Excellent upgrades! They make an already admirable ¾ ton pickup, so much better. The one question that comes to mind is how they impact the payload and towing capacities. What are the before/after capacities? Of course, there will be some level of estimation involved, unless you have a way to measure it accurately.
CJC, anothe great piece of content. Question: the guys at Tiny Rig recently installed a Alu-Cabin on my PW (Phenomenal Job from Daniel and Team). On out last trip to Baja, we did experience some signifant sway ON-ROAD / HIGHWAY Driving. Will this suspension upgrade help reduce/elimate that sway (side to side bounce). We even got into a situation where the PW's traction control must have kicked-in and auto breaking was applied. Welcome your inputs before we pull the trigger. Thanks.
Sadly what you're experiencing isn't uncommon. These trucks have two factors that cause that: VERY low payload capacity (under 1,400 pounds for the Power Wagon) and more importantly a rear suspension design that has a ton of lateral movement as it cycles. We offer this system with a high capacity coil called the R2. That with a few extra add ons will get rid of that issue and get you the best setup possible. Shoot us an email to sales@cjcoffroad.com so we can get a setup capable of the rear weight you added!
Funny is I have 17,000 miles on my PW and I got the rear coils broken in and no longer do I have the rear hope and put a aftermarket steering stabilizer and no longer brakes sideways on hard braking. Yes a good suspension fixes all these problems but I didn’t want to build another truck since I have built jeeps in the past to where it drives better then stock with 40’s and no steering stabilizer bar needed and no axle steer. If I was driving offroad at 50 then like you said aftermarket suspension is needed for better handling and braking but for California $hitty roads and the slow offroad it does fine. If I find anymore weak points I’ll address them as they come.

Love the truck, love your guys product. But what happens when you do what most guys are doing like adding a canopy and roof top tent and stuff like that. Does it just squat the rear-end way down? How do the coils handle any kind of weight.
Carli's rear coils have a 2k payload capacity (more than the 1,400 pound factory capacity) but 2k gets used up quickly so you have to be weight conscious with your set up. A RTT is fine, but campers ETC are a no go on Power Wagons. We always prefer single rear wheel 3500s for overland style builds.
It would be cool to see a video showcasing the dominator system on a Hemi. If I get a new truck, It's not going to be a diesel this round. I don't tow heavy often enough to justify the cost.
I've found the best thing for the steering on these solid axle trucks is to put a free wheel hub kit or as they used to call them lock out hubs. Night and day difference in the steering. Be nice if this was an option from the factory. Increased fuel economy and less wear on the front driveline.
These 19+ trucks have a central axle disconnect, so the front driveshaft isn't spinning in 2wd. It acts in a similar way, and we agree free spins are a huge help for steering feel on the 03-12 trucks!
@@jamesklinger2146 I'd like to know this as well. Just grabbed a 2021 PW and I love it so far but man. @@CJCOffRoad Apparently I'm incapable of navigating your site. What are the keywords I should use for my Power Wagon? I'm interested in the Carli Lift, the Upgraded Fog Lights, but the Diesel Intercooler Guard I would looking to do immediately. Does the Diesel Intercooler Guard bolt right up to the Power Wagon or do modifications have be made to Diesel Intercooler Guard and my Power Wagon?
Suuuuper sweet!! good job! Questions and not snarky ones! :). Sway bar disconnect retained or removed? If removed any codes thrown?? when all is said and done how much do you think will be retained from the PW model and will there be a point that you could have saved $$$ buying a 2500 Hemi? Nice to have the stock lockers but i would throw in ARB's to replace them anyway. AND same part numbers for Carli build on the PW as the Cummins or compensation for weight differences??
The sway bar can stay or go. We chose to keep ours since that’s half the fun of a PW! As far as money saved, that math and choice is all up to you but there’s nothing particularly worth saving about the PW suspension aside from the sway bar and articulink radius arms which we kepy! The PW and Hemi trucks so get their own specific shock and spring tunes from Carli to make up for the weight changes though!
I just purchased a 2022 Ram power wagon. Ive watched every video out there on suspension. I plan the order the set up on this video except the +2 coils in the rear. My question is, why did brad with trail recon add air bags after all the suspension work and the plus 2? I have a scout yoho camper that i will have in there occasionally. It weighs 950. Thanks in advance for the information
His camper weighed over 2,000 pounds when fully set up, which means it exceeded the Power Wagon's max GVWR. While the R2 coils sit level with 800-1,000 pounds in the truck. If your camper will be over 1,000 pounds when loaded with gear, we recommend that you add the same Firestone airbag/daystar cradle setup that Brad runs as well. We highly recommend keeping your camper as light as possible however so you don't exceed GVWR. When you're ready to order, shoot us a message on Instagram or email so we can get you setup with the right stuff.
@CJC Off Road thanks for the quick reply. Do airbags take away from the ride when its empty. I watched a video your guys posted with some questions about airbags. I wasn't 100 clear at the end of the answer. Lol. Will i still get the great ride with airbags ?
Sadly yes they do. Airbags both limit up travel and add spring rate, but there's really no other way to squeeze that capacity out of a 2500, so if you want to keep the truck it's the best way to reconcile everything. That's usually why we steer people with campers into the 3500 platform as it's just better suited for high payload situations. The other option is to reconsider your camping setup, and keep weight under 800 pounds. When you're under that mark, you can use R2 coils alone and have zero impact to articulation, travel, and ride!
Sweet Power Wagon. I received my Back Country kit for my 18 F350 Xmas Eve. Had it installed last week. I am so glad I went with the kit from you guys! Truck looks amazing now. Where did you guys film these scenes? Looking for a spot to test out the new suspension. I'm about 1 1/2 hrs from you guys here in Palm Springs.
This was filmed in a dirt lot, with the intro scene filmed on the Mojave Road. If you’re in Palm Springs head up to Johnson Valley or even the area north of Joshua Tree. TONS of great driving out there! Enjoy the system!
Did you have to trim anything to get those 37's to fit without rubbing? I was thinkin of going with 37x12.50R17 to avoid the rubbing issue unless 13.50 doesn't rub without having to trim.
To fit 37s on a Ram truck we recommend a +18 to +27 offset wheel that is no wider than 9,” as well as some mild trimming of the plastic fender liner and maybe pinch weld depending on the tire.
Not a ton of leveled/lifted PWs out there. This is SICK, both in aesthetic as well as usability. That PW was moving through the dunes like a TRX! Hmmm...a PW with the Carli kit and a few power upgrades for LESS than a TRX!? 👀
The torsion bar independent front suspension design lacks strength and travel. Unfortunately increasing travel or upgrading ride quality requires some major changes up front. While you may see a lot of companies offering bolt in coil over swaps, you’re still extremely limited on travel numbers without fabricating a new suspension set up!
A few comments for the watchers from the owner of a 2021 Power Wagon optioned with the 75th Anniversary package and the safety package only. 1. I remain very interested in this upgrade so I asked Ram about warranty coverages. They commented if I were to replace the shocks and/or springs with an aftermarket kit and it has any lift associated with it, the warranty for anything suspension, transmission, differential, and swaybar disconnect would be voided upon installation. I'm attempting to get confirmation of this from someone other than the dealer but it's been rough going. The Magnuson-Moss Act, however, states the dealer must 'prove' the change caused the failure submitted for warranty repair. I have heard, however, it's been at the dealer discretion more frequently than not. I honestly don't know what would happen. 2. The comments about needing a kidney something or other and a mouthguard for the road in question is a bit of an exaggeration. Yes, it's somewhat rough but certainly not excessively so. I would say the shock upgrade with the reservoirs would last far longer and wouldn't deteriorate the feel over longer 'Baha runs'. This is from personal experience. 3. The axle hop mentioned is 100% a huge problem, maybe even more so than mentioned here. Even on a gravel road with a small incline I experience axle hop in 2WD and lost traction quite easily. I have to switch into 4H or go 5MPH. 4. I imagine the 37's with that offset and with the Toyos, the ride quality would be much more stable in those real articulation challenges. I'd love to get a firm answer from RAM about the warranty. I have less than 1000 miles on my truck and would do this upgrade tomorrow if I didn't lose warranty coverages.
Jason, unfortunately the truthful answer about warranty comes down to the dealer. Some have zero issues with quality suspension systems. Others will use them as an excuse to not warranty a headlight assembly. Our recommendation is to find a dealer that’s comfortable with modified trucks, and use them to install the system and perform warranty work. Our favorite is Peterson Ram, Jeep, and Ford in Idaho. We actually work directly with them to install Carli Systems at their dealership on brand new trucks!
Currently this truck has a used Fox 2.0 since it's all we could scrounge up without taking away from customer inventory with the parts shortages going on! And typically this truck gets between 10-13 MPG.
i've not experienced that axle hop you mention. interesting. all i did was put 35s on mine. are you going to make a kit that doesn't level trucks? don't like them leveled since pulling heavy trailers they take on that dumb bulldog look.
For these trucks the height increase up front is key to improve wheel travel and ride quality. The only way to increase wheel travel from ride height on a solid axle truck is to add a little height to separate the axle and frame.
@@sh0cktim3 hp is only 260 but the torque is 480 lb ft, which i think is like 20 lb ft or so more than the v8. So if you wanna hot rod then the v8 would be the way to go. But rock crawling, regular 4 wheeling, the diesel would be great I'm thinking.
Honest question, with all the changes to the stock setup, why get a power wagon and not just a regular 2500? Similar to an AEV conversion or something; then you’d have the option of a diesel.
All we changed is the suspension, which isn’t very special on the Power wagon. Lots of people prefer all the other benefits of the platform like the winch, lower weight of the gas engine, lockers etc!
@@CJCOffRoad That's significant. Do you roughly know what's the improvement in articulation/axle-flex ,departure/approach or breakover angles? Also, have you considered doing an RTI flex test?
RTI’s can be a bit mis-leading since ramp angle, bumpers etc differs, but Carli’s systems bump travel to 9.3” up front and 11” out back. Carli actually did a nice technical video if you want more info: th-cam.com/video/3dEvDwms0Vk/w-d-xo.html
@@CJCOffRoad I get RTI can be subjective. I saw Caril's video and noticed that the kit he covered is different than the one you installed. What's the difference?

Still would like to be able to tow now and then for work though
Thats my dream truck right there. Looks mint.
Awesome video, I wait to see more Power Wagon specific videos. I can't seem to find any Power Wagon upgrades available, any help with that would be greatly appreciated.
We’ve got lots! Check out our website!

Right On, I'll do just that.

Apparently I'm incapable of navigating your site.
I'm in the market for a new truck and the Powerwagon is definitely on my list. Too bad it doesn't come stock with this setup or at least 35's.
Nice the ring gear is welded so its a pain in the ass to swap out gears.
Very good video
Just asking you please about ride quality for pintop on road (highway and in city) is it smooth or tuff ..!?
It NEEEEEDS a HellKitty!💪🏼🇺🇸
Great looking rig!
That's a beautiful truck.
Man... another item on my “needs” list!
Love your guys products
Looks much better than the stock truck also.
That’s a really nice setup and truck 👌🏻
That is a really nice setup! Add a supercharger and money!! Do you guys install superchargers as well?
Did you have to trim anything to get those 37's to fit without rubbing? I was thinkin of going with 37x12.50R17 to avoid the rubbing issue unless 13.50 doesn't rub without having to trim.
To fit 37s on a Ram truck we recommend a +18 to +27 offset wheel that is no wider than 9,” as well as some mild trimming of the plastic fender liner and maybe pinch weld depending on the tire.
This is the first power wagon that looks sexy, great job!!!!
Still got the green 5th gen diesel though? That thing is amazing!
We do!
Not a ton of leveled/lifted PWs out there. This is SICK, both in aesthetic as well as usability. That PW was moving through the dunes like a TRX! Hmmm...a PW with the Carli kit and a few power upgrades for LESS than a TRX!? 👀
Exactly! This thing will definitely out run a stock TRX thanks to the Carli system!
@@CJCOffRoad 👏🏾
It’s still almost as expensive as TRX…
You guys do a lot with Rams and Fords. I'd love to see what you'd do with a GMC Sierra AT4 or Chevy Silverado Trailboss.
Unfortunately the suspension design on those trucks doesn’t lend itself well to off-road performance so we stick to the Ford and Ram trucks.
@@CJCOffRoad I see. If you don't mind my asking could you elaborate a bit on why the suspension isn't so great?
The torsion bar independent front suspension design lacks strength and travel. Unfortunately increasing travel or upgrading ride quality requires some major changes up front. While you may see a lot of companies offering bolt in coil over swaps, you’re still extremely limited on travel numbers without fabricating a new suspension set up!
@@CJCOffRoad gotcha. Thanks for explaining that.
Without your glasses, You look like the old version of the the Christmas story kid
Any chance you guys can do a video on the 5th gen Ram Thuren vs Carli systems? Pros and cons. Why to go one way over the other.

DEFINITELY on the wish list!
@@CJCOffRoad 🥳 Not So Patiently waiting for that! 😆
This setup is straight 🔥 fire 🔥! Is this setup possible with the 1500 Ram Rebel??
How are you getting that thing to dangle like that? In my 2020 The stability control in 2wd cuts in no matter what I do!
There’s a fuse you can pull that cuts power to the nanny systems. It’s the way to have fun since just turning off traction control isn’t enough.
Excellent video info
When are you guys going to produce that “not skid plate” for the 3rd gen Dodge trucks?
@@CJCOffRoad Anyone know of a supporting dealership in Austin, TX or thereabouts?
Did I notice a FOX steering stabilzer? And whats the fuel economy in commuting
Currently this truck has a used Fox 2.0 since it's all we could scrounge up without taking away from customer inventory with the parts shortages going on! And typically this truck gets between 10-13 MPG.
CJC Off Road 10-13mpg with 37’s isn’t bad for a gasser. 👍
Yeeeeesssss!
Will this suspension system work on a truck with load lifter bags and Daystar cradles in the rear?
Absolutely!
i've not experienced that axle hop you mention. interesting. all i did was put 35s on mine. are you going to make a kit that doesn't level trucks? don't like them leveled since pulling heavy trailers they take on that dumb bulldog look.
For these trucks the height increase up front is key to improve wheel travel and ride quality. The only way to increase wheel travel from ride height on a solid axle truck is to add a little height to separate the axle and frame.
FCA needs to put the 3.0 ecodiesel in the PW. 480 lb. ft. of torque is perfect and the mileage would be way better.
How's the HorsePower tho on the Eco diesel? Heavy truck I think it needs a V8.
Did you notice improvement to towing and overall payload?
The Carli coils have a 2,000 pound payload, which is actually higher than the factory PW coils that have a 1400 pound payload.
@@ahmadasg7567 it’s the same exact base system, they just opted for a few of the optional add ons like their fabricated radius arms and sway bar.

What did you re-gear the PW to? I love these trucks.
So did this major suspension upgrade help your towing capacity as well.
This system has a 2,000 payload capacity, which is a step up from the factory 1,400 pound rating. Remember though that you can't legally exceed the GVWR on your door sticker regardless of what suspension is on the truck.
Since this is basically 2500 3in lift do we now have more towing and payload capacity then the stock power wagon
Correct, this has a 2,000 payload capacity vs the factory 1,400.
