Oh well! Glad there's someone from the west side uploading awesome video's and who is personable enough to reply to his followers.. keep up the great videos!
One of my favorite videos. Nice job running 9 lines from a small boat. Looks like the wonder bread jplug was a stud! Those were some nice size kings. Let's hope Lake Michigan gets back to that quality of fishing soon.
I have never seen a coho that big in my life...The one's we get here are about 14-18 inchs and not close to that fat...Got to love those doubles...Looked like a great day to be out brother...Lots of action...Great video...
Sweet, great video! Amazing you're running 6 rods off that boat. Do you ever get tangled lines? I just got a used 16 foot spectrum with a 75hp, so hopefully I'll be able to go for some Kings off the California coast next summer. I can't wait.
Thanks Tyler. That's a tough question to answer without a little more detail. Which rods are you wondering about? Downrigger, dipsy, long lines, etc...?
The Consummate Sportsman Oh ya, sorry that would help. Mainly curious about the dipsy and downrigger rods. I'm from UT but have spent a little time in Michigan, so this great lakes trolling is all new to me.
They're specialty rods made for their given application by daiwa. The model is "Heartland". They make downrigger and dipsy rods specifically for those uses.
4 boards with copper lines, 2 wire diver rods, 2 riggers, one stacked, the other with a free slider. Spoons, plugs, and spin doctors/flies all caught fish. Only standard sized spoons went. Mags weren't touched at all.
6 is a breeze! In this vid I was actually running 9 :) In MI, you're allowed 3 lines per man. I run weighted lines off planer boards way off the sides, then dipsys and downriggers in tight to the boat. Sometimes I'll tangle with a really hot fish, but it's pretty rare.
Lead core with the wonderbread plug? Or what were you running it on? Ran mine on 7 colors of 832 down in fairport with no luck. Spoons and the bicep killing 10 color was the trick on my boat that day.
thenorthwoodsFH by the looks of it they were in Frankford I forgot the marina name but there is something in the water called "the hole" its basiclly at the bottom its 250 feet of water they are at the edges of it I think
I was the inventor of farm raising and release of salmon fingerlings with the DNR It looks like its caught on good now. Of course I also invented hook and line fishing altogether with my friend in the late 1950s
How many rods are you guys allowed to fish per person down there? What kind of rod/reel combos do you use? I remember seeing a video you put out I think but cant find it again..
We're allowed 3 rods per person in MI waters. My combos vary based on their application. As a general rule, I use Penn, Daiwa, and Shimano reels. For rods I like Okuma for copper, Gander Mtn for leadcore, and Daiwa for riggers/divers.
Hey guys! You have some awesome videos! I love watching them. I was curious as to what kind of GoPro mount you use on the front of your boat? The one that is up in the air looking back towards all the rods. My dad and me have a 22' big lake fishing boat and love to fish for lakers, coho's, kings, browns, and rainbows. We live in the U.P. of MI and have a few great harbors within 15 miles. Saxon Harbor, WI and Black River Harbor in MI. Keep up the great videos!!
The gopro is set on top of an extendable painters stick that I bought at the local hardware store. Just set it into a piece of PVC mounted to the console, and bungee it into place. Very easy to do, and slick! Provides some great footage. Thanks for watching!
Thumb up even though you're wearing a State shirt. ;) This is the kind of stuff I miss about MI. Thanks for reminders of home. Now if i could just get some cherries...
Subscribed!...Nice video, looked like a good time! I've watched several of your vids - good stuff. If possible, would you do a vid about your boat an some of the gear on it? Looks like you've arrived at a great system and I'm curious to hear how you got there and what you might choose differently now. We caught half dozen nice walleyes on the St. Clair river today. Can't wait to cook some up! Where are you based out of?
The Consummate Sportsman Love to see it have a new Boat on the way i love your videos, were heading out to fish on a small charter out of sturgeon Bay this coming weekend.
I know exactly where they are lol. They are at Frankford around the whole. They are in about 160 feet of water maybe. I dont think they are in the whole but I know they are in Frankford
We really don't have many of them around anymore. In the spring there's a few to be had, but not like it used to be in the early 2000's- they were everywhere back then.
The Consummate Sportsman they are pretty abundant in the south as I have caught a couple of nice browns off the Sheboygan pier biggest being 21 pounds I know you can also troll drop offs or simply fish river mouths for them I’m not sure in the north end but the south is pretty stocked
do you guys have a lowrance hds 8 or 10? got mine 2 years ago and it seems like it isnt marking fish right. i fish out of grand haven and in the channel the screen is always loaded with blobs and markings, if you know how to fix this can you respond. thanks
On all of the public waters of Michigan, those persons in the act of fishing shall be restricted to using no more than 3 single lines or 3 single rods and lines, and shall not attach more than six hooks total on all lines.
Oh well! Glad there's someone from the west side uploading awesome video's and who is personable enough to reply to his followers.. keep up the great videos!

Wow, that is crazy amount of lines! Must take a bit to get all those lines out. Great video again!
You dont need to set the hook! lol The fish are so big this year its amazing. Here out of Holland we are having the same thing. Good video!!!
I have never seen a coho that big in my life...The one's we get here are about 14-18 inchs and not close to that fat...Got to love those doubles...Looked like a great day to be out brother...Lots of action...Great video...
Awesome video JB..some nice double headers...loved the singing of the drag..minty.!!!

The cohos are big over here in Wi this year as well. Keep up the good work!!!
Hi just watched your vid what kind of rod holders do you use?i like that you pull up to vertical and take the rod out sweet
Great job guys!! I'll be in the streams up there in 4 weeks!! Can't wait!! I hope to meet you guys some day. I also fish Frankfort too.
Man I am happy for you guys. Nice job JB

Bet their arms were sore after all those fish! Smiles all round, well done JB! ATB.
Do you run any charters? I'm just south of you in Grand Haven and i'd love for a trip!
Another fine video from "The Consummate Sportsman"
We new to salmon fishing so sorry about this stupid question but do u set the hook with downriggers we fish dipsys a lot so ya
What kind of rod holders are u using for your dipsys as I love the way they move and release
This is just one of your awesome fishing videos, good work man. I was just curious, what power/action rods do you use?
Thanks Tyler. That's a tough question to answer without a little more detail. Which rods are you wondering about? Downrigger, dipsy, long lines, etc...?

Do you have a trolling plate on your motor? Whats your speed?
I would have liked to have seen that cat. Good video like always, keep up the awesome work! (:

+Josh “The 906 Angler” Borgen That one was 300' copper
I haven't gotten into the copper yet, but I hear its deadly. Thanks!
this was awesome! what marina was this out of? Back in august me and a buddy landed a 31lb king out of Muskegon in about 80ft water.
Tight Lines!
thenorthwoodsFH by the looks of it they were in Frankford I forgot the marina name but there is something in the water called "the hole" its basiclly at the bottom its 250 feet of water they are at the edges of it I think
thenorthwoodsFH I caught a 21 pound king
How many dam poles can you run in the great lakes?
Pretty sure as many as you can
Three Rods per licensed fishermen
WOW!!! bad enough with two [people, two rods and you get a double. Must be nuts when you get a quad or better.
Paul Newman bruh we had 7 running at once
Missing fishing for kings already lol! All we can do is wait for next summer... Hopefully there's more quantity!!
I was the inventor of farm raising and release of salmon fingerlings with the DNR It looks like its caught on good now. Of course I also invented hook and line fishing altogether with my friend in the late 1950s
Have you been to the frankfort tackle box this year?
Do you catch and release or grill em up?

+Bob bobbysan Right. 3 men 3 lines each equals nine lines which is what they are using.
It would be a challenge on jet ski... and FUN!
StrongOutdoors they would prob pull you off the jet ski tbh cause you dont have enough footing
