I don't know which community is Arkada following but every person talking about Vinland saga said that whole 24 episodes are prologue. Four episodes were just to kill the most influential person in lore.

I've carefully avoided spoilers for Vinland Saga but I've tripped over a few which I'm not sure if they're spoilers or just exaggerations. One is that the prologue to this anime is going to be this entire season. In which case.....whaaaaaaaaaat?

2019 was undoubtedly a great year for anime. From Vinland Saga to Promised Neverland to AoT to Demon Slayer, there's too many to choose from. I personally couldn't rank them all.

I don't think I've ever seen an anime review anywhere without his stupid comments such as: "Attack on Titan is no doubt the best anime in history/ Annohana is no doubt the best anime in history/ (enter any anime) is no doubt the best anime in history/this is the best review channel (under any random review channel)".
Also, he never replies back, when multiple people call him on it.
He is like a male feminist. Super creepy, with no spine and one goal to achieve using devious tactics.
Sometimes however I'm not sure what disturbs me more, that I watch far too much anime and anime review, or seeing him.
I'm just heartbroken that Arkada didn't watch "My roommate is a cat," It's so pure.

@@Felix-rc8kf Oresuki was fine, Cautious Hero was good but not great. Oresuki started well but drifted to being the exact same as every other harem romcom quite fast. Cautious Hero did some things different, its comedy was good, it looked fine and the characters were fine too. The story was good, giving a 'full' story of defeating the demon king in the isekai world when normally the demon king never even appears. The cautiousness was interesting too, especially when you see why he is that way and why he does certain things, such as blowing up bodies.
But can you shut the fuck up about 'smelling mediocrity'. Unfortunately, we are not privileged enough to get hundreds of hours of pure gold every week. Unless you are new to anime, you can't just watch amazing 10/10 shows every day. Nor would I want to. Watching mediocre, bordering good shows is fine, in fact I recommend it. It helps you appreciate the better stuff, it can be watched in a more relaxed fashion and it is good for watching weekly. I wouldn't want to watch a 10/10 show in between study for example, just watching the weekly stuff however is perfect. If I was ever so much of a stuck up, spoiled fan to say such utter shit, I think I'd rather never watch anime again. There is nothing wrong with mediocrity as long as it isn't praised as gold. If you are going to review shows for a 'best of' list however, you should at least watch the mediocrity so you can give it a fair chance.

But there are plenty of people who give out about Isekai's or 7/10 shows and so on. While it is true that Isekai is filled with utter trash, in the end, a good show is a good show no matter what and just because it is an isekai, doesn't mean it should be shat on. And I am not even an isekai fanboy. So sorry if I misunderstood you to be one of the many snobbish anime fans who believe everything but anime from the 90's is trash to be burned, and I say that as a massive fanboy of LOTGH.
Oresuki is terrible for the same reason as Shield Hero. It disguises as something different from the genre, just to become more generic than your generic anime.
Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2 and Mob Psycho II are my favorites this year.

Finally, an anime youtuber that recognizes Fruits Basket as the best anime of the year, Thankyou Arkada. Fruits Basket is such an underrated anime, and everyone should watch it.
It's my number one favourite anime of this year, even if I'm a little biased with being a huge fan of the manga for years beforehand. This anime is everything I could have ever asked for

Episode 7 broke me and my enjoyment of show. I still love it for quality and the amount of time i was thinking about it. But i can't enjoy it.

It's not underrated, it's underwatched. Only legal way of seeing it at the moment is in Japan.
Ya it's behind Netflix paywall.It's streamed only in Japan.The only way to watch beastars is through fansubs.
Jubessin Beastars is my favorite of the year and the manga is currently my favorite manga.

Ascendance of a Bookworm was my favourite in an honestly great 2019. Loved it soooo much I picked up the LN's. Season 2 cannot come soon enough.

I feel like lowering Chihaya and AoT because their prior seasons make them harder to recommend is a strange thing to do. That doesn't lower their quality at all. Maybe I'm misunderstanding Frosty as the best when it more accurately means a mix of that and ability to satisfy others desires.

After all your supposed to be only rating the anime’s/season of the current year and how much it has improved from previous seasons
@@oxikons__sinsxo1330 No. Rating an anime based on a fantastic season is very illogical. This is essentially rating a story around it's rising action and climax. It's a completely wrong method of judging a series. You can't just completely disregard the flaws it had before season 3 and just boosts it's rating simply because it had a fantastic season. It's like saying I would rate Full metal Alchemist Brotherhood a 9/10 around the plot where Edward fought with the Father. It doesn't work like that.
I'd rate the series 7.7/10, because the way it's narrative portrays it's characters (Historia, Ymir, Erwin) is astounding. But there are parts that fell flat. Mikasa's characterization is deliberately ignored by WIT studio, certain dialogues had flawed reasoning (Basement?) and a little rickety in minor parts of the show. I expected it to reach a 8.5/10 at the least when season 4 hit. But rating an entire series based off one season is equally flawed as those claims you lashed. The top 5 of MAL are fully completed shows and are not "split into different seasons" to be judged. FMAB, steinsgate, HxH, LOTGH, excluding Gintama. Lol.

Imo the top 3 anime of the year were:
1. Attack on Titan S3 P2
2. Beastars
3. Vinland Saga
AoT blew my mind with the basement reveal. This season had some of the best plot developments I've seen in anime. The battle sequences were extremely hype as well with the stakes being higher than ever before.
Beastars was a huge surprise with it's grounded and interesting characters that have great writing. This anime has stellar worldbuilding as well. It feels super unique with 3D animation and animal characters. Amongst all these other shows that look similar to each other and play it safe, Beastars truly shines as something of it's own.
Vinland Saga has one of the best villains ever in Askeladd. Love the dark story and the setting is dope. Music is kick ass too.
Do I need to watch season II to watch season III?
@@hogue3666 You'll miss a very important part of the story if you skip it so I recommend you watch all of it. I'd never recommend skipping seasons of any anime.

The “Tsurune” it was “Kono Oto Tomare” which is an amazing series 9/10 easily and one of those mangas that could be consider “Masterpiece” God Tier level. One of the best hidden gems in the 2019. Definitely worth watching.

I got mad respect for Arkada calling Fruits Basket the best anime of the year. It's insanely heartwarming with a truly wonderful cast of characters. It was also compelling and mysterious enough to keep you coming back for more each week, but not cliff-hanger stressful like a lot of shows are. It's a rare balance I truly appreciate because hey, sometimes I don't want to feel stressed at the end of an episode. And Fruits Basket hard core scratches that itch.

Nice to see Fruits Basket being 1st, definitely deserves it. It’s my number 2 this year only just behind Mob. Not sure if you have seen it or it wasn’t on the tier list since it’s a 2018/2019 anime. Run With the Wind is definitely worth a watch.

yes and it still belongs in D. Just look at Go-toubun who did harem justice and the anime of 5toubun would still be a hard B for me.
Bokuben sticks to old harem tropes instead of inventing. The STUDYING itself werent really explored and took a back seat to the harem. Meanwhile Gotoubun emphasis a fuck lot on the studying & it would stick to it from start to finish.

I had a lot of fun with Bokuben though. I'd put it at about B tier, personally.
The initial premise and story of it was fine, then it completely took a nose dive, especially in season 2. The show is a trope filled dumpster fire that has no rhyme or reason any more.
Kono Oto Tomare is my Best of Year. Hell it even made my Top Favorites list which I'm really really picky of.

Alright, let me rack my brain:
3 favorites of the year (not in a particular order, just the 3 favorites). I am happy all 3 of these are getting continuations, and they were all so good that I went from watching the show to reading the manga volumes as they're released:
- Dr. Stone - Science is fun! The show makes science fun!
- Demon Slayer - Is it perfect? No. It has issues. But it does action very, very, well. And I enjoy it greatly.
- The Promised Neverland - Such well done, psychological and horror stuff.
Other things I watched:
Kemono Michi - Watched the first episode because the premise sounded silly. Didn't follow up though.
Fire Force - Stopped following it weekly, but it got a second season so maybe I'll give it a binge-watch catch-up later.
My Hero Academia S4 - Few eps behind but enjoying it still.
Ascendence of a Bookworm (this is because of you Tristan) - watched the first four episodes. It's a very sloooww show.
One Punch-Man S2 - Just casually watching on Toonami. It's okay. Not super-engaging, but okay.
Sarazanmai - watched the first ep because of a "We'll give you an anime to watch" quiz. It was not my kind of weird.
Kaguya-Sama - I've watched the first 4 episodes. It's funny. I've already read through the first 9 books of it.
I'm gonna say Fire Force surprised me. Went in expecting to not like it (For similar reason as Arkada) came out wanting to read the manga sooo I'd give it a good binge. C:

I understand why you put fire force in B tier because of the lucky lecher bs, but why did you then put araburu in the frosty tier when it has an entire subplot dedicated to hongo blackmailing and sexually harassing her teacher? That dropped the show from like an 8/10 to a 4/10 in my books, because it's completely unnecessary and in the end Okada concludes it without consequences in such a cheap way (the hotel scene) that seems to be pining for the audience's tears. I can sort of see what she was going for, but the whole subplot was handled so strangely.

How was 2018 better than 2019? There is literally not a single show that i remember from last year. Just to refresh everyone mind mob psycho came out this year.
The 2018 in the slices of life ( a plache of futher than the universe , violet evergarden , zombieland saga ecc... ) and in the spokon was better, it depends on the tastes.
2019 is certainly one of the best anime years ever as far as action anime, historical (Dororo, Vinland Saga, Demon Slayer etc ...) and above all shonen, I mean One Piece, Black Clover and even Boruto this' year have given their best.
I totally agree with the choice of anime of the year. No other anime this year made me cry as much.
Babylon is truly the most underrated show of 2019. Literally has some of the most realistic actions that a main character would do as well as some of the most intriguing philosophical questions. Revoroot's schedule for that show is mildly infuriating but after watching episode 7, I'm 100% positive it's the best of the fall season.
Kono Oto Tomare! is not Tsurune... but it is a really good and underrated show imo
Bookworm was my anime of the year. Even beating Promised Neverland for me. My goodness that story. I was crying along with the characters in some scenes.

For the ones that you put in the C and D tiers, a few of them were "no arguments here", but a few others I went "...ouch.", so overall I understand why. I don't agree with some of the ones that were "...ouch.", but I get it. The main case point of contentions I will make personally is for OPM 2 and Shield Hero.
One Punch Man Season 2 definitely dropped the ball this season, but it didn't feel like it was "below average", just more "average" in the fact that the arc in the story overall just took a major dip in what they did and covered. Plus, this honestly felt like a much shorter season when it came to introducing so much for the Monster Association and the Hero Hunter and then...just stops. If not for those issues, I can see why so many put it below average, but somehow it felt more average that I'm still ready for the next season. I'm just now hoping that they do better with the animation and have it ready from the start, not further down the line.
Rise of the Shield Hero is another contention I'll have to bring up mainly for how it did things differently as an Isekai and having some interesting new ideas to be focused on for the forefront of the genre. The fact that there are alternate variations of Earth showcases that instead of a group from one location, there are multiples that can be brought from different dimensions of sorts and that to have a chance to "sink or swim" together shows how one's strength in actual character can either help you live or die. Plus, to have a UNIVERSALLY hated character (and one F%*K BOY McGEE) having so many draw their ire, shows that the writing overall is there and can bring so many to have fun discussions with what can be done for the show. But, I can confirm that the RPG trope in the show is wonky and while it does have that harem feel to it, it's not to the point of being like the old school harem shows that started to plague (literally and figuratively) the late 90's to mid-2000's anime scene. It's a personal Above Average (your B Rank) show that I did enjoy, but I get it with it not being your cup of tea.
All in all, solid job for the list and also, with your comments about Fire Force, is it because of the author's usual bit for being almost like Soul Eater for some of the humor and writing?
Shield Hero does nothing meaningful that feels different from the usual isekai fare, and while the harem aspect isn't prominent, the fact that it's comprised mostly of prepubescent girls raises some serious red flags.
I can get behind Naofumi being a garbage person if the anime portrayed him as such, but instead it wants us to think he's some tragic, misunderstood soul worthy of sympathy, when he's not in the least. And the other three heroes are complete narcissistic morons so the show can justify Naofumi as being more right than they are. There's so little thought put into every plot beat as well as the worldbuilding that it's genuinely impressive.
I really didn't mind One punch man S2.. I didn't even know it was getting hate. The introduction of the Hero Hunter has got me real hype. His fight scene by the shed was some pretty decent animation too actually. I def wouldn't say its below average tho; I cant believe its being listed that way for multiple people :C

I just finished this show and it easily climbed to the top ranks of this year. Not only that but it became one of the most emotionally resonant and enrichingly meaningful experiences I've ever had. I think that's due in part to me watching it at a most appropriate time of my life. There're tons of life lessons I could take from it. And Haiji might as well be one of, if not the most beautiful and inspiring character I've ever had the chance to conceive.

2019 had 3 legitimate 10/10 shows for me (and I have a total of 9 including these 3): Attack on Titan S3P2, Vinland Saga..... and Run With The Wind.
2 of those 3 are getting the attention they deserve. The 3rd? Overlooked at every turn and it saddens me so greatly to see one of the most moving shows I've ever watched get ignored.
As someone who had never watched or read Fruits Basket before, I absolutely loved the 2019 remake. It was that emotional ride that I loved anime like Toradora for, it had something about it that many newer anime lack that I can't quite put my finger on. Also, having watched it dubbed, it was so nice to hear Laura Bailey in an anime again after so long

I'd agree that Fruits Basket is my best of the year it was such a pleasant surprise for me and the story grabs you in a way that you won't ever expect and it's a rare feat lately

Best of the year for me: Chidori: Rifle is Beautiful. I expected a "girls with guns sports" show. I didn't expect the sharpest comedic timing of the year coupled with the funniest performance in the glory that is Hikari. She took the concept of "idiot hero" and shot it to death.
Love is War was great but it doesn't have Hikari. I rewatched Chika's dance but with Chidori, I watched the episode following Hikari's National try out three times.
Episode starts "I made it through my set and now" *Hikari intensifies* "And now!" Hikari loses her train of thought "And now I don't have anything to do." Erika: "AT least get changed!"
My favorite of the year so far is 'Kaguya-sama'. But, I still haven't seen 'Mob Psycho 100 II' or 'Demon Slayer'; which have the potential to knock it down a peg.
I'm happy with Demon Slayer being A-tier. But it also has probably the episode of the year in Episode 19. It was just such a beautiful combination of visuals, sound effects, music, timing and direction, and even theme and story. There is a reason it trended and it showed what anime can be.
Try Fruits Basket & Kono Oto Tomare, they both excels Kaguya
Mob Psycho might, Demon Slayer won't. I'd recommend Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun if you liked Kaguya though. Very under rated but has good comedy, a good story and good characters. It is technically an isekai but not a fantasy one and it is quite unique. More similar to Rosario no Vampire than anything else.

Vinland Saga is the #1 best anime of 2019 to me. I consider Babylon to be one of the best shows of the year, so it's a shame you haven't seen it yet
GR is such a stereotypical anime nerd and I love it, his videos are incredible.
Vinland Saga, Chihiyafuru 3 and Beastars in the Frosty Tier is all I needed.
And Demonslayer is fine in the A tier
I highly recommend you check out Kemurikusa if you can find time. It's an original anime from the same studio and writers as the original Kemono Friends. It turns up the worldbuilding and mystery of the first season up to 11 and, unlike kemono friends, gives answers at the end. I highly recommend checking it out as it was one of my favorites of the year, right next to Mob and Beastars.
