙏🏽😎
Picked up one of these a few years ago in really nice condition. Think it was made 1949 if I remember right.
Did you ever do a video with it Shep?
@@MilsurpGarage Yes. Clear back in 12-19-2020.
Another coming up next month 8-13-2024.
Something we are allowed have here in Australia thankfully, pump action rimfire and centrefire rifles are allowed on a basic A+B licence . Sadly not allowed pump shotguns though unless you're a professional contract shooter or primary producer.
Allowed thankfully? People, pay attention. Without the constitution you have to be THANKFUL to be ALLOWED to have a pump action rimfire rifle.
VOTE like your life as you know it is at stake…..because it is.
Hopefully, you opened up some eyes, my fine Australian friend. Thank you.
One of my LGS has a few of those
But at the moment I’m preoccupied with the Ruger 50th anniversary BlackHawk .44 magnum I have on layaway
Nice!
Alot of the "Takedown Screw's" on Rifles were made for a Coin,a Nickle,Dime or Penny to be used and doesn't mar the Finnish!
Yes, a lot do fit coins but when you step up to a screwdriver set made for gunsmithing you would never use a rudimentary tool again.
@@MilsurpGarage for the range it works no marring! Yes You are correct Sir ,Thank You for what you Bring and the Attention to what I Love in Firearms MilsurpGarage!
I think I own 5 great guns!😂
