This is good, but without power usage numbers is not accurate. Keep in mind 4080 has 40 to 80 watts less than 7900XTX and over 150watt more efficient than 4090. So cost per frame figures will be actually in 4080 favour when electricity cost is added . Here in UK it matters a lot when el prices have risen drastically.

Really glad to see both DF and GN provide that kind of coverage, it's so much more useful than simply looking at framerate numbers and graphs and probably a more objective way of looking a gpu value

That's still $300 bucks over the 3080 launch price. And 3080s currently cost about $800 bucks at Newegg at the cheapest. So it's less a question of "is the price cut enough for gamers" but "is a $200-$300 price increase for the next generation worth it?"

The pathtracing comparison really shows how far AMD is behind when it comes to proper RT/PT performance. Even if FSR3 was in the game, that implies it'd only hit about 50 fps, and it'd be way too sluggish because the normal FPS was below 30.
I hope AMD actually tries to compete when it comes to AI and RT soon, because so far it's been relatively disappointing. We desperately need that competition!

You may as well quit PC gaming for good then--im serious. If you think Nvidia will ever drop prices to that level again, you are ignoring reality and living in fantasy. Nvidia has overcharged for these cards and everyone has bought them, the 4080 Super is sold out everywhere and the 4090 is so popular it's still selling for 2x it's price.
Face it, the reasonable prices you want are gone for good. Nvidia will not reduce inflated prices when people are still buying them like hot cakes. And since people will continue to buy them, the price will only keep increasing.
As such, if you truly refuse to pay anything more than old outdated pricing, you should just quit pc gaming and switch to consoles where your price range will stay much more sane and stable

@@KrazzeeKane Yeah I know, sadly haha. This comment was kinda sarcastic, I was just venting and trying to help (at my small scale) new people understand that these are not "normal prices" (other types of components have NOT increased their prices this much).

This has become the absolute high end sweet spot overall - I would choose it over a 7900 due to DLSS3 and FG any day.
Not to mention G-Sync works so much better with Nvidia's front end implementation vs Freesync.
So I am glad I waited to build my desktop as this is the card I will get, mated with the 14700KS.
Just choosing a cooler and motherboard which has been a daunting decision. So many options.
Edit, just to put it in perspective, my up coming rig has a 1500VA UPS and an 1000 watt Gold PSU, with 14700K and 4080s when I find one in Australia, the GPU is what I am waiting for now.. But I am a 1440P gamer on a 1440P OLED Adaptive Sync display. I'd have to get a better UPS and spend a thousand bucks more to get a 4090 not to mention the extra power draw, so my comment is mostly aimed for 1440P ultra gaming for now and the foreseeable future.
For 4K , even with DLSS, the 4090 is a much better bet, but I will reevaluate all this in a couple years.

If it wasn't for the heavy community backlash after DF's 4070Ti video, Digital Foundry would still be happy to shill Nvidia products. Remember, that was the video in which Rich said "it costs more, but it delivers more", the kind of psychopatic gaslighting that Jensen (Nvidia CEO) likes to say: "the more you buy, the more you save". So, yeah, at least this 4080 Super review has some connection with reality, but $1000 MSRP is still ridiculously overpriced. Even with inflation calculated in, this should have never been more than a $750 card (only $800 if it had more VRAM).

  • @christianmino3753
    @christianmino3753 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Anyone complaining about the price of the 4080(super) I GET YA, I'm also not about to blow $1000+ on a GPU (which is fine because between the 6700XT all the way through the 4070ti super, we have some GREAT 1440p-4k GPUs at GREAT prices right now) but with that being said, How much VRAM did the 3080 have? How much does it cost to use the same VRAM, but tuned to a higher speed? How big is the cooler on the 3080 in comparison to a 4080? How much lower of a quality was the silicon used in the 3080 as opposed to the 4080? Speaking of silicon, how much is the going price for higher quality silicon than in the days of the prior 80 series cards? On top of all of that (and more that I can't think of ATM) we have inflation.
Do I think $1000 is too much? Yes, but I'm also not an expert on GPUs and while I believe the price increase is justified to a degree, I don't know how much of a degree, but I DO know that somewhat of a price increase is justified for sure. The products cost more to manufacture than they used to.
That being said, I wasn't actively paying attention to the MSRP of graphics cards during the pandemic, as I've always been a used hardware kind of guy. I just got a 3080 for $300 because it has a custom AIO cooling solution and nobody else wanted it. I jumped on that to replace an alienware RX 6800XT I had that started to die (which was my fault for buying an alienware version of that card that is basically a glorified reference card with the same exact PCB and probably an inferior cooler on it to try and save a few bucks)
It also seems like a major jump in performance, going from the 3080 to the 4080, but so was the 2080 to the 3080. I know that firsthand because I upgraded from a 2080 super (also with an AIO lol this one was the "EVGA 2080 super hybrid" and not a custom job like my 3080) to the 6800XT (which is pretty much the same as a 3080 in average frame rate) and then to the 3080 a few months later after the 6800xt started artifacting and overheating, and before that I had a 1080 (non ti) and the jump from the 1080 to the 2080 super was extremely lackluster, so lackluster in fact that I was wishing I had gone with a 1080ti instead of a 2080 super (same performance, but the 2080 super has less VRAM) and then I came into a 1440p display and that's what caused me to keep GPU hopping as the 8GB VRAM just wasn't enough, and I wanted something that was all around powerful, not just extra VRAM as I pretty much exclusively play AAA games, and I'm a sucker for higher frame rates than usual in those games. For example, I like to play RDR2 at 100+ FPS 1440p for no reason when 60 fps would absolutely suffice, and I use a controller so while nonsensical, I just like higher frame rates, but I'm not a snob (unless your someone who considers someone who will not play at frame rates below 45 a snob) and will absolutely play at 60 FPS, or even 45 FPS If I have to. Never 30 though, as I would rather just not play the game at that point.

And then AMD launched 900 series products this gen and they only competed with Nvidia's 80 series products this time around. What an all-around mess.
Still, I say this as a happy 7900xtx owner - I'd pay the extra $50-$70 for a 4080 Super for the extra RT performance and DLSS, if I was in the market for a high-end GPU at the moment. AMD needs to knock the price of the XTX down to $850+$900 unless they want sales to flatline.

      In Australia it's a bit better. I bought a 4080 for $1550 AUD

wake me up when prices really drop and they releasae something truly new, and not the same performance for the same price. prices are faaaar too high across all GPU's these days.
pure black looks like pure cheap plastic lol

In my country 4080 super cost 400 usd more than regular one 😂

Really like those comparisons to PS5, showing exactly what one gets for paying more for hardware. Three times the performance is pretty good, although I would still like to see the 4080S at around 200 bucks less than it is.

I don't trust DF reviews for graphics cards. This is a guy that thought the 4070 Ti was good value for money and deservedly got torn apart for it. 🤣

If you asked me to summarise that Video I wouldn't be able to as it just degenerates into a sea of almost identical names and numbers to me.
Just buy the best card you can afford seems like the best bet to me.

The EU MSRP of 1000€ is nowhere to be found. I see cards for 1150€ +. The same as the old 4080 was being sold in Germany before they were discontinued.
They removed the old stock where cores were 100% functional and resold them for the same money?

  • @nimbulan2020
    @nimbulan2020 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

It definitely is still a steep price. It should perform more like what would be a 4080 Ti if it existed, and cost no more than $900 at that performance level (inflation/cost adjusted from the 3080's $700 MSRP.)

Since i always keep my GPU budget to 300$ MAX, i fear than the day will come when i could only buy a five year old, 2nd hand, entry level gpu as an upgrade.
Or go back to integrated graphic CPU for the PC to work and a console for games... Like it's 2006 all over again

The best 40 series card out of the bunch should not be performing 50% more powerful. I never knew the 4090 had that much more power. That is a monumental jump in performance. So, basically what you're saying is if I bought a 4060, then buy a 4090, it's like upgrading from a Honda Civic to a Ferrari? Holy crap! The 4090 should only be like $200 more at the max, compared to their other cards. I don't understand Nvidia's pricing structure. I'll wait for their 50 series cards. I'm doing fine playing games using a 3070 on my LG C1 OLED with it's maximum refresh rate of 120hz. I am playing Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth on Ultra Performance Mode and it's running at 120fps, and it still looks absolutely gorgeous. It's enough for me. I don't need 8K or 300fps right now. There are very few games that run at those resolutions and speeds that justify an upgrade. Until my LG TV dies, I'm ok with 120hz.

And the best part? It's only $599

I still can't get over how huge these cards are. I exclusively use laptops and a previous laptop had a mobile GTX 1070 which is basically exactly as powerful as the desktop 1070 but that one is almost as big as the entire laptop 😂

The games aren't worth the upgrade now. In reality an 80-class card is a $500 card. No amount of DLSS or Frame Generation is worth more than $50 in addition to the actual hardware.

the specs don't make much sense at 1080p ultra i assume the fps would be slightly better than 4080 because of its core clock. the cuda core increase isnt meaningful enough to make much of a difference and the memory bandwidth is marginal. if you configure it based on what causes that particular card to perform better you should see a slight difference between 4080 and 4080 super at lower resolutions.

the super basically costs the same as the 4080 here in europe, so it really doesnt matter here. kinda disapointed but ive waited long enough, now just gotta find it on stock somewhere. the good models are all instantly sold out, looks like scalpers idk, maybe im just slow
