If there is one anime you try out of all of these, watch Golden Kamuy. It is one of my absolute favorite, and I’ve seen the majority of this list. I really can’t praise it enough, and it’s still ongoing. Re:zero is also very good and quite unique for an isekai anime. The first half is a tad slow although still good, but the second half is fire.
You're tellin' me! I made the truly HORRIFIC mistake of watching Anohana with my mother a few months back, completely forgetting to take into account how the loss of my flaxen-haired twin sister as a little girl might affect my Mom's viewing experience... I am not allowed to play any of the music from the show in the house & every anime I ask her to watch is greeted with one word - MENMA!
From what I understand, Netflix is connected to Beastars so that might have had some influence on why it's already getting a second season. I do think Land of the Lustrous will get a 2nd season since the Blu-Ray sales in Japan were pretty good from what I've seen.
Me: *hears "do you know what made her famous for it?"* Also Me: *looks up and sees "August 2011"* Also Also Me: *scrambles to hit the pause or mute buttons because I know what's coming* What I Didn't Do: Hit Either Button Me At Present: *puddle of tears*
I'm not one to go out of my way to check directors and such, so I was like: "Do you remember what made her famous for it?" "I have no idea" *music starts* "Oh...oh god, no. Staph. Please staph. Not like this... You're not stopping... just like my tears..."
Glad to see Madoka Magica made the list. That show is great not only for the story it tells, but because there is just so much more buried beneath the surface for those who care to look. It's truly a series that can mean different things to different people, depending on their perspective on the concepts it touches on. It's my favorite anime of all time.

Made in Abyss quickly supplanted itself as the best anime I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing upon finishing it. Again....and again....and again. Even though I am aware of how much you enjoyed it, I was still worried it somehow didn’t make the list leading up to the last spot. But, when the year 2017 was displayed, and “The First Layer” started up, even though this is one man’s opinion, I was happy to see it make the list, and I couldn’t agree more.
I watched those 2, Steins;Gate, Plastic Memories, Charlotte, Clannad, Kotonoha, Hotarubi no mori e and Angel Beats! all after each other.... Took me a couple of months to recover!

Man, hunter x hunter delegated to an honorable mention... I mean, I think my favorite was re:zero especially after reading the novel, but objectively speaking hunter x hunter has so much variety in its story and is so well written with a fleshed our magic system and a bunch of great characters and not any sort of status quo. I don’t know, I just felt that it was worth more. I know it’s your personal opinion, and some of these shows don’t even pique my interest that much, but I felt like I needed to voice my grievance.
I've held off personally from watching it cause hiatus, waiting for it to finish while watching finished shows. Maybe he has it as honorable mentions for a similar reason?
All Honorable Mentions is my favorites of the decade. 😂😂😂 Edit: After watching this. I realized how different my taste from Arkada. Almost all the show on this list is not on my list. But who cares all of us has different taste. Thank you for this Arkada. ☺️ Another Edit: When Anohana appears it almost made me cry again because of the song and the nostagia of it. 💖💖💖
Everytime a Kyoani title appeared on this list i felt a tiny sting and tightness in my chest. 6 months have passed but for those who lost friends and family time is all that they can rely on. I hope that we as a community always remember this years events and continue to #prayforkyoani as we celebrate what those now lost creators gave to us and what the studio and its new life might give us in this new decade. As you said, you love anime, we love anime too, and we love Kyoto Animation as a staple of the medium. I think I'm gonna go rewatch A Silent Voice now. Happy New Year everyone.
I’m so glad he picked Made in Abyss as the best of the decade, the anime itself took my breath away, the story and the characters are just amazing. After watching the anime I couldn’t wait for the movie to come out so I just read the manga and let me tell you something it gets wayyy dark and you get so many feels it’s just wow. For all of you that have not watched it, WATCH IT
Simple Dragon maid is not just a comedy. While nichijou is definitely funnier and borderline insane at times , Kobayashi's Dragon Maid has better story , characters , development, ost's , animation and opening.
Used a made in abyss track for the background music of a video editing project during freshman year and my teacher said it was the best in class. It was definitely 100% thanks to the talent of Kevin Penkin 🤝
Sure, I love my Fruits Basket, Yona of the Dawn, Seven Deadly Sins, and Seraph of the End; but Violet Evergarden and Re: Zero were animes that made me ugly cry in ways I needed at the time. I will always keep those in my heart as shows I love.
My top 10 anime series of the decade would be (excluding movies as I feel they belong in a separate list altogether): Shingeki No Kyojin Haikyuu Jojo Made in Abyss Fate/Zero Steins Gate One Punch Man Vinland Saga Hunter x Hunter 2011 Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199
Every episode of Steins;Gate had me on the edge of my seat, trembling with excitement and intrigue. It's the only show i ever finished in a single day.
artorius julius You should challenge yourself with watching both Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0 in one sitting. Invited my friends and even though it’s tiresome it’s definitely worth it.
The construction of this video is AMAZING! The way the music from the anime’s plays first so that those who love it already are just flooded with the feelings that it originally gave them. Like when death parade music came on, I felt so overjoyed yet sorrowful
The instant you described JoJo as an "experience," my immediate reaction was "you mean a Golden Experience?" This show has absolutely ruined me. I hate it. I love it.
I bet you're the only anituber to put Yuru Camp on your list, and I love you for it. I can't really explain my love for the show, but it really is one of my all time favorites
I don't cry very often but when I heard "Secret Base - 10 Years After" in your list, I got instant goosebumps and a little bit of a tear in my right eye. One of the most beautiful anime I've watched
One huge omission I see from both the honorable mentions and the top 25 list is March Comes in Like a Lion. Not sure if you've watched it yet, but if not, it's highly recommended.
Gotta say as a amateur watcher of anime, made in abyss was the only anime that truly impacted my soul while watching. Never have I watched an anime that enthralled my intrest into a world I never knew I wanted and I can guarantee any connoisseur of anime will find it to be absolutely stunning.
Made in Abyss got me back into anime after years of absence and I'm so glad it connected emotionally with such a wide group of people because this show deserves Decade status on effort put into it's production alone. Without it, I might not have gotten sucked into My Hero, One Punch Man, or one of my new favorites of all time, Madoka. I can't wait to see what this show brings into the next decade.
Wow, the moment I hear the first notes from Made in Abyss, I just got chills. I really can't think of another anime that has impacted me so powerfully. Just incredible.

Some of your honorable mentions would be on my list, but your list is a pretty great one. And man, so many of the ones you did choose I agree are just... emotional and I love em.
Really glad to see Fruits Basket included. I feel like its pretty ignored critically speaking, but there's so much this story (and adaptation) does right, and we're only a third of the way through the story.
First off, a confession. I still haven't watched Steins;Gate. It's on my shelf, has been for years, still haven't gotten around to it. Secondly, I completely agree on the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, the film is beautiful, it continues from the series perfectly, and whilst I'm bitter that we've never gotten more (besides books) the end of that film is so god damn satisfying. I watch it every Christmas. And now that I have your attention, I'd like to make my own recommendation, which didn't make it into Arkada's honourable mentions - Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (called Star Blazers in the US, because mUh DaY oF iNfAmY. I'm not even joking). It's an amazingly well done rework of the classic 1974 series, and generally a beautiful bit of sci-fi. I genuinely would place Yamato 2199 up there with Legend of the Galactic Heroes and the original Star Wars trilogy. But sadly it has been an absolute sod to find until recently, and was released with very little fanfare in the West, which is probably why a lot of people missed it (may well be that Arkada missed it, and if so likely for this reason). The show started airing in Japan 2012 (in theatres), with Bang-Zoom starting to dub in it 2013... but then they stopped for some reason and it never got released. Until Funimation picked it up in 2017, so now we can watch it legally. At least, most of it. Funi currently stream all of season 1 (titled on their site as Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199) and all of season 2 (Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202, which first aired in 2017 and is a remake of the 1978 sequel series), but not the film that goes between them "Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Odyssey of the Celestial Ark" (technically this film happens during the last episodes of 2199). Just, go watch it.
I have started to watch Hyouka because of your recommendation. I've always liked how you speak. Idk how to say it besides, you seem to be you and only you. I'm sure real life is messier than these videos makes it seem! So thank you for sharing, please keep sharing, and now that even years later, even if you stop making these, us overt, introvery, or casual anime watchers will be able to see your videos. *barring any weird dystopia or TH-cam takeover or TH-cam implosion. Your content makes me want to try to share my thoughts on anime and engender others to see it's richness. Hyouka is a good example - like you said - of an anime just being unique, idiosyncratic, and engaging all at once. All the best @glassreflection
3 years later and I still love coming back to this list and video. It's still such an enjoyable video. I just don't get the complainers that cried cause their favorite mainstream shounen didn't get on the list. Sorry AoT fans but if it being an honorable mention isn't enough for you then stay away. People seem to also forget Arkada wasn't always a fan of AoT and had issues with the first 2 seasons
The fact that the Haruhi film is nearly 10 years old, and that it was so damn good, along with it being the last Haruhi anime we got, is a crying shame. Surprised at Demon Slayer being only an honourable mention, considering it showed how well you can adapt a Shonen manga with proper budget and great direction.
I've been in a major slump these past few years and I sorta stopped watching new shows altogether, as a result of that. I'm FINALLY saying "enough is enough" and I'm gonna attempt to completely eradicate my backlog in 2020. I've got 60 shows and movies on it, and if I watch at least 1 episode a day, I'll be done before the end of the year. Wish me luck on keeping up with it! Despite being away from the anime scene for so long, I always continue to watch your content and take note of the shows you highlight and catch my eye. Thanks for introducing me to some of my favorite shows of all time! I look forward to discovering even more of them in this new year!
i hadn’t cried in literal years until the ending of anohana. i didn’t cry a lot but 3 tears counts man. every time i hear that song i get shivers it placed so much importance on its sound track
The romance between Shirayuki and Zen is definitely one of the best romances of the decade. So sweet and healthy. I had never seen an anime character apologize for kissing his love interest without asking before, and meaning it. And a lot of the moments had me weak. They have such confidence and trust in each other. I can’t get over how good they were together when anime tends to have some problems with portrayal of romance no matter how much we all still like the couple. This anime is so different and special in that regard.
I'm really sad not to see "your lie in april" on this list because it's my personal anime of the decade, but still, this list included a lot of my favorite anime ever and I found myself gasping at times because of the memories it brought back. Thank you so much for making this video!
My comment accidentally deleted before I could finish it, but here's the gist of it: 1) Despite having watched your videos and being subscribed to you for maybe a decade, somehow I have seen very little of yours pop up on my feed in the last 5 or so years. I don't know why that was, but I'm glad this was my reintroduction to you. This was a great video, thanks for making it. 2) The Disappearance for Haruhi Suzumiya was an incredible work that was 100% unexpected. The anime series was fun and interesting and got a bit more serious at the end, but all anyone would have expected out of a movie were similar levels of antics and drama. Instead, we got emotional, thoughtful storytelling that I still remember feeling overwhelmed (in a good way) and moved by even after seeing it only the once about 10 years ago. The movie didn't need to be that good, but it was, and I thank everyone involved that they put their hearts and souls into making such a good story. It's legitimately one of my favorite movies, one of my favorite anime movies, and to this day I crave more content (canon and fanmade) that further explores the character introspection and development that we got from that movie (unfortunately, I've found little of the sort and gave up quickly). 3) How exactly should I watch the Fate series? In what order? I've been wanting to get into it but there's so many parts to the franchise that it's rather confusing how I should be consuming it
@@shehryar5174 Personally because of its themes & complex characters I think it's the best of the year. But this year has tons of great original and sequel anime so I can see there being a lot of variance in opinions

You haven't watched anything this decade dude!
I've only watched 5 of the entire list, so you're doing better than me.
your lie in april deserves top 25
@@sounaksharma7486 Honestly I agree
If there is one anime you try out of all of these, watch Golden Kamuy. It is one of my absolute favorite, and I’ve seen the majority of this list. I really can’t praise it enough, and it’s still ongoing. Re:zero is also very good and quite unique for an isekai anime. The first half is a tad slow although still good, but the second half is fire.

ngl I was struggling to hold back tears.
You're tellin' me! I made the truly HORRIFIC mistake of watching Anohana with my mother a few months back, completely forgetting to take into account how the loss of my flaxen-haired twin sister as a little girl might affect my Mom's viewing experience... I am not allowed to play any of the music from the show in the house & every anime I ask her to watch is greeted with one word - MENMA!

i just hope we get a season 2 before Beastars gets it's third
It might be in my top 10 this decade. Truly beautiful.
From what I understand, Netflix is connected to Beastars so that might have had some influence on why it's already getting a second season. I do think Land of the Lustrous will get a 2nd season since the Blu-Ray sales in Japan were pretty good from what I've seen.

My heart:
STOPS FOR A SOLID SECOND😭😭
I also watch it every Christmas 🙂 I've yet to get tired of it. #InKyoAniWeTrust

Steins;Gate (and the special) was my anime of the decade.
Same. Steins;Gate has a special place in my heart. (also, Christina is best girl of the decade fite me)
Unquestionably the best of the decade. It’s just like arkada said - best time travel show - not just anime - but show in existence.

I'm really sad not to see "your lie in april" on this list because it's my personal anime of the decade, but still, this list included a lot of my favorite anime ever and I found myself gasping at times because of the memories it brought back. Thank you so much for making this video!
My comment accidentally deleted before I could finish it, but here's the gist of it:
1) Despite having watched your videos and being subscribed to you for maybe a decade, somehow I have seen very little of yours pop up on my feed in the last 5 or so years.
I've been wanting to get into it but there's so many parts to the franchise that it's rather confusing how I should be consuming it
My top 5 in no particular order are:
Hunter x Hunter
Vinland Saga
Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
March Comes in Like a Lion
Space Brothers
I hope we get another season for Vinland Saga.
My top 5 in no order:
Made in Abyss
A Silent Voice
Yuru Camp
Shirobako
Youjo Senki
@@TheZestyCar They teased a sequel of some sort. But it'll probably happen after WIT finishes with AOT
Damn, vinland wouldn't make my top 5 of this year but okay
@@shehryar5174 Personally because of its themes & complex characters I think it's the best of the year. But this year has tons of great original and sequel anime so I can see there being a lot of variance in opinions
Made in Abyss was easily my anime of the decade, sad to say I didn't really keep up ladder half of 2018 and all of 2019. 2020 We're gettin back to the good ol days
He NEEDS to watch sangastu no lion
me: hears the wolf children soundtrack
me: immediately bursts into tears
😭
I am SO happy you had made in abyss as high as you did. It got anime of the year in 2017 and i still feel like it was underrated as all hell. The best example of worldbuilding in almost anything ive consumed along with one of the best osts ever. Fuck i love this show
