  • Some of us are afraid to face death. However, it is different when it comes to the Toraja people, who are natives of South Sulawesi’s Toraja Regency.
They interpret death differently-no sorrow, just happiness. Observe how the Toraja people perform the burial rites known as Rambu Solo as the final act of remembrance for the deceased. It goes festive and expensive.

13:38 sounds more like a Papuan accent to me 😅. While I understand the good intent i.e. building rapport by speaking the same 'language,' if not done well, it could lead to the locals perceiving that we are making fun of them. It would be better to just stick with plain, formal Bahasa Indonesia if we dont speak their local languages very well.
But overall, good stuff. Thanks SEA Today for creating this Indonesian heritage series.

I was born in toraja, so i understand as well as toraja accent. Actually, papua accent is not weird to talk with toraja people because most of toraja people also living in papua and we called them "perantau padang lassu" (mencari rejeki diluar toraja)
