The Sacred Meaning of China's Altar of Heaven

  • This feature-length documentary explores the first religion of China that existed before Daoism, Confucianism and Buddhism. The Altar of Heaven complex in Beijing, also known as Tian Tan, is the third most visited tourist site in China. Yet, very few in China understand that it was the place where the Emperor sacrificed and interceded for his people with the Supreme God who created all things. This most-high God is known as Shang Di, and Chinese history tells us that the imperial sacrifices to Shang Di go all the way back to the third millennium BCE. Can it be that the supreme God of China, who was worshiped by the Chinese people throughout most of their history, is the same Creator God of Judaism and of Christianity?

I am an American professor of economics. I was in China 12 years. Every Chinese I knew be lived in a spiritual world. All the ones I knew believed in the idea of a higher power, greater than humans. Belonging to a specific religion is good for some people and not for others. I think it is important to care about loving other people.

the most remarkable thing is that
      this ritual owes nothing to
      Confucianism, Taoism or Buddhism,

How can we know when someone is behind us without looking back?
We don’t have six sense. It is devil and demons who speak to us and we think it’s six sense or it’s our feeling and emotion or uncontrollable thinking…
We are not sick or crazy… it is devil and demons who cause those in us and we think we are sick because we have no control, over those harmful thinking, imagination, feeling, and emotion…
They are not our thinking, feeling, and imagination
They are devil and demons making you think you are bad and harmful and they make you think that they are your thinking, feeling, and emotion and you are bad and they want to cause you to sin so they can destroy you in jail and prison…
They work in ways that if you think there is a supernatural world… you are a crazy person… they are powerful but they ain’t smart…
If they are smart they would know to stop winning and they wouldn’t intentionally sin since the beginning…
They are dumb but with power so they can destroy so you easily…
They can see you, they can see you straight through, they can see and they know your thinking, feeling, emotion, and so on…
Basically they can you as if you are so clear to them and you are clearer than crystal clear water to them.. while you can;t see them and they gang on you and set you up and control you and so much more…
Leave and left it all to god..

Did you know the emperor of China at this time also functioned as the high priest? He has to sacrifice an ox at the Temple of Heaven.
If his sacrifice is accepted, the entire nation enjoys blessings. Not much different from the function of the high priest in the Old Testament.
Christ is both a King AND a High Priest. Is there no correlation to this dual function of the emperor mirroring this Biblical model?
Also really interesting is the application of red paper on the lintel and posts of doors and openings in houses during Chinese New Year. Isn't that a "corrupted form" of applying the Passover blood over the lintel and posts? The Passover happened just before the Israelite crossed over the Red Sea. Chinese people "cross over" to the New Year in similar way.
Too many clues of Chinese distant past, worshiping a Judeo-Christian God.

@@julie9541 I could give you one more mind blower if you don't know already about it. God has written His holy name in our DNA.
Our DNA-strain is made up of 4 nucleid acids - Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine and Thymine. The so-called sulfuric bridge connects those 4 acids. This bridge appears in every single human out there in a scheme of 10-5-6-5. Meaning after 10 acids the sulfuric bridge appears, then after 5 acids, then after 6 and then after 5. This is a "rhythm" which always continues.
This scientific fact can be related to the Hebrew alphabet. Every Hebrew letter has a numeric value, for example the first letter of the alphabet א ("aleph") has a numeric value of 1 or the last letter ת ("tav") has a value of 400.
Now if you take the 10 from before you get a י
      From the 5 you get a ה‎
      From the 6 you get a ו
      From the 5 you get a ה
‎This results into יהו ה which is YHWH, the name of God in the Bible.

The border sacrifice. The border is the boundary between Heaven and Earth, to the One God, the Father of Heaven and Earth... the Oatriarch of your spirit to mirror a father of your body. The 3rd level of heaven... that room was made "almost" perfect, not to be a replacement for heaven. They were also taught a sacred creation story on a board there that is now gone. The bull sacrifice represented the great sacrifice of the one connection... Jesua. But they pray to the Father.... through the Son, not both.

@@tuvoca825 "Our Father in Heaven" is how the Lord himself taught prayer to be done. The Trinitarian theology of adding "Jesus" and "Holy Spirit" is only something done in Christendom, in Western and Eastern Roman theology, that I would challenge as false religion, man made, a state government religion, that quite literally executed Apostles, and used their bones as "sacred relics" on public display in he earliest basilicas in Asia Minor, Constantinople, and the Eastern Roman Empire.
There are formulaic prayers in Rites of Zhou etc however I have not studied this area deep enough to thoroughly understand these archaic old prayers.
What I do know is that the concept of "Jesus" while not named as such is addressed by various titles synonymous to biblical ones, particularly those of the PERSON of God/Yahweh, like the "image of a man" or the anonymous "angel" that appears in various parts of Scripture. e.g. Nebuchadezzar's furnace, the angel in the field who changed Jacob's fate forever, the "man" who wrestled with Jacob on the hill at Peniel, the "angel of the Lord" seen by Manoah and his wife in Judges 13 who they later realised/suspected was "God" himself.
These are some of the titles for the Lord Jesus Christ that I have identified in the Chinese Classics:
⁃ 養生主 Zhuangzi, Joeng Sang Zyu - "Nourishing the Lord of Life
      - 萬歲爺 Maan Seoi Je - "Lord of Ten Thousand Years"
      - 天君 Tiānjūn, Tian Gwan -the "Prince of Heaven" or "Lord of Heaven"
      - 天尊 Tiānzūn, Tian Zeon -the "Heavenly Venerable"
      - 君世主 Gwan Sai Zyu -"Sovereign Lord (of the) World" (Song History) or "Monarch of the World"
      - 天德王 Tin Dak Wong -"Heaven Ethics-morality-virtue King" (Song History)

To all the nay-sayers... Take a look at any of the many TH-cam videos which explain the connection between the Chinese written language and the Genesis account.
Furthermore, consider the "three wise men" who were from the east, or the Orient, who traveled to visit Jesus at birth.
Finally, consider that just like the video points out, the Chinese are not the only ones who have creation, flood, or Babel stories that are strangely similar to the accounts in the bible. For example:
    The Papago of Arizona:
After a flood, the Great Spirit and Montezuma restocked the earth with men and animals. Montezuma became prideful and brought evil into the world when he rebelled against the Great Mystery by making the people build him a very tall house. The great mystery warned the people by raising the sun in the sky, which cooled the earth. He destroyed Montezuma's tower with an earthquake and changed the language of the people so that they could no longer understand the animals or other tribes.
    The Mikir of Burma:
In the old days, mighty giants ruled over the earth. They sought to conquer heaven so they built a tower to reach the skies. Fearing the giants would take over, the gods confounded their speech and scattered them across the world.
The Choctaw of Southern United States:
The first people wondered what the sky was like, so they decided to build a tower of rocks that would touch the heavens. After the wind destroyed their first two attempts, the people slept next to the tower on the third night. The tower was blown over again, and the rocks landed on the people. When they pushed the rocks away, they were surprised to discover that they could no longer understand each other because they no longer spoke the same language.

There are two possible explanations here. 1. Human communities independently created similar stories to explain natural phenomena as well as supernatural stories. 2. Stories traveled with their human hosts to various destinations changing and adapting as they responded to the social and physical environment. The more likely explanation of the wise men is that they were astrologers who came from Persia and would be familiar with the teachings of Daniel. Historians claim Persian military leaders of ancient times found artwork that looked like drawings of Persians that encouraged them to be lenient with the people.

... Ignorance knows no bound. Floods are a common theme in a lot of cultures, because many civilizations were built around agriculture, which were heavily influenced by flood cycles. The designations of BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini = Year of the Lord) are western designations based on Christianity. Even in U.S. colleges BCE and CE are now used in History classes. Thank you for your observation regarding syncretism. Let me point out the fact that syncretism seeks to blend two religions into some form of hybrid that is supposedly acceptable to adherents of both religions. For example, in Brazil you would find people who go to Candomble worship (a type of Houdu) on Saturday nights where they allow themselves to be possessed "ridden" by spirits. Then on Sunday they go to Catholic Mass and worship the saints. Each of the various Candomble spirits are equivalent to one of the Catholic saints in these worshipers minds.
This video does quite the opposite. The Apostle Paul's speech before the Areopagus in Athens (Acts chapter 17) makes clear that the One Creator God allowed their worship in ignorance, but now calls all men to repent and believe on the Son he sent and approved by the fact that Jesus rose from the dead. This is not syncretism.
However, God had put evidences of who He is within every culture and within everyone's heart so that they might seek Him and find Him.
For anyone interested, you can read excellent discussion of this subject in the books "From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya" by Ruth A. Tucker, and in the book "Peace Child" by Don Richardson -- both were missionaries to foreign cultures.
For further (and much more scholarly) work as pertains to China and Shangdi, read the scholarly book "Faith of Our Fathers" by Chan Kei Thong, which was a major resource for this video.
Finally, as to the very prevalent argument today that one religion is as valid before God as any other. Such a belief is calling Jesus Christ the Son of God and my Savior a liar or a lunatic. He said of himself, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6). Sounds pretty exclusive to me. And that is why Christians throughout history have surrendered their lives to spread the Good News. If Jesus Christ is the only way, then from the bottom of our hearts we plead with people to look to Christ, believe in Him, repent of sin and be born again of the Holy Spirit. We warn people because we love people.
One last point: If I am wrong and all paths lead to God, then I don't have anything to worry about. I risk nothing by being wrong. We are all going to be just fine. But, if Jesus is the Only way to salvation and eternal life, then those who reject God's gift of salvation are lost, and will be eternally separated from God.
The Pharisees once came to Jesus and asked what they must do to perform the works of the Father. "Jesus replied, 'This is the work of God, to believe on the One He has sent," (John 6:29)

@Fred Eric Actrually 帝 means emperor,王 means king

    • @Info-qw8vi
      @Info-qw8vi 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@wg6431 Not exactly. It's a cosmological pictogram. The addition of "di" 帝 to emperor's titles was introduced after the death of the Qin Shi Huang 秦始皇in 210 BC, posthumously by his followers or imperial cult.
      > An asterism joining three stars of Ursa Major with three of Ursa Minor, together with Thuban and Kochab. Around 2000 BCE the three top-to-bottom lines would have crossed at the north celestial pole, where the god 帝 dwelt (Pankenier, 2004).
In the way that Christ "rode on a donkey" (2 donkeys: mother and cold donkey), a cosmological metaphor or allegory for the "donkeys" in the constellation Ursa Minor, "Shangdi" particular the "di" 帝 part is a reference to the North Star that sits above Ursa Minor and is the highest place in "heaven" or "Highest Heaven" ie the "Highest Lord" or Lord on High, as seen from the Northern Hemisphere. -- Similar occurrences in Scripture mirror imagery/ideas in astrological movements. Apocalyptic prophecies in Revelation are full of these. -- e.g. the "Lord on High" as "yehova marom" (בַּמָּרוֹם יְהוָה) in Psalm 93:4-5.
      > The character's first attested use is for “God of Heaven”; it was later used as a title for emperors. Shuowen erroneously interprets the character to be a phono-semantic compound (形聲/形声, OC *teːɡs) : semantic 丄 (“up; above”) + phonetic 朿 (OC *sʰeɡs).
      en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E5%B8%9D
The "帝 means emperor" thing really is a modern misconception. If you look back in history, none of the earliest kings ever elevated themselves to "di" 帝 or a god status. Even Qin Shi Huang did not refer to himself as a 帝, despite his tyrannical megalomania and bloodlust. This was not the norm before him and would have been considered blasphemous to attribute deification status to a man. -- Also, Qin Shi Huang had descent from Qin State 秦國, a Central Asian kingdom which means he wasn't exactly the same as the other Chinese in China at the time, and his first military target was against the early Song Kingdom 宋國 which for certain had ties to "Israel" via the Kaifeng Steles. I am unclear yet if it that period was a mass inter-clan war or an infiltration by marriage followed by betrayal from within.
You'll also find that much of the Chinese religious practices and characteristics have the same quirks as David's own personal behaviour, good and bad, as the Zhou dynasty left during the late Davidic or Solomonic eras. The imperial harem for instance was numerous times the size of Solomon's and the logic behind it followed precedence in the same way that Solomon inherited a harem, normalised by David's choices/behaviour.

SHAND DI is taken from the name of the Emperor SHANG of China who reigned China during the Shang Dynasty! Just like ALLAH..., SHANG DI is a FALSE god of the Chinese! The Chinese Christians should worship YAHWEH instead of worshiping the name of a dead Emperor of China! To the Chinese during the reign of the SHANG Emperor, he was a "god". Whenever an Emperor passed away, he is automatically deified as 'god" and Shang Di happened to be the CHIEF of all the gods of the Chinese! Plain and SIMPLE! Satan knows how to deceive humanity! If man thinks that worships to Shang Di saves, then the same shall be applied to the Allah worshipers, Lucifer worshipers, including the followers of the Jewish religion called Judaism and that represents more than 70% of humanity today. Doesn't that contradict the prophetic words of YESHUA HAMASHIACH in Matthew 7:13-14??? BTW, what did YESHUA say about PAGAN RITUALS?? Did He allow that or He CONDEMNED ritual worships??? Man is treading on a damnable ground here!!

It is mentioned in the video that the Chinese are descendants of Shem. Which line of Shem are they from (Joktan, Lot etc)? Elsewhere I read that the Chinese are descended from Ham (through the line of Sin, Cannan) or from Japhaeth (through Kittim).
Please clarify as I am thoroughly confused. Thanks

Thank you for your question. Let me direct you to Genesis 10:29-30. The sons of Joktan all settled in the eastern hill country. These descendants of Shem are the only ones mentioned in the Bible as migrating to the east. We know that the Cushites migrated into the middle east to become the Canaanites and further down into Africa and then curving around to occupy the Indian Ocean regions. The sons of Japheth went primarily north towards Russia and then west to populate Europe. The descendants of Shem not only settled the Euphrates region, they moved east into Asia. Here is a very helpful website to study the subject: www.eifiles.cn/oo-en.htm

Was there anything in the Shang Di religion that spoke of a coming Perfect Sacrifice? A Son?

To my knowledge, there was no direct reference to a perfect sacrifice or Savior, only indirect allusions. But that should not be surprising because the Savior was promised through the seed of Abraham, and that is why the Old Testament prophecies did speak of a perfect substitute.

The way translates to tao, the truth is he was sent by god, and the life is his promise of life after death. Even the of the Chinese language glorifies the one true God. For example the word "create" in Chinese is a mixture of the words "dust" "breath of mouth" "alive" and "to walk".
Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. -Genesis 2: 7
The God of the Bible is the one true God that the Chinese language is inspired by. He is the God of the whole world, including you and me.
Here is what He requires of us if we want to enter into His kingdom someday.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. -John 14: 6
Whoever believes in Jesus has eternal life, but whoever rejects Jesus will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them. -John 3: 36
Believe in Jesus and you will be saved. Then read the Bible, pray to God and obey Him.
I hope you will consider the great importance of your eternal soul.

      Yes, very interesting.
To create is 創造 cong zou, meaning "to begin to make". The first character 創 cong contains a 丶zyu in the centre, like the yod in Hebrew representing the hand or work of God. Alongside it, just below, is 艮 gan, the "seventh" trigram, meaning divine perfection, and the character is the picture of a man looking back: 目 (“eye”) + 人 (“person”) showing a person looking back (Ji Xusheng, 2004). Hence man was made after the rest of creation. Then it spells 人良 jan loeng "man (is) good, virtuous, respectable", which is 倉 cong meaning "granary; berth; sea", like the imagery of having children like sand in the seashore, or metaphors like the "seed" of Adam, etc.
The Chinese CUV, however just says 造 cou, e.g. 神造 san cou "God made". Which is a 辶 walking radical and carrying a 告 gou, to "tell, announce, inform; accuse".
      > The word "create" in Chinese is a mixture of the words "dust" "breath of mouth" "alive" and "to walk".
      What word was this?

The scientists almost 100% sure that we human started in Africa, but they have problems to explain why we all look so different? No one knows actually how they looked like few thousands years ago, all brown, black what we defined as semite or like we know from Hollywood, white or according to our logic how they must look like? Every believers accept that ELOHIM could count the number of our hairs (amazing, you all should try) and so on and say: "For ELOHIM, everything in possible". BUT if comes in combination with sciences, we tend to limit HIS abililty and power. Many started to believe science more than HIS words (science so far I learn in my life is also not fact, but 'believe', just theories which we rewrite often many times). HOW if HE injected few different DNAs to create HIS own people? Even for a scientist is this possible (later?). Is HE less capable than scientists? After finished our study, many of us think we know everything, then we dig deeper and found out, more questions than answers und must humble yourself. Most scientists with their theories often so arrogant to sell their believes as facts (incl. evolution theory) . This topic is difficult for Chinese to accept, also for many other Asian countries due to colonialisation in the past. They consider the Bible and Christianity as tools to control them (which pity in many instances true). Some others can't accept if it is the truth and considering only their own race as GOD's creation. No one knows actually the 100% truth, we all know bit of whole puzzle. Shalom

Your misunderstanding of Ancient Taoism is amazing. Ancient Taoism was founded in 6,000 BC, and was, in fact, the first recorded mystic path on earth - thousands of years before the Old Testament of the Christian faith. It is more likely that Christianity emerged from the Taoist teachings

Greggo, Sorry to have to correct you, but you are totally wrong. A simple Internet search on the subject of Taoism will take you to multiple sources that will give you the history of Taoism. It was a philosophy developed under Lao Tzu around 500 BC and codified a couple centuries later as it turned into a religion. The history is explained in the documentary, so I suppose you did not really view the documentary. Fortunately, I do not need to defend what is common knowledge.

Many of the modern historians are incorrect as well. There is an enormous difference between a Religion and a Spiritual Path. Yes, the Taoist Religion was established after Lao Tzu by the Chinese government; but, that was 6,000 years AFTER the Chinese Taoist Masters (at the Same Level as Jesus Christ) established the Taoist Spiritual Path.

Since the Chinese migrated to China just after the tower of Babel, how many generations past from Babel to Moses? Moses presented the Law and the ceremonies hundreds of years after the Chinese had already migrated to China. So how did they have such close ceremonies seeing they were given at different times?.

      Hello Calvin,
The animal sacrifices were established by God, and Noah made blood sacrifices immediately after the flood. The following generations retained this truth and remained close as a people, but over time they began to drift away from their devotion to God and sought to elevate themselves -- the original sin from the Garden of Eden all over again. The building of the Tower of Babel was an insult against God who then confused their language. Remember that God had told Noah that he and his offspring should repopulate the earth, but they disobeyed and remained in the Shinar valley area "as one people" (Genesis 11:6). The confusion of languages at Babel started the great dispersion.
It is difficult to estimate how much time passed from Babel to Moses, but here is the point. All the new people groups went their own way, and, over time, they distorted their understanding and reverence of God. (In the book of Acts, the Apostle Paul addressed this issue when he spoke before the Areopagus in Athens.) See Acts 17:29-30.
The Chinese people happened to keep God's original intent of the animal sacrifices better than all other people groups. The picture (type) that God created in animal sacrifice pointed to the fact that "without the shedding of blood there can be no remission (forgiveness) of sin" (Hebrews 9:22).
Abram was a Chaldean and an idol worshiper himself, but God chose to reveal Himself and chose him as the father of a new nation that would be God;s chosen people. What Abram (Abraham) learned from God lead the way until Moses came along and God spoke through Moses and brought the Law through him.
God communicated directly to Moses and to Abraham to bring back the picture of the animal sacrifices to their original intent -- pointing to one perfect sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. (John 3:16).
God allowed other people groups to go along in their ignorance until the sacrifice had been made, and now God calls upon all mankind to believe on the One He (the Father) had sent. (see John 6:29). It is by grace we are saved through faith, and that not of ourselves. Salvation is the gift of God. Not of good works, so that no one can boast that they have earned their way into heaven. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
      I hope this helped.

@@videoparables This is interesting. Yes Noah sacrificed animals after the flood. To honor God. He was not expected to or told to do this. It says Genesis. 8:16, to come out with the animals so they could multiply. Then he built an alter and sacrificed. Not because he was told, but to thank God and honor him. Basically a freewill offering. The only covenant God made mentioned before Babel was that he would never flood the earth again like he did with the flood. Genesis 8:21 The smell of the offering pleased God and he promised to never let it happen again. Then God continues, telling Noah that all things are for food for him, plants and Animals. Just make sure that the animal is dead and well bled before he eats it. Then to show as a sign of this covenant God created the Rainbow. Imagine that! He created a physical law which never existed before. Light could not be bent to split light as through a prism! God was still creating things! He didn't end creation in the beginning! But there is a lack of the mention of a covenant of sacrifices before Moses. Much later in history.
Moses led the Israelite's out of Egypt and God eventually gave them the Law that they agreed to keep. Exodus 20 says "God spoke to them all these words" he then proceeded to give TO ISRAEL the 10 commandments of the law. he didn't give them to the other people dispersed at Babel, but rather only to Israel. As far as the dispersed people, yes they took their belief systems with them and so yes the early Chinese had the belief in one God etc.
Now you point out a very good point in Hebrews 9:22. As the writer of Hebrews said earlier in verse 13 that the blood of animals sacrificed were offered to cleanse the sinner outwardly. But Christ dead much more cleansed believers even their consciences, not just outwardly (verse 14). Therefore Jesus is the mediator of the NEW COVENANT giving those called an eternal inheritance, to set them free from the sins committed under the old. The writer further explains in verse that the law required nearly everything be sprinkled with blood because without it there was no forgiveness.
verse 23 states that all all the things sprinkled were just COPIES of heavenly things, not the real things themselves. Jesus didn't need to be sprinkled to enter heaven because he had no need and he entered the actual sanctuary because he did not need sacrifices, he was blameless and had no need to offer himself as a sacrifice over and over again, he had been offered once because that is all he needed. Verse 26 simply states, "Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement, as Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many not to bear sin but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
But Israel came to believe that they were the only people on earth that had the knowledge of God. They were the chosen of the Lord after all and the bore the sign of the Sabbath to identify them. These laws were certainly much different than any other people on earth had for sure!, but the law was to point to Christ so when he came they would know him. But it didn't because they focused on actions not the point. But you are so right! Galatians 3:11 "Clearly no one that relies on the law is justified before God, because the righteous live by faith. The law is not based on faith, but on the contrary it says "the person who does these things will live by them. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. For it is written, "cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole" He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles though Christ Jesus so that by faith the we might receive the promises of the spirit."
I used the NIV version here

Calvin, I appreciate your reasoning. I see that we are mostly in agreement pertaining to the giving of the Law under Moses and its significance in pointing to Jesus Christ as the ultimate sacrifice for sin. It is hard sometimes to carry on a discussion with people who have no intention of considering a point of view, but I believe you will consider my points. You make the comment that God did not tell Noah to make sacrifices to Him, and you are correct. There is no mentioned covenant until He placing the rainbow in the sky after the flood. But that does not mean that Noah did not know that sacrifice was expected and that the sacrifices were to involve the shedding of blood of animals.
I previously mentioned the fact that God was the first to sacrifice animals in order to cover the nakedness of Adam and Eve, and I believe that they understood the significance of the blood sacrifice as necessary. The reason I believe this is because of Cain and Abel. (Genesis 4:2-7) Abel raised flocks. Cain farmed the land. When it came time to make sacrifice, Abel brought a sacrifice of an animal, and Cain brought of his produce. Abel's sacrifice was good and acceptable. Cain's was not. Why? God gives the reason to Cain in verse 7. He did not do what was right. "Right" was a blood sacrifice. Cain could have exchanged produce to Abel for an acceptable sacrifice, but he did not.
Noah knew that blood sacrifice was the acceptable sacrifice to God. When people tell the story of Noah and the ark they remember the pairs of animals entering the ark (the end of Genesis 6), but they don't remember Genesis chapter 7. Noah was commanded by God to take 7 pairs of the "clean" animals and birds (vv. 1-3). This tells us that God was not only having him bring animals for sacrifice, but He had made distinctions already as to what was an acceptable animal for sacrifice and what was not. (Just as we see in the Jewish temple sacrifices and the sacrifices of ancient China). After the flood, Noah built an altar and sacrificed of the "clean" animals and birds. (Genesis 8:20). And it was pleasing to God.
I am not saying the ancient Chinese were forgiven of their sins by their Altar of Heaven sacrifices as we understand forgiveness of sins through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, but they understood the necessity for a proper acceptable sacrifice to the creator God. This was a type or picture or "marker" pointing ahead to God's perfect sacrifice, just as the Jewish temple sacrifices were pointing ahead to Christ.
If you have time, I suggest two books to read. "Peace Child" by Don Richardson, and "From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya" by Ruth A. Tucker. The first shows how God has placed "markers" in every culture so that when the gospel comes it can be understood. The second gives other examples of how God has used the markers to reach cultures through missionaries.

The only problem with "natural revelation" is that, it could not save someone from his or her sins...

    To be more precise...
    I leave with this statement...
When we talk about revelation, to which do we attribute this?
    To the event in history?
Or, to the words that comments along with the event?
When you focus on the events only... You get liberal scholarship...
When you focus on the words that comments along the events in Scriptures, you get - fundamentalism. I am not using "fundamentalist" as derogatory... In fact, they are heroes in Christendom because at a time when the virgin birth or resurrection were unpopular, it was the fundamentalists who championed these doctrines...
Not so with "liberalism" or Christian liberals... That is for all its denotation, a deviation and a derogation...
    So...
    In order to be orthodox...
You take the Word-Event-Word model of revelation. Because God is the Author... Of course, we could also touch "inspiration" and human authorship... But if you look closely in the events in the Bible...
Whenever there is an event, God gives a commentary prior and after the event...

Most every culture believes in a supreme deity that created all things and the story usually always starts with how this "God" creating the world.
The funny things is that 99.99999% of the people are just followers and not true believers.
For simplicity, let us assume their is one powerful being (whatever name you call it in your culture) - I have asked these few questions to a head priest man in my culture that believes there is only one great God and he created all things.
      01. Why did God even create this world if he is the all powerful because if I was that God I sure wouldn't create inferior beings?
      02. Why God, a perfect being, created a crappy world, worlds, and universe?
      03. How come God being a perfect being created imperfect beings? In the case of the Christian God, how come he created Adam and Eve and Eve was still able to be deceived by the snake (devil) to eat the apple. This prove God created an imperfect being.
And so many other questions that the priest couldn't answer.
Lets take the Christian God as an example - this is not an argument against the Christian God or any God but based on how people believe in their own scriptures.
So the Christian God created an imperfect world and because Eve ate the apple, people are born sinners. Then this God sends his own and only son to clean up the mess that he made.
Makes no sense at all. If God is perfect, all creation is perfect no matter how strong evil.
The point I am making applies to all cultures who say their God is the only true God. In the case of my culture, we have a similar story. In the very end, if those who believe in our God they will be saved and everyone else would die.
This means all our Gods still have outflows like what the Buddha said. The Buddha said Gods are very powerful beings but they still have outflows, meaning they still have hate, love, mistakes, and many other faults in smaller quantities. Why would an all powerful God even chose to say if you believe in me you will be saved and those who doesn't will be killed. A God that is partial is a being that still has outflows.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments, Rucelle. Every one of your comments is correct, to my understanding. And you are correct that Christ Jesus is the only Way, Truth, and Light for us today. Were there people saved before Christ came and became the perfect sacrifice. Yes, of course. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the Old Testament saints looked "forward" to the perfect sacrifice, not knowing all the details, but trusting by faith. Can we be certain that there were Chinese who were saved prior to the gospel being fulfilled? I'm not sure, but I would hope so. It all depends upon what they believed and acted upon according to the light they were given. The generation after the flood of Noah's day certainly had enough knowledge of God and how he saved them from the flood. The animal sacrifices would have rightly been offered to Him. But over time, as always happens, the light is distorted by Satan. The early Chinese seem to have held onto the proper meaning of the sacrifices and the God they were honoring for the longest time, though their meaning too has become lost to the Chinese people. Our hope for the video is that the Chinese people will once again recognize the Supreme God of their earliest history who is now calling them to salvation through the perfect sacrifice of his One and Only Son.
Thank you again for your thoughtful comments.

To be honest... What the Jews had that the Chinese didn't have was the written Word of God. The prophecies and the prophets...
Was it a guarantee to salvation when you posses God's Word?
It depends... But you're already at the front door...
John chapter 3 mentions Moses and the Israelites in the wilderness... And by just by the fact that Jesus Himself quoted John 3, it speaks volumes.
God expects the Old Testament saints after Exodus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, the united and divided kingdom to be saved in the same way...
Now, you might argue that the accounts of the serpent being lifted up in Numbers, as was quoted by Jesus, only refers to physical salvation...
      But... Not entirely correct...
Jesus' biblical interpretation would state otherwise... John chapter 3 also includes spiritual salvation... Eternal life...
The context of John chapter is regeneration...
So, there you go... God's written Word or revelation is also a necessity...

      @videoparables  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have not heard anything in regard to Noah, but I can speculate. Noah and his family certainly remained in the foothills of Ararat following the flood. Most likely Noah died there as the sons and daughters repopulated into large enough clans before they could move out. Genesis 7:6 says that Noah was 600 years old when the flood came. Genesis 9:28 says that Noah lived another 350 years after the flood. Genesis 10 tells of the nations that came from the three sons and indicates where they dispersed to, but in verse 28 we see that the nations were already established before they spread over the earth. Then, I believe, chapter 11 tells of what caused the dispersion. The movement down to the plain of Shinar and the building of the Tower of Babel and God confusing their languages so that they would not remain as one people but would separate into different nations. I believe it is reasonable to believe that Noah never left Shinar. But, if he did go elsewhere it is not essential to the further plan of God.

There eventually was overlapping of genetic and geographic lines between the descendants of Ham, Shem, and Japheth, but in general terms: the descendants of Ham migrated and populated from Ararat southwest through Syria and Canaan and down into Egypt and then into continental Africa. The descendants of Shem also followed the same course down into parts of the middle east and Saudi Arabia (remember that Arabia was populated by the descendants Ishmael, the son of Abraham, who was descended from Shem. Semitic descendants also migrated south from Ararat to populate Mesopotamia, Persia and beyond. The Semites also are believed to have migrated east from Ararat to populate China and Asia. The descendants of Japheth went north from Ararat to populate Russia and then westward to populate Europe.
