Nice video. However, I cant seem to find any bunker video that explains what angle the club enters the sand at - steep to get under or shallow risking blading it - but shallow seems to be the indication in the videos that I’ve seen.
Awesome bunker tips tried this today and it works so easy. Any chance you could talk about how to hit wedges especially 100 yards in. Setup grip pressure correct grip and the swing path in. I can’t stop rocking my lower body and that causes me to lose tempo and accelerated fast on the down slope thank you
Very good Hannah. Looking forward to practicing this. Can you do a lesson on low punch shots into the wind? I always make the mistake of griping the club too hard when I play these shots. I also seem to sway into the ball when I try and keep it low and this means miss-hits.
great advise its all about set up - i also like the advise for people to try lower lofted clubs cause you also never know when you might need that shot - i use my 52* and 9 iron on rounds for 30-50 yard shots
@@hannahholdengolf thanks Hannah, for that, I’ll give a try when it next happens but that is only when I play away, at Epsom we don’t have any bunkers on the downs!
Hannah, this is a great instructional. But have you done a video on how to hit a sand shot when it's sitting on top of some very fluffy sand? I can move it forward in normal or hard sand, but very fluffy is really tough.
I was taught to hit the 3-4 inches of sand underneath the bunker, which works. As I have got better I aim to nip the ball off the sand, this creates good spin. I prefer firm sand for this shot, if there's a lot of sand or it's soft you need to take more sand.
This is great Hannah! Is it the same process for different types of conditions? So, hard packed sand vs. fluffy sand? What about club selection? I really enjoy golf content that talks through course strategy, and I see a lot of content creators talking about managing "misses" - it might be neat to see how to: 1) Plan for the miss and 2) What to do when you miss where you planned. Just some thoughts. Congrats on the new channel!
@@reysius hard packed makes the ball come out faster. I would get more left on the left side as you want to be a tad steeper! I plan to do another video on how to hit different types of bunker shots and how you adapt your set-up, I didn’t want this video to get too long!
@@subsailor1445 love it! Loads of great golfers used lower lofted clubs, if you look at some of the old videos of Faldo at Augusta he is using 9 irons out of bunkers!
I've saw Sir Nick at Augusta in 1993, hole 2 out of 3 bunker shots on #16 in a practice round. The 3rd shot lipped out and the pin was cut somewhat close to the Sunday pin position that Woods made famous.
The confidence in taking a 5 iron from the bunker with the walkway behind that 2nd green 😂 That’s all the proof you need for the consistency of this drill!!
For future content, I'd love an instructional on how to tackle those pesky short pitches that are partial swings (say 40-70 yards) but still require a committed swing to get to the green
I found there are lots of ways to explain bunker shots. If you’re someone who learns by reading, I highly recommend books authored by Stan Utley or Dan Grieve. Both helped me immensely.

@@hannahholdengolf Hi Hannah! Quick reply! Thank you. Looking at the bunker in your video, add another 4 ft to the front lip you are trying to hit over. Hope that makes sense.
@ okay got it! Same technique but you just want to over exaggerate everything. So lower down, open the club face more, keep more loft on with the wrists. Don’t need a different type of shot! Just tweak the basic one
Just a small point, but here the sand in bunkers can be very "thin" to say the least. Have you got some ideas for various sand depths? Often we even get variability between where we plant our feet and the ball. It's damned infuriating but reality.
It’s all the same technique and set up just with a slight tweak. I you need to experiment with how far behind the ball you hit the sand and the angle of attack until you find the right shot for each type of sand.
