  • Donkey Kong Country Returns HD was announced during the 6.18.2024 Nintendo Direct and I think it suggest even more remasters that could come to Nintendo Switch as we transition over to the next generation with Nintendo Switch 2.

      Genuinely those two, Metroid Prime 2 and 3 at a September Direct hopefully as a shadow drop and maybe even F-Zero GX soon enough! Even if it isn't a new entry, they need to ease people in again! Old and new :))

      There is no need for it there are already plenty of Zelda games on the Nintendo Switch.
      Believe it it's way better on Switch 2 with 60+ frames + 4k upscaling in TV mode. This would be the definitive edition to play. I would 1000% prefer this than 720p resolution with 30 FPS on the default Switch. + Not a single Star Fox game is on Switch but like 10 Zelda games... It's enough tbh I'm bored of it.

    After rewatching your video on Remakes vs. remasters, I think that if Star Fox Assault gets a remaster it should be more of the Xenoblade definitive addition. An HD remaster isn't really appealing as I do think that the game should get polished in some spots with its controls, the modals be improved and cutscenes redone. In addition Added content would be nice to have to add more stuff to do.
    I've recently gone back to replay it and I've came to an interesting realization that Star Fox Assault might actually be the first game to follow modern Nintendo's "Freedom" philosophy generations before the switch. Its not open world but it offers big sandbox areas with tasks that can be handled in anyway the player wants. Want to do everything on foot? Do it. Want to take out all of the visible hatchers quickly with the Arwing? Nothings stopping you. What use the Landmaster to save the team mate? Its right there. The mechanic of the game even fits with the Nintendo Switch, you can "switch" to which ever play style you want on the fly to complete the mission. All of this to say that it should get the Bowsers Fury treatment. Not a full blown open system or anything but maybe an open planet or recreate the SF 2 gameplay but with modern tech.
    The total run time is 5 and a halve hours with no branching paths to replay. It would help if the game had bonus content of some kind. Either using the other multiplayer maps or creating new maps with different objectives. It should have as many levels as the main campaign or a little less. Story ideas could be us playing as the OG Star Fox team during the first encounter with the aparoids as mentioned in the second briefing in the game. This could connect certain plot points from the main campaign such as how Peppy and Pigma knowing about the Aparoids when everyone else didn't. Another option is us following characters like Katt and Bill as they were absent from the main campaign. Or even a Star Wolf side story that lets us know what they were doing when they were off screen.

    my hope for the Switch 2 launch is that they give it a lineup of all Nintendo’s B&C-team IPs… so instead of _Mario_ and _Zelda,_ we get _Metroid_ and _Donkey Kong, _StarFox_ and _F-Zero,_ etc…

    • @kurokamina8429
      @kurokamina8429 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Honestly it might turn out that way when you look at was shown in the direct and what we recently got. We aren't going to get another big open world 3d zelda because TOTK came out not too long ago and wouldn't have the time to make another big one for the switch 2. Donkey Kong Country returns HD possibly being used to get us ready for a brand new one on the switch 2. F Zero 99 happening to test the waters to see where people currently stand on the series? Its gotta lead to something. Metroid Prime 4 being a cross gen launch title just seems obvious at this point.
      New Star Fox trade marks popping up left and right possibly leading to a new game on the switch 2 which might actually make a lot more sense then getting a new one on the switch period. There really wasn't much of a difference between the switch and the Wii U and its hardware features wouldn't be good to try and create a new game. But the Switch 2 with its power being equal to an Xbox series S and other new stuff? Maybe its finally time for Star Fox to get a new game.
      Honestly when I look at it all now, they are probably the best IP options to show the graphical power of the next system. Metroid Prime and F Zero are arguable two of the most realistic IPs nintendo owns so using them makes a lot of sense. Star Fox coming back to possible take advantage of a new feature of the system (hopefully not) and possible another good game to show how good the system is (like star fox assault did).
      Donkey Kong is there to be a heavy hitter to make up for no open world Zelda and ultimatly there will be a new 3d Mario. Its just an inevitable thing and I'll accept it as long as Star Fox and F Zero makes a return.

      @@kurokamina8429 - that all sounds amazing… I’ve just never been a fan of the _Mario_ universe… just a bunch of mushrooms and blocks and pipes? unless they have _Odyssey 2_ waiting in the wings, I think a big new semi-open Donkey Kong game would be a big hit, with beautifully rendered jungles and ruined temples and all that 👌
      a third _DKC Returns_ game would be great, too… but you’d think they’d have made it by now, with _Tropical Freeze_ being a decade old at this point, and Retro busy with _MP4._

    What I think Nintendo is going to do is that once Switch 2 is nearly out, Nintendo is going to release remastered games for Switch 1 for up to three years. Switch 2 I think is going to be backwards compatible, so these remastered games will sell to both those that have upgraded and those still on the original Switch.
    Switch has a huge install base, and it’s going to take quite a long time for Switch 2 to reach anywhere near that level, they won’t completely abandon Switch.

    Vote with your wallet… it’s an answer I find issue with because for all my not spending money on a port of a port like DKCR HD, because while sure, I’m not gonna buy it, many will and therefore tell Nintendo that it’s alright to not have to justify the 60 dollar price point to the entirety of its fan base. Our, the fans who have played the previous versions of this game, voices will effectively always be muted and be given nothing to justify 60 bucks. And for those who say this game is not being made for everyone, that’s ridiculous, why alienate a chunk of your fan base like that? People who have played older versions of this game want to be able to have fun with a port, but without new content or considerable reworking to justify the 60 dollar price tag, then what’s the point?

    • @therealjaystone2344
      @therealjaystone2344 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    • @phantasmalwolf2996
      @phantasmalwolf2996 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@therealjaystone2344 I think that’s some of the problem is that Nintendo relies on this fact that fans will gobble it up anyway. And so they toe the line and see how much they can get away with charging for a low effort port like DKCR HD. I just wish more people could see that when history shows what a game’s been valued as, and that value is like 2 or 3 times lower than the cost of the port for the same amount of content, that they are being ripped off and their wallets are being exploited because they didn’t play the previous versions. I mean anytime I see one of these people argue why shouldn’t I pay full price, I go, why would you actually want to pay it? The game’s value and worth are clear based on previous versions and the amount of content they had. Why argue for that when you could argue for potentially having the game at a lower cost and keep more of your money? is that just the fan of Nintendo in them for being so willing to justify 60 bucks for a port of a port?

    • @phantasmalwolf2996
      @phantasmalwolf2996 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@therealjaystone2344 and I think Nintendo is counting on the very fact that this is the consumer mentality when they go and pull stunts like this. I mean history shows Nintendo thought the game, when it was a Nintendo Selects title, to be worth 20 bucks, and for the exact same amount of content which is being advertised with this DKCR HD. And when you have this knowledge, I fail to see how I or anyone else should accept paying full price on content Nintendo themselves thought once upon a time was only worth 20. And at that, all you’re getting is slightly uprezzed graphics and improved performance. That in no reality makes me think that if that’s all there is, I’m okay paying full price for it. Its simply scuzzy practice to exploit fans who hadn’t owned the previous versions of said game and take advantage of them being okay with paying full price when it’s not even worth that, whether you see it as a new game or not.

    The way I see things playing out for Nintendo with regards to Donkey Kong is that I think they're satisfied with Donkey Kong Country Returns HD releasing next year on the current version of the Switch and then release Metroid Prime 4: Beyond as a cross-gen title to help promote sales of their new console. Afterward, I predict we will start hearing reports about Retro Studios working on a new 3D Donkey Kong game because there will no longer be any other games that take priority over that

    and honestly, I’d be happy to pay $70 or more for something like _TOTK,_ but I really wish they wouldn’t charge more than $40 for remasters of anything older than Wuu, and $50 for Wuu ports. and even things like _Metroid: Dread_ should’ve been priced lower than $60… probably _Echoes of Wisdom,_ too.
