I respect that you're the only reviewer I know of who would make a 24 minute video about an off brand 50mm 1.8. In here to obsess about gear and you allow that, lol.
Dustin is just doing serious work you can rely on.
LOL - that makes me a special kind of crazy...and you too, obviously ;)
@@DustinAbbottTWI I skipped the last part with the details of the results - I do have some 50s - and I am on RF.
Thanks for all the work you share!
Excellent review!!
Thank you kindly!
Hello sir Abbot , nice to see you. Missed a lot of your videos, because I did not get your notifications or page feed.
Watching the videos now.
I finally bought the sel 90mm Macro, was thinking about it ever since 3 years when I watched your reviews.
I hate to hear that I'm not showing up in the algorithms. I definitely get shortchanged sometime by TH-cam.
Hi Dustin, thank you for putting so much time and effort into this great review! I’m wondering how this really stacks up against the Viltrox alternative. Could you shed some light on that?
I like this lens a little better optically, and the autofocus better on the Viltrox. This lens really has beautiful optics for the price.
Great review, Dustin! If you had to choose between this lens and the Viltrox 50mm 1.8, which one would you choose and why (without taking the price difference into account)?
Hmmm, tough question. The Viltrox is going to be the better focusing lens (and is more compact), but this lens has nicer optics and can produce nicer images overall. I'd probably lean towards this lens is you don't need top notch AF.
@@DustinAbbottTWI Thanks for your advice! As I don't need fast AF I will go for the 7Artisans. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
Can you review the 50mm AF Meike lens? I heard it was a really sharp and good lens.
It's recently been offered to me, but I'm so busy right now that I couldn't say yes.
This or the samyang 45 f 1.8 in terms of image quality and sharpness?
The 7Artisans is a little sharper, but it is also HUGE by comparison. The Samyang also has a little better autofocus. You'll have to determine what is the most important for you.
@@DustinAbbottTWIon a 61 megapixel body?
Plastic lenshoods are better if you drop the lens top down. The hood should be soft/break to save the lens, just like the front of a modern car. Viltrox lenses with metal hoods are known to break when falling on the hood since it gives no cushion.
That's fair, though the quality of plastics really varies. Some feel cheaper than others.
Thanks for a great review. It seems those Chinese manufacturers are getting better and better.
They definitely are...particularly Viltrox, but others as well.
No a bad choice for someone getting started, nice I really like the in death details. 😊
Thanks!
I'm confused - how on earth could a lens cause too MUCH colour saturation???
It has to do with the optical glass. Some is better than other - more balanced, neutral, while other will produce slightly garish colors, be warm, cool, etc...
@@DustinAbbottTWI ok I understand now - thanks. I thought you were saying that some lenses could produce slightly garish colours right across the spectrum, which I think would be impossible for a passive device such as a lens. I can certainly understand that the glass could affect the colour balance.
Bokeh has 2 syllables not 3.
Bo- kah
First of all, I pronounce it bow-keh (two syllables), and that is actually the closest to the original Japanese pronunciation (the language from which the word comes).
