on April 10 2016 I caught a lot of crappies like over 10 crappies and a really giant 3 pounder bass!!!! That bass was the biggest fish I have ever caught in my LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+timwins31 I'm from Michigan and I was unaware of any size limit on the holes. there are guys up hear that cut huge rectangle holes to chuck spears at pike through.
+timwins31 yes its due to safety issues... sometimes lakes look like swiss cheese and there deadly for falling in the holes twisting ankles especially snowmobiles .... usually 12 inches is legal limit
I plan to go ice fishing this week. its been too warm to go the last few weeks and should have some safe ice. I plan on catching some bass, bluegill, and especially crappie through the ice. this will be my seconds time icefishing.
Not sure where you are fishing but where I'm from them are little crappie. We fish the lakes in NE Corner of Indiana an 13" + is the normal size for us an I've caught an seen 20"+ crappie. Still lots of fun & good eating.
Pro tip lol. Buy some bait the night before. Grind it up and put it thru the holes you'll fish the next morning. Works damn well with bass and crawps. I'd catch a bunch of frogs and kill a few, chop them up and toss them off the dock the night before. Doesn't work so well for larger fish though. You're limit is gonna be like 2.5 lbs at very very most. But last time I did it, I caught 37 bass and perch in one sitting, in under 2 hrs. Large mouth, small, rock, big sun perch that somebody set loose in the lake. If chum works for sharks, why not fish?
Really luved the video. But ur fish finder caught my eye. How'd u set it up. It looks like a fish finder ud use on a boat and that's what I'm looking into setting up.
Awesome video and great early morning action! Couple questions? How was your slip bobber setup done (weighted or none weighted bobber , size bobber, bobber stop or none)? Any tips for baits to use when not using slip bobbers i.e. tungsten micro jigs? I see your not using a flasher but just a portable depth finder. Any special setup for that in settings vs normal use? Thanks in advance !
Two small splits hot and a small Aberdeen hook baited with a perch minnow. Micro jigs work too. That is indeed an ice flasher I'm using in the video. It uses graph mode, or flasher mode. Lowrance X-67C
Jixs 203 I live in Minnesota and ice can get up to 2 feet where I live. The ice only needs to be 4in deep to walk on so in most cases it is pretty safe to walk on ice. But always bring ice picks just in case.
I'm live I texas and we do a lot of night fishing. At A lot of the popular lakes people have green lights on their docks just for that reason. It's fun at night!!
Hi that looks fun to do .Unfortunatly here in Belgium this is not possible because of the milder climat but I sure would like it.What is a crappy?A little carp ? Very clear cam you're using. What kind is this?I would like to use this when I'm fishing as well.
Coming from OZ, ice fishing is totally alien to me. I've heard a few dudes get killed each year, same as the rock fishing in OZ, but must admit, our fish tend to be just that bit bigger
Nice! Looked like a nice, calm, fish filled morning. Bet they tasted great.
+Ryan Costello crappie are the best!!!
+Blaine Tegaue (V for Vendetta) Arent they crappy? get it? ;3 no okay ;-;
I've never fished on ice but for that kind of haul I'd try it :)
love that low light crappie bite when you catch them trading to the shallows!!!! Good vid.
Well done mate, I wish I could do something like this sometime! But I live of the coast off Australia.
2 things. 1 beautiful fishing very active. 2 that ice is pretty thin
Nothing better than crappies man!!! Nice!!! We have a size and number limit here. Cool video man!!

nobody cares 3 year old
looks like you hit this fish at the right time JB...Nice batch of panfish buddy...
what happens when the fish is bigger than the hole?
Problem solve its illegal to make a hole bigger than the size the government says
+timwins31 I'm from Michigan and I was unaware of any size limit on the holes. there are guys up hear that cut huge rectangle holes to chuck spears at pike through.
+timwins31 Yup, spearing pike is a quite popular in the midwest. There are some videos on TH-cam about it.
+timwins31 yes its due to safety issues... sometimes lakes look like swiss cheese and there deadly for falling in the holes twisting ankles especially snowmobiles .... usually 12 inches is legal limit
+timwins31 due to the fact you cant release it there "uptight" .... who wants to eat 40 inch pikes.... there much better fish that could be eatn

Man, in southern California, the closest thing we have to that is fishing through holes in the weed for bluegill! Thanks for the awesome video!
Oh my, talk about fun, I cant wait to get on the ice this winter!
Oh crap, crappies! Not huge but very nice bite, good times :)
What sonar are you using? I much prefer the graph style or a flasher so I think that's what i am going to go with. Great videos!
It's an X67C by Lowrance. You can run it in either mode, it has both!
Looked like a great day on the ice! Awesome video!

Good video!! What kind of camera is that??
From the lack of commentary, I'm pretty sure they just posted this to make us all jealous ;)
Really luved the video. But ur fish finder caught my eye. How'd u set it up. It looks like a fish finder ud use on a boat and that's what I'm looking into setting up.
It's a Lowrance X67C. Equipped with a special transducer for ice fishing. You can also hook it up on your boat with a regular transducer.
Man, that looks like so much fun. You ever make it north of the bridge for some ice fishing give me a shout. Good times on Superior right now.
just watched. getting ready and jittery for the season. sweet vid. I too live in norther Mi. tight lines Man.
Good video man, you found the crappie hole!

great clip man thanks. Hey can you tell me what kind of lantern that is that you are using? Thanks
Thanks, Laz. That's a Coleman, white gas lantern. Cheers!
what lake where you fishing? great vid
Great vid pal, outta curiosity do you eat the fish you catch? (just curious)
You rock!Thanks for uploading.
We be scared as buggery to sit on that ice and fish it ahahah,Good one mate.
Do you prefer using these minnows over say a teardrop and spike? Just wondering
I might try this 2 rod setup seems pretty good
Where do people find areas of strong ice? Aren't they ever afraid of falling through thin ice without knowing?
Jixs 203 I live in Minnesota and ice can get up to 2 feet where I live. The ice only needs to be 4in deep to walk on so in most cases it is pretty safe to walk on ice. But always bring ice picks just in case.
the lantern is attracting them. that's an effective trick for crappie.
Derek Benson we should share..because...we help each other...
I'm live I texas and we do a lot of night fishing. At A lot of the popular lakes people have green lights on their docks just for that reason. It's fun at night!!

Very clear cam you're using. What kind is this?I would like to use this when I'm fishing as well.
A crappie is a type of panfish common in the US. Not related to the carp, no.
The camera is a Gopro Hero 2. They are great. Well worth the $!
I think it's in the sunfish family as well
Jake Dassan actually sunfish originated from crappie so technically sunfish are in the crappy family
Jacob Solt *crappie
Nice fish catching.i wish to catch some fish like you are.
I have to say.. that looks like tons of fun.
Oh it is! So is the eating afterward :)
The Consummate Sportsman you had to go and make me hungry!! Haha. Good stuff!!
nice video, never watched ice fishing before, looks cool!
Coming from OZ, ice fishing is totally alien to me. I've heard a few dudes get killed each year, same as the rock fishing in OZ, but must admit, our fish tend to be just that bit bigger
Wow... thats some fast action.. Nice Vid...
wow you had a good bite going there, ice to see. Was that a back bay? or a main lake?
This was a back bay.
Really small crappies , but a lot of action, looks like fun to me.
Michael Hutchison alot of small crappies can actually fill you up if u cook all of em
Sounds tasty for me tbh :P

Nice vid! Nothing better than a crappy fry!
Yo the beginning tripped me out man
That looked fun as hell JB, how deep were ya gettin' them?
13' of water, about half way down.
just wondering, do you eat the fish you throw off to the side and if so why do you need so many
They're delicious in a light coating of beer batter. I kept enough for 2 meals for my family and me.
Nice man, I just caught 2 nice rainbow trout a few hours ago. A great day for all (:
What is the name of the lake? Good video : )

nice man
Good vid, ill be going out this week .Thanks again .
whats the limit per day?
Is there just a billion crappie up north lol ? We have many in texas
Well it seems you did not need the heater, all that movement should have kept you warm enough. Good job
How thick does the ice have to be to start drillin holes in it?
At least 6 in.
2-3
Great fun,I love it when the bite is on :-) Thanks for sharing :-)
That was really exciting.
little ones taste great but man they are a pain in the ass to fillet
Wow looks like a good day fishing.
What lake is this on? i live in michigan and it looks framiliar
dude you had a pretty crappie day!!
How did you keep your bobbers from freezing up?
I'd just clear the ice off the bobber on occasion. It wasn't all that cold either.
Gotcha. Slip bobbers seem to be ok for warmer weather, on the ice. When it's really cold the ice buster is probably the way to go. Great Video!!!
Nice craaaaps!
Nice
does the lamp attract them?
Anyone know why he threw the fish back in like was it poisonous or something or he felt bad for them?
Too small to easily fillet.
a young one??
The ones that you trow back are they to small or female ?
Too small
ReptileGuy239 Which is relative because I thought they were all way too small. But it depends on where you are from I suppose.
Patrick Murphy well he is fishing for black crappies they dont get big to what u might think.
+dukeofnuke55 idk where this is but I caught 2 black crappies over 13 inches this year in new york
