I am a dude with a $6 can of spray paint who wanted to paint his rifle without spending three hours on prep. I have painted ten or so rifles. Outside of making sure the paint will not get in the action, trigger, barrel or optics its not worth getting crazy with detail prep because the paint is going to wear off anyway. Makes no sense to me to do a cerakote type prep on a bomber can paint job. If someone wants to detail strip their rifle and prep every little thing more power to them.

nice job - I did a very similar prep and camo paint job on one of my Stag AR rifles...like you say the paint is going to wear off over time anyhow so why not do it fast n easy and go have fun w/your cool looking rifle. thumbs up

Hum I may want to do something simliar someday. but I think I'd take off (assuming I can. I haven't gotten this firearm yet. On my list) the cheek raiser and the extendable back end bits and leave those black.. So the "outliers" of the firearm are coded colour

+Spencer Holbert $32 is the price for a case of six cans. I bought mine from DSG Arms for $6.06 a can. Spray paint cans are an ORMD shipping item so there is a hazmat fee. To spread the cost out I bought a bunch of Aervo orange marking paint they had for $1 a can to paint steel targets with.
How did you do the safety? I would think that in the fire position it is ok, but on safety, it would show some black.... is that right? Looks good nonetheless. I am getting ready to paint some, but I get paint gun shy.
Ok so at this point I've watched your video 7 times and I've ordered the same paint. Looking forward to it. However I have a question on how you prepped the rpr for the paint. I can see you used lacquer thinner for the prs but what about the rest of the gun? Break cleaner, acetone etc??
Looks good. I'll be doing mine tomorrow. Did you have any jamming type issues with the safety switch and the stock adjustments after you painted it? I'm going to put 1 coat of primer on first and paint it with the matte sand coloured Rustoleum camouflage paint. Did you go back over the safety switch area in the fire position to cover the missing paint from when it was in the safe position? Also with the stock did you adjust it in different positions after it dried and fill in the spots that were missing paint? Thanks for the video 🙂

+theBasicswithBlaze Same way as the RPR I just used stuff like straw/ plants as a mask with the different colors. Just hold it close to the gun and spray over it.
+TAC TICAL No issues. I do prefer rings to QD mounts when I don't want or need the ability to swap scopes quickly. On a precision rifle I think rings remove the variable of the QD mount and thats a good thing for me.
+Real Shooter What height ? 1.45' AR or the 1.26" extra high. Just snatched up a Burris XTR II 34mm tube off the Hide & with shade on I'm worried about dragging the bell on the handguard pic rail or screwing up my cheekwell. I guess I could machine off the handguard pic rail and paint it. any insight would be appreciated.
What pisto grip did you end up with at the end? I saw you had a Magpul MIAD on it early in the video but i could identify the final one. and why did you choose that on in blk vs the FDE MIAD you had originally?
+nicholas brunori I've tried all kinds and have settled on the BCM Gunfighter grip because its more vertical than the magpuls. I had the miad on just to paint but put an A2 grip on instead so I could just keep the factory fde color on the miad in case I want to use it on something else. I always planned to go with black grip and accessories. I was going for kind of a Barrett MRAD look.

Thanks for watching. I like the XRS. It does get a little fuzzy/muddy/not as clear on the very high end. For the price point and the features you get I think its a good value. The G2 reticle is one of the best available IMO. The XRS/ERS are older designs now but for what they sell for used I think they still have a place.
+Real Shooter I'd be very interested in seeing pictures/video of the RPR buttstock on an AR platform. I was able to find someone who wanted tog et rid of theirs and hope to use it on an LR308.
+Franklin C I'm not sure it would work on an AR 10 because the RPR tube is an AR15 carbine length tube. I think most AR10s use a longer length tube for the longer travel of a .308 bolt. It may be possible to mount the RPR stock on a AR10 tube but I don't know for sure either way.
+Real Shooter Thinking about it I guess its possible AR10's could use a shorter buffer in a carbine length tube. I really dont know. Haven't fooled around with swapping stocks on too many .308 gas guns.
+todd doughty Very easy. Same as installing it on an AR. Just remove the factory stock and tube, screw in a rifle length tube to the RPR folding mech, slide the PRS on and secure it to the tube with the screw in the back of the stock.
+ejhutton2003 I like all of the XRS, ERS and DMR models with the G2 reticles. I think they provide a nice middle ground when it comes to features, quality and price. The glass is not as good as the real high end stuff but the price isnt as high either. The G2DMR reticle is my favorite of all I have tried. I have a Vortex 4.5-27 Gen II Razor on another rifle and do like it better than the XRS but it also costs about $1000 more.

I dont think i'll ever understand the love for the PRS. Its heavy as hell, barely adjustable, made for rifles that dont really need a riser... its just an answer to a question that doesnt exist
+EnterTheFenix For me I can't get a solid cheek weld on an AR type rifle without a high cheek rest. PRS does that along with LOP adjustment. Judging by the number I see on precision AR builds I'm not the only one.
Oh I know im the minority. I just prefer to eliminate the cost and weight of the PRS with slightly lower rings ( if necessary - I dont generally have an issue with optic height on an AR though.. so im approaching it from that angle )

I just wiped it down with acetone and a rag to get any grease or oil off.

+Troy Montville AR15 version. The cheek riser is a little longer on the AR version. My guess is the AR 10 would work just as well.
