Trimming for 37's on a RAM 2500 Power Wagon

  • There will be a little rubbing with 37 inch tires, so you need to do a little trimming, especially if you want to take it off road. Here is a how to video of how to trim the pinch seam, and inner liner with a small filler plate to make things clean, tidy and professional. I've also added some RokBokz mudflaps to keep things street legal.

As an alternative, if you use Method 704HD 17x9 +18mm offset wheels (5.75" backspacing) with a slightly smaller 37" tire (Toyo Open Country RT Trail 37x12.50r17), you really don't need to trim anything to clear with no rubbing. For additional clearance while offroading, I did remove the lower trim piece right behind the front wheels and drilled a couple of holes on the bottom lip of the inner fender liner and pulled it back with some zip ties. For a view of that change, see the related video on my channel.

Is that a similar setup to an AEV Salta or Katla w/ KO2s? (36.5" actual height)

On my 2022 power wagon I'm running BFG KM3's On stock rims with 0 rubbing.
And yes I have put it through its paces.
BFG tires always run a little small these are technically 36.5 that is why I get away with it. I've run them for 8000 miles 0 rubbing through some really narly Logging roads in northern BC in the rocky mountains.
I knew going into it that these these tires always run a little small that's why I went with them so I didn't have to do any trimming plus the new KM3's Are an amazing tire.

Thanks for the info on the BFG's KM3's Danny. I have a 2021 RAM 2500 that I'm going to level with a BDS kit or do a 4" BDS lift, I will decide when I see how much funds the cash department has in it come that time. I have always loved the BFG's on previous vehicles however I have not experienced TOYO or NITTO.

I’ve never seen any (in these videos diy videos) trim the pinch welds beyond the spot welds like you did. I’m sure you would have addressed it if it was a problem, but is there any need for re welding or, JB welding, or sealing in some way?

Are those RokBokz the original or the XL size? Find they help much? I have gravel as part of my drive to town and have had a few pieces oddly come up and hit the body and door handle of all places. I'm also on 37s and AEV wheels on a 2022 PW

Have the same truck and was going to run 35s so I didn’t have to buy new wheels with an offset and have to trim things. I like the look of 37s but am also concerned about the ball joints and other components wearing out faster. What are you doing to save those components?

    • @kmas0n2390

For now, a tire repiar kit, on board air, and a 35 under the bed. I will have to put the 35' spare on the front because the rear has a Posi. Its not ideal, but it will work. I need the bed for other stuff.

@@kmas0n2390 I get it. The spare does eat up the bed space not to mention the all the costs involved with running them. 37"s have proved to be an expensive endeavor for me HA!

Nice vid, appreciate the effort involved in getting close-ups of your work. I really hate being "that guy" but the cutoff wheel touching your left glove at 4:00 is cringe. And while pausing to note the time stamp I see your right forefinger blind behind the plastic in the path of the cut off wheel. I really like the tiny Dremel cut off wheels for tight spaces like this. Offered in sincere regard for your fingers on future projects.
