I am no Barbara Streisand but I sang this for my father's funeral. This was one of his favorite movies. I miss him but I listen to this song and feel comfort when I listen to it as well.
I can't imagine your loss and the sheer - no I dont even dare to write it - makes me go into a full blown panic attack where I have to almost OD on my meds to stop screaming at 3am .... I'm sorry. Really sorry.
I thought of it today and came to it. Best of years. I actually recorded a video singing with it as inspiration but offkey because my sun was upset and wouldn’t come eat so I incorporated him for fun.
Every single daughter who has lost her Father needs to watch and listen to this. Tears will flow, but that will serve to salve the wounded soul. A remarkable song and performance.
Dad 😂 We both didn't like Babs. I'm laughing thinking of you're face 🤣. He saw me reading a comic book !! It upset him. So he ordered The Classic comic books which eventually led me the books. We had Art night , where he'd show slides of the Masters. He took me to the symphony and The opera & Ballet. 😂 He was my Google before we had it .
God - our heavenly Father Oh God - and my father Who is also in heaven May the light Of this flickering candle Illuminates the night the way Your spirit illuminates my soul Papa, can you hear me? Papa, can you see me? Papa, can you find me in the night? Papa, are you near me? Papa, can you hear me? Papa, can you help me not be Frightened? Looking at the skies I seem to see a million eyes Which ones are yours? Where are you now that yersterday Has waved goodbye And closed its doors? The night is so much darker. The wind is so much colder The world I see is so much bigger Now that I'm alone Papa, please forgive me Try to understand me Papa, don't you know I had no choice? Can you hear me praying Anything I'm saying Even though the night is filled With voices? I remember ev'rything you thaught me Every book I've ever read Can all the words in all the books Help me to face what lies ahead? The trees are so much taller And I feel so much smaller The moon is twice as lonely And the stars are half as bright Papa, how I love you. Papa, how I need you. Papa, how I miss you Kissing me goodnight
I agree with Miles. This womans passion is simply and purely unparalleled. She fit into this song like a glove. I believe Papa is the Father of all. And probably doesn't mind our seeing it this way tho she was probably referring to her papa in the film. (i dont remember it well.) She is a phenomenon of the ultimate woman with class, dignity and spiritual power. She carries it all with such perfection...as she has always done. How blessed we are to have known her, and how blessed she is to carry His ..blessing to touch the world.
"The world I see is so much bigger now that I'm alone"... Chills! The lyrics of this song (and the entire soundtrack, actually) have such deep meaning. I first saw Yentl as a teen. Now, pushing 40, I'm still mesmerized by it as I was back in the day. A movie for the ages. An amazing performance and direction by Barbra Streisand. Always gives me goosebumps!
I would posit that you probably can't sing a song with this depth and passion without understanding at least a portion of it fully yourself. That or you are the world's most oustanding actor.
I worked with Barbara, both on the re-recording and the London premier. Her attention to detail as outstanding, while she was very easy to work with, showing genuine gratitude for everyone's efforts. The only other director who I considered in her class was Fred Zinnemann.
I’ve never met my father, and at this point in my life I don’t feel like I want to, but I love singing this song to the idea of a good father. Something life withheld from me but that I will make sure to give to my children.
After seeing this scene in the theater, I would often sing "Papa, can you hear me? Papa, can you see me? Papa, can you find me in the night?" to God, a God I didn't know. And soon shortly thereafter, I became a joyous born again Christian! I thank God for the multi talented Barbra Streisand.
Michael Crawford and Barbara both did superlative jobs for particular sentimental. They have actually done some songs together (duets) as in songs from the 'Phantom of the Opera' which are incredibly graceful performances to listen to.
I wonder if Barbara had anything to say when Nehemiah Persoff passed away back on April 5, 2022. He was 102. Point being, with Nehemiah portraying Yentl's papa, as well as voicing Papa Mouskewitz in An American Tail, it sucks that he's gone. Not helped by the fact he lost his wife last year. Still 102 is a good run.
he's there for you...just take yourself to a quiet space and learn to deeply listen. time and practice will help you hear what is being said and signs are always around us...be open totheir availability. good luck!
Hard 2 believe a mere two (2) decades +/-... span HER growth & artistic GENIUS between her, 'My Name Is Barbra' CBS TV special & this revelatory work...🎊💐 'Transformative brilliance' readily & effortlessly 'come 2 mind'!!!❤❤❤ 👍🥰!!!!!
They should had Zoey sing this song or "Wishing you were somehoq here again" for Zoey's extraordinary playlist, because a big part of the plot is that she loses her dad who she's very close to. But unfortunately the actress isn't quite up to the task of singing either song. Also she's not Jewish although her boyfriend is.
Right now as I go to vote I remember my grandmother's family. Checkoslavokian jews, several lost in concentration camps. And I say Never Again as I cast my vote for Harris-Walz 💙 I pray they hear us and protect us from the man that wants to be like Hitler.

I have only met my father twice. Not great memories but he's Sicilian. I still wonder.
I thought of it today and came to it. Best of years. I actually recorded a video singing with it as inspiration but offkey because my sun was upset and wouldn’t come eat so I incorporated him for fun.
That is very understandable. He was and is probably very proud of you.
You definitely Barbara Streisand just trying to keep a low profile but i see you
Every single daughter who has lost her Father needs to watch and listen to this. Tears will flow, but that will serve to salve the wounded soul. A remarkable song and performance.
Comme je vous comprends. Papa est parti depuis 30 ans déjà mais ça fait toujours aussi mal. 3:24
Ehhh..maybe not all daughters
One of the most brilliant female voices ever heard on screen and stage...
THE most brilliant voice ever! She’s a 10. Other greats are a 9.
One answer: 1. GOD
She should won the Oscar for this wonderful movie....
ABSOLUTELY!!!!
Both Performance & Direction
A shame the Academy snubbed her both in the director and actress categories. But she did win the Golden Globe for best director ❤️
Yes, indeed !
This movie, and Streisand, should have won many awards in the 1983 lineup. One of the 20th century's 100 best original productions, in my opinion.
"God our heavenly father and my father who is also in heaven." gives me chills every time I hear that part!
I lost my husband September 11th 2022, the words of this song told the story of the day I lost him, I miss him everyday 😢
With this song and these words it is like I can feel your pain!😢
I am so sorry for your tragic loss and send you my sincere condolences.
My Condolences
@@e.conboy4286 thank you
@@AdrieStaalman thank you I miss him every day😢
I absolutely LOVE this movie, I have watched it many times and never get tired of it. Barbra was fabulous in this role.
the same here!! i can say it's probably one of my favourits! feelling less lonely. big up
I always cry when I hear this song. She sings it so beautiful.
God - our heavenly Father
Oh God - and my father
Who is also in heaven
May the light
Of this flickering candle
Illuminates the night the way
Your spirit illuminates my soul
Papa, can you hear me?
Papa, can you see me?
Papa, can you find me in the night?
Papa, are you near me?
Papa, can you hear me?
Papa, can you help me not be
Frightened?
Looking at the skies
I seem to see a million eyes
Which ones are yours?
Where are you now that yersterday
Has waved goodbye
And closed its doors?
The night is so much darker.
The wind is so much colder
The world I see is so much bigger
Now that I'm alone
Papa, please forgive me
Try to understand me
Papa, don't you know I had no choice?
Can you hear me praying
Anything I'm saying
Even though the night is filled
With voices?
I remember ev'rything you thaught me
Every book I've ever read

Help me to face what lies ahead?

Beautiful song! Thanks for words

SHE HAS SAID HERSELF THAT SHE SANG THAT TO HER BIOLOGICAL FATHER WHO PASSED EARLY IN HER LIFE!
I love this song...Barbra songs it beautifully with such soul and emotion!!!

I can play this song for one or two hours and still feel these same feelings every time….

Do You Want to Build a Snowman? by Deadpool
I lost my father yesterday, can you hear me papa
A song for anyone who has lost a father
Or a mother. It goes both ways. And sadly to those who lost all.
Oooh this song always makes me 😢. A daughter's first Love is her Papa! 😭😭😭
"Do you wanna build a snowman 🎶 🎶 🎶"
Oops, wrong video
This makes me breakdown & cry, for Many Reasons!!!! 😭

sill makes me cry every time I hear it
Must make you proud to have portrayed her Papa in this movie, huh? BTW, you rocked as voicing Papa Mousekowitz in An American Tail as well
Every Single Time
Whenever I watch this movie (which is a lot of times), I fast forward it to this scene first. Totally amazing !!
One of the best singers of our time. Olivia Newton John and Bette Midler are as well.
And Donna Summer and Whitney Houston.
Celine Dion too
I’ve never met my father, and at this point in my life I don’t feel like I want to, but I love singing this song to the idea of a good father. Something life withheld from me but that I will make sure to give to my children.
Voce meravigliosa e interprete sorprendente in ogni sua apparizione

lost my mother 9 month ago. so i set mama instead when listening to this great song.
Michael Crawford and Barbara both did superlative jobs for particular sentimental. They have actually done some songs together (duets) as in songs from the 'Phantom of the Opera' which are incredibly graceful performances to listen to.
Damn deadpool is not lying
Babs and Pav. The 2 greatest voices ever. Period. 💕
Do you want to build a snowman?
Ahhhh!....such a great song!!!!!.....
I finally found this after seeing the clip of Nelson singing at the window of The Simpsons.
This song is so Beautiful!
Ich war sehr verzsubert , als ich diese Lieder , im Film " Jentl ," in New York , vor langer Zeit sah!❤❤😊
Such a gorgeous performance.
Miss BAbs NONE of these so called millennial teeny bop singers have NOTHING even close to your greatness!!!

Wade was right, it kinda DOES sound like Do You Wanna Build a Snowman.
@NakedAndLaughing Yeah this is one big ripoff .You are ignorant.
Hard 2 believe a mere two (2) decades +/-... span HER growth & artistic GENIUS between her, 'My Name Is Barbra' CBS TV special & this revelatory work...🎊💐
'Transformative brilliance' readily & effortlessly 'come 2 mind'!!!❤❤❤ 👍🥰!!!!!
That note ....
Who is here because of Nelson
The Yentl producers should've filed a lawsuit against Disney for copying their song
To be fair, songs sound the same all the time. It's nothing new. Mere coincidence.

Did anyone come here from Will and Grace? XD
ミュージカル映画、邦題「愛のイェントゥル」の中の曲ですね…。
Aren't Jews not supposed to talk to the dead? Why is she singing to her dead father?
Because everything is not written in a book. Sometimes
you just go with your emotions. God gave us emotion to express...
It's a musical...
im trying not to b sorry but ... miss u so damn much girl.
