  • My poor poor Ring.... Automotive Bluetooth Tyre Inflator - it's broken!
    It seems to be shorting out, and not pumping - which is really annoying, because, that's its sole purpose! In this video I take it to bits and investigate the issue.. Will I find it, will I fix it? Well watch and see!

    Fun video Kip, it will be interesting to see why the motor is behaving like that when you can get to look inside it 👌👍

    You should have said “Ring Tyre Inflators are…” at the beginning. 😂

    How many amps can your bench supply provide at 12 volts? The motor may not be shorting, but exceeding the surge current available from the power supply.

    Use some small pliers or side cutters to prise out the motor lugs. Make sure you power supply current limit is at maximum you are hitting the limit. Before opening the motor put some oil on the bearings each end then run it ensuring the current limit mentioned above is at maximum. Then put back together.

    I usually just put little drips of machine oil when dealing with ceased motors like a fan one, then move it by hand both directions and it is free to spin. The motor is spinning on low voltage but something preventing it to spin faster when it is forced to and cause a short. since you are getting a new one maybe consider the oil trick on both ends and this can solve the issue, and as usual nice video 👍

    Are you sure that's a straight 12 volt DC motor? It's not using PWM or AC voltage to power it?

    • @kiphakes
      @kiphakes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely DC the little red dot on the bottom is a polarisation mark
