What !? I remember there was an app that allowed net play on certain emulators. There was always people down to play Super Bomberman 2 (Or Tetris Attack) and I loved it. Bomberman games are great fun with friends especially if you can get 3 other people to play.
The games were fun in itself. It's a shame Super Bomberman 3-5 never left Japan, but had a plus playing the sequels on Emulators. I never new there was a Genesis Bomberman game which blew my mind! It looked fun was well. Another great episode!
these dudes are the last one of a kind youtubers, with amazing content that i honestly wait to watch, such a great channel, such fun and such good karma.
- Super Bomberman vs. Mega Bomberman - Super Turrican vs. Mega Turrican You just gotta love that little details when it comes to old classic Nintendo vs. Sega rivalry. You just can't make it more "VS." then having "Super vs. Mega" in the games titles.
This was an unfair comparison. Mega Bomberman was a 1995 game with multiple titles before it to iterate upon. Super Bomberman 1 was a 1993 game, of course it was simpler. A fairer episode would’ve been Mega Bomberman vs Super Bomberman 2 (1994) for SNES. They’re both closer to each other’s launch. Comparing these two was like comparing Mortal Kombat 3 on Genesis vs Mortal Kombat 1 on SNES.
Really happy to see Mega Bomberman win this one since I played that game a lot back in the day. The blue louie was always my favourite since you can briefly stun your opponents on battle mode if a bomb it kicks lands on them
Love this channel so much. It's one of the few youtubers that actually make actual content and not just rubbish that has to come out daily or once a week.
@@ConsoleWars Your welcome. I actually wanted to do entertaining content like this tho im camera shy but can act ironically but youtube is very intimidating for newcomers to get their foot in. But if you strike gold with that one thing you have to keep on doing it which is kinda sad. In some of my other favourite youtubers I always give encouragement that they can be free to try other styles or one game series specific channel can talk about others.
"Some stages on Sega go well beyond one screen!" Uh, so did the Super Nintendo version... *The sequel* Oh. "Check out the Game Over screens. On Sega, you see Bomberman all bandaged up." Uh, in the Super Nintendo version, he's like a broken robot about to shut down permanently. *That's the sequel* Oh. "You dont have to destroy all the enemies. Instead you have to destroy these keys." You did the same thing in the Super Nintendo version. *In the sequel* Ughhh.... "The BEST exclusive item: A Louie!" Louies are also- *IN THE SEQUEL* DAMNIT!!
Bomberman is one of my favorite franchises, mainly because it is so approachable by novice or non-gamers. IMO, Mega Bomberman story mode is the best of the 16-bit era... but... Super Bomberman 4 & 5 have the best battle modes hands down, making them the best party games.
Super Bomberman 4 i'd disagree, due to slowdowns that are a lot more present with all 5 players, and also, the movement is not quite fluid. Super Bomberman 5 improves over this and balances the mechanucs better than super 4 does. Although Bomberman '94 (also known as Mega bomberman and bomberman '08) is my favorite, it has less content, but it still feels smoother to move bomberman there. When i consider this, i'd Super Bomberman 5 and Bomberman '94/Mega Bomberman are the best options for battle mode for their time.
You should have compared the Sega one with Super Bomberman 3. SMB3 could be considered as a Bomberman 94' port, so it is very similar to Mega Bomberman.
It's not. I have no idea what happened when porting to the SNES, but somehow it seems it could not handle the animation so they left the scrolling out. Even the MD is having a hard time to cope with all the little details that happened on Bomberman 94, so they left out half of the animations. At least the MD version scrolls.
Graphics have a slight edge on Genesis. The presentation has more in the Genesis game. Both games have their own unique styles of sound. Tie. Gameplay is just fine no matter which game you play. Tie. Sega has a slight edge in graphics and presentation. Both have good sound and gameplay in their own ways. Sega wins, but both are good ones. Super Street Fighter 2 is next.
As a kid I used to keep on renting Mega Bomberman all the time constantly going through the campaign and inviting my longtime best friend to play multiplayer. The kangaroo louie on the UK Megadrive boxart got me screaming for hype "I can ride an adorable kangaroo and kickass... THIS IS MY DREAM!" I ended up buying Mega Bomberman cus i rented it so much, I also got Super Bomberman 1 and 2 which are great games to. I remember getting angry when my UK gaming mag mentioned the other awesome SNES sequels that I never got to play, then years later the emulator scene got popular and I fucking played the shiiiiit out of the SNES sequels at home or at school multiplayer.
I feel like the better comparison would have been Mega Bomberman and Super Bomberman 3,4, &5. Granted, Super Bomberman 3 -5 didn't come out in the USA, so I can see why you didn't compare them, but Mega Bomberman/Bomberman 94 & Super Bomberman 3-5 were all done in the same style. I absolutely love Super Bomberman 3-5 purely for the multiplayer battle mode. While Super Bomberman 1&2 may look and sound better, The level design in single player mode was much better in Super Bomberman 3-5 and the battlemode was epic (blowing away Super Bomber man and Mega Bomberman's battle mode).
Super Bomberman 3 did come out in PAL regions, I played the crap out of it. So that one at least is available in English and would have been a better comparison.
Don’t have to go that far. Just Super Bomberman 2 would’ve been already a better choice for this episode, especially because it released closer to Mega Bomberman and it actually got an English release.
Even though I liked Super Bomberman 3-5, I missed the bigger, multi-screen levels of Super Bomberman 2. I know single screen levels are kind of a Bomberman tradition, but I think the Bomberman games that have bigger levels show a little more variety.
Oh wow... after roughly 25 years I hear a few notes of the Mega Bomberman soundtrack again and instantly start humming the songs. I absolutely loved that game, even though the multiplayer killed one or two friendships. Thanks for this awesome Console Wars episode! It brought back many long lost memories.
Having Bobcat as Meta Knight cracked me up. I saw Mega Bomberman at a local game store fairly recently. I should've grabbed it. Thanks for continuing to make awesome content!
I love that the "newest" console wars episode in the playlist is NOT the Bomberman episode, but instead a recap of the NY Giants' first round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft XD
Really liked Mega Bomberman as a kid! Placed my bets on this one, though in my opinion, MB wins in the graphics department as well for its more "Bomberman-y" cartoon look and more vibrant color besides what was mentioned. Glad that you're still around and posting top quality content as ever!
Man, you guys are a breath of fresh air, a call back to the old days of TH-cam and retro game scene. Glad you guys are still making content. No clickbait, no algorithm chasing thumbnails and titles... Just buddies makin funny videos.
Saturn Bomberman is actually a different bomberman game, but from what i heard, it was going to be a remake of Bomberman '94/Mega Bomberman, but eventually became a different (but also really great) bomberman game.

You guys are funny AF, so entertaining, Console Wars should have 1,000,000 subs easy! OK, ARE WE DOOOIN THIS!!?. . . .BTW, Dan, your Nirvana covers are awesome, you're a really talented singer and player.
I personally think a better comparison would have been Super Bomberman 2 as it was released around the same time so it had many improvement in the single player mode.
Awesome and super funny as always! You guys make my day I feel blessed to have your content available to enrich so many people's lives. Thank you so much for your work🍻
Another good video to the series. The bits at the start and end of the video really do well comedy wise and the layout for your own Bomber Man level was a nice detail to things. Good work as ever.
And I have to say it would have been fairer to compare SB3 and MB, because they're closer games at gameplay and graphics. I know the third SB was released in Europe, but... Anyway, a good episode as always
Love how you attempted to settle this with a real life Bomberman battle, and both of you used your best features to try and finish each other off. As for the rest of you, don't try this at home.
I finally got around to watching this. Great episode guys. Personally my exposure to "Bomberman" was in an commercial for one of his games either on Playstation or N64, which also had a reworking of the "Spider-Man" theme song. Also really got a kick out of the "Kirby" trailer, you celebrity impressions were really good here. Even though I haven't really played much "Bomberman", I think we can agree on one thing, both these games were way better than "Bomberman: Act Zero". LOL
Even if I have a softer spot for Super Bomberman 1, I placed my bets for Mega Bomberman in that episode. :P While SB1 is a more accessible game difficulty-wise, and the co-op mode is a sweet addition...MB has more features, more variety, and the multiplayer AI isn't stupidly dumb. ...oh...and btw : Super Bomberman 1 actually has an intro...in the Japanese version. It's still available in the Western releases, but for some reason...the game will never show it normally. You need to enter a Pro Action Replay code to watch it. :/
lol omg jap super bomberman has an intro so that evens up the odds. never knew that. thats cool. and besides the other bombermans get better and are better on the snes. sadly all jap exclusives tho after bomberman 2. and the gameplay is simple in every bomberman game. exception being bomberman 64 and those games on nintendo 64. so thats kinda biased. mega bomber is a port of turbografx game. which was epic. played both and love both tho so im sure if snes got it it can do the same if given the chance..
@@Diddy64wii ya i heard about that. wish it got released for usa too. since that was when the series got a design overhaul and took more elements from bomberman 94 n mega. with included the louies. just amazing on snes. we got our turbo port at least lol. sad i only learned of it years later on emulation. that game would have been a much more fair comparison in this video.
Mega Bomberman is a port of a PC Engine game, Bomberman 94, and it's actually better on the PC Engine (like it has 5 player multiplayer instead of 4 players like on the SNES and Mega Drive). So I wouldn't say mega bomberman is unique, because it looks and plays exactly like the PC Engine version. It's just a port. Not its own game.
I did enjoy Super Bomberman 1 & 2 but once Mega Bomberman released I honestly never went back to playing SB 1 or 2. With that said I do prefer Bomberman 94 on the PC Engine which Mega Bomberman was ported from as it has better graphics, graphical effects (see underwater stage), colors & none of the slowdown found in Mega Bomberman. For this comparison Mega Bomberman wins. Just my opinion
Here's a suggestion for another Console Wars episode. It would be interesting to see you two do a 32-bit and 64-bit game for change. Fighting Vipers for the Sega Saturn vs Mace: The Dark Age for the Nintendo 64
?? from what I remember Bomberman offers his Rooi a ride on the jet and Rooi shakes his head like "I aint gettin' on no plane" and then the ending continues as normal, love that ending music though, it's got that Japanese/rave thing going on like Shinobi
Going to have to disagree on the graphics. I admit that Super technically has more detail, but that doesn't mean it's good looking detail. To me it comes off a bit over done, like some of the CGI turned sprite attempts from the late 4th and early 5th gens. I think Mega's clean pixel graphics actually look way more appealing, and the stage variety and design just blows super's basic grid rooms away as far as visually interesting elements go.
It's been such a long time since I've seen a video like this, and even longer since I've seen a GOOD one. Very informative and chill, most importantly great comparison, nothing overly negative or nitpicky. Great video!
You guys are so super talented! Those impressions are really good! Mega Bomberman is a port of Bomberman 94 for TurboGrafx-16. Those are obviously not the 2 systems this series compares, but it would have made far more sense to compare those. Perhaps when you've done all of the SNES & Genesis comparisons you can compare other consoles? I'd love to see that, as there are many more possibilities. Master System vs. NES, Game Boy vs. Game Gear and Atari 2600 vs. Intellivision are just a few examples that would be great (although that last one would no doubt result in much shorter videos as there would obviously be less to talk about.)
It would have been total unfair. BM94 is the best Bomberman ever. It is just perfect. More colours, way better animation with tons of little details added, and the OST is bonkers. The MD soundtrack is very limited in comparison.
@@2kBofFun the snes bombermans are epic. especially the later games. the genesis did well considering its sucessor on the turbografx. its a decent port. its great but i think saturn bomberman takes the title for the best 90s bomberman game. but i still enjoy the games on other consoles like turbo and snes and genesis. even the handheld gba ones are pretty neat.
@@ssppeeaarr The Snes versions were prety bad. Ugly graphics, no scrolling worlds, so-so music. Saturn Bomberman is just very very similar to BM94, as if Hudson finally agreed on a decent non PCE version after the demise of the platform. It is in no way better. Well ok, the bass sound is fuller and deeper, but on the other hand the music is a little less catchy and the unicorn hamsters are a strange offspring to the kangeroos in BM94. And the 10 player battle? Come on, who has 9 friends to play with? And the tiny sprites and lack of atmosphere ruin the battle experience.
@@2kBofFun abit biased for the turbogfx bomberman. which is fine. its a an epic game. lol. but to put down the snes games is dishonest! with super bomberman 3 on snes actually taking more influence from the turbo and mega bomberman. it had the intros. after stage animations. and even had the louies and had graphical downgrade to fit those games aesthetic. i prefer the look of super bomberman and 2. but super bomberman 3 that particular game would have been more fair to use in this console war vid. its basically snes port of bomberman 94. showin that stuff can be done on snes as well. and also the tunes from all snes bombermans are catchy and great. they suite the game worlds and set the atmosphere. u prob just hate snes bro. lol. and saturn bomberman which is considered by many fans of the series to be the best iteration of the genre. the iconic intro movie and music. the graphics are gorgeous. the stages are amazing and have extended parts have amazing animations. the music is atmospheric to each world. the samurai world for example. then the louies are absent here but instead we get dino like louies. which is cool dare say better then louies. lmao. its not a deal breaker. but they have similar powers so its not that a big deal. also something i enjoy'd was the master mode. also bomberman is dress like goku. lol its epic. but ya to each his own. i have tons of fav bomberman games. its hard to pick one as best of em all. but saturn bomber is deff in top 3. along with bomberman 94 and dreamcast bomberman.
First off, I absolutely loved this episode Bomberman is a character not a lot of people talk about anymore. Also I got a couple requests for future episodes which I haven't been doing in some time. Just don't be surprised how long this list got. 1. Rampage NES vs SMS 2. The Simpsons: Virtual Bat SNES vs Sega Genesis 3. The Simpsons: Krusty's Fun House SNES vs Sega Genesis 4. The Simpsons: The Itchy & Scratchy Game on SNES vs Bart vs the Space Mutants on Sega Genesis 5. The Terminator SNES vs Sega Genesis 6. Terminator 2: Judgment Day SNES vs Sega Genesis 7. Jurassic Park 2 on SNES vs Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition on Sega Genesis 8. The Pirates of Dark Water SNES vs Sega Genesis 9. Mega Man X on SNES vs Ranger X on Sega Genesis 10. Mega Man 7 on SNES vs Mega Man: The Wily Wars on Sega Genesis 11. Hagane on SNES vs Shinobi III on Sega Genesis 12. Knights of the Round on SNES vs Golden Axe on Sega Genesis 13. Super Caesars Palace on SNES vs Caesars Palace on Sega Genesis 14. Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures SNES vs Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on Sega Genesis 15. Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety SNES vs Sega Genesis 16. Spider-Man and The X-Men in Arcade's Revenge SNES vs Sega Genesis 17. Bubsy II SNES vs Sega Genesis 18. Road Rash Game Boy vs Game Gear 19. Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Game Boy vs Game Gear 20. Mighty Morhpin' Power Rangers: The Movie Game Boy vs Game Gear 21. Mortal Kombat Game Boy vs Game Gear 22. Mortal Kombat II Game Boy vs Game Gear 23. Mortal Kombat 3 Game Boy vs Game Gear 24. Primal Rage Game Boy vs Game Gear 25. The Ren & Stimpy Show: Space Cadet Adventures on Game Boy vs Quest for the Shaven Yak starring Ren & Stimpy on Game Gear 26. Dr. Mario on Game Boy vs Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on Game Gear
GameBoy and GameGear..? An interesting thought. But imagine capturing those games on the original hardware! That sounds like a pain. And, that monstrous beast called the GameGear devours batteries. Also, I don't know a lot about most of these games, but I really don't think MM7 vs. Wily Wars is a fair comparison, as one of them is another mainline entry, while the other is a compilation of remakes with a few extra levels thrown in.
Many people who come across Mega Bomberman should try Bomberman '94 for turbografix 16/PC Engine, why? Here's the thing: Mega Bomberman is a port of Bomberman '94 to Sega Genesis, Bomberman '94 has far superior sound effects over sega genesis and graphics that are more detailed compared to all SNES bomberman games, moving bomberman in Bomberman '94 has never felt smoother, Bomb Kicking also feels a lot smoother than snes titles. However, as much as bomberman '94 is my favorite and one of the best bomberman games ever made, it has one flaw that got fixed in the Sega Genesis version: Remote Control, Kick Stop and Louie Action are all binded into one button due to controller limitations, why is most likely the reason a dancing pink Louie exists. I understand the goal of the channels is usually Sega Genesis VS. Super Nintendo, but for this specific case of Mega Bomberman, you guys need to check out the original version (Bomberman '94). Even though, great job on bringing both games up.
back in the day at a local rental store people could rent this game with the Multi Tap Also. i would rent this along with Tiny Toon's Sport's to have a good time with my friends.
Something I appreciate about Console Wars compared to AVGN is how they actually look at the games. Like the biggest example is Castlevania how the AVGN was already biased towards Super Castlevania compared to how Console Wars looked at both.
Well James does admit that he has the most sentimental value for the SNES since that's what he had as a kid. It's largely why I prefer the Genesis. I don't remember him making any videos that were supposed to be unbiased comparisons of games on different systems, so I don't see it as a big deal.
@@chitlitlah Actually his SNES vs Genesis vídeo is umbiased since SNES is a better console. About Castlevania he just had preference for one game over the other.
@@josemarques131 Nah. For example, he dismisses BlastProcessing as pure marketing, ignoring that in fact Genesis games tend to have better framerate and more sprites in screen at once. The term is marketing, of course, but there was a tangible advantage of being a faster console overall behind that, and that's what Sega wanted to highlight with the advertisement. Not understanding something so simple shows a little fan blindness from AVGN in my opinion.
@@pepegrillo9722 I find that fan biased beliefs that Genesis has better performance kinda funny lol for sure come from people that don't know much and learn about videogames in sega fan channels though.
Could you imagine Pat and Dan covering Bombergirl? (Yeah, that one.) Still a good episode, with a comeback for Sega after the last episode... hope the upcoming _Super Street Fighter II_ episode does just as well, if not better (assuming we are talking baseline cartridges and not the romhack for the Genesis version.)
If you play the PC Engine Original (PS3 Japan Only - use save state) of Mega Bomberman (Bomberman 94) there were Original Soundtrack (only stage 1 and stage 2) and some cut contents from different region (mostly cutscenes with other Bomberman featuring and showing the planet during final boss 3rd phases), stage select and ending Also haven’t mentioned about The European/PAL Box cover of Super Bomberman & Mega Bomberman
10:20 that first bit was the original music for Bomerman 94's Jammin Jungle. For whatever reason, the music on Jammin Jungle and Vexin Volcano were changed when it was ported from PCE.. the music on Mega Bomberman is still entirely better than Super Bomberman, though.
Great video as always! Your skits are always top notch! Kevin Conroy as Kirby is amazing! One thing I'd like to see in the future, is for you guys to normalize your audio. Different scenes had different volume levels. If you guys could fix that in the future, things would be perfect! ❤️
@@ConsoleWars When you're editing your videos, see if you can find an option to normalize the audio. That basically brings audio peaks down and valleys up. Making the volume more consistent. A better microphone would be great, but the issue I'm talking about is purely with editing. Content is amazing regardless though.
Bomberman 94/Mega Bomberman is often regarded among the top Hudson era games alongside Saturn Bomberman and Bomberman 2 for DS. I'd say all it's missing is a coop mode.
I'm still an active Bomberman player, I have played their games for years and I can say that currently my favorite Bomberman games are Bomberman 1 for NES, Super Bomberman 1 for SNES, Bomberman 1991 for TGX-16 (knowing in Europe as DynaBlaster) and Neo Bomberman for Neo Geo/Arcade, the reason is because these are the least stylized games on the franchise, but I feel that minimalism is precisely what touches up the most in the charm of the playable base without much added, in addition to the fact that its semi-3D rustic lookin style is very nostalgic for me.
Growing up, I always saw Mega Bomberman on store shelves in every store that sold Genesis games. It's weird that I never see the game in retro game stores nowadays. There were a ton of them, where did they all go?
When they don't compare the right games. Compare Super Bomberman 3 with Mega bomberman, they be almost identical art style but different games. Also about Super Bomberman Final Boss has 2 phases and the final Phase if he runs over you you die aswell
Played a ton of Super Bomberman as a kid. Never knew Mega Bomberman existed, and I was a Sega kid at one point.. You can really see how Mega Bomberman influences Saturn Bomberman, probably the best one.
Dan, that Ray Ramano impression was just too much lmao I think that the SNES cover art Bomberman deserves some Big Chungus meme fame. Come on internet, help him out!
TH-cam recommended me this video and I'm loving these guys. Nintendo vs sega. Which game is better? Interesting concept and I love the little skits even though they are cheesy. I wanna see more
I've always liked the battle mode in Super Bomberman 1 more than 2 as the gloves in 2 made it allot more unbalanced in my opinion. However the story mode in Super Bomberman 2 is allot more fun even though it's only single player.
So I'm watching this episode with my good friend from childhood who had Super Bomberman. He was somewhat accepting that the Genesis was better but then asked me "how do they determine a winner if both games won 2 categories each?" My response was "They use a point system. 5 for Graphics, 5 for Presentation, 10 for Sound and 15 for Gameplay" Now I don't know if that's how exactly yall do it but it does make more sense that way lol
@@ConsoleWars Seriously, you guys have become my favorite YT series. I love the time and effort you put into each episode, I love that every episode has a story, and I love the recurring characters and in-jokes. You guys are great!
Good episode, favorite part has to be the ending battle. A bit of a closer battle than I would've thought, I guess super bomberman did have some things that gave mega bomberman a run for its money. It's been a while since I last commented because I didn't really have any suggestions, but this time I came up with a few - Art of Fighting (SNES vs. Genesis) - World Heroes (SNES vs. Genesis) - Death and Return of Superman (SNES vs. Genesis) - There are enough Spider-man games for at least 3 episodes with Spider-Man (based on the animated series), Spider-Man and Venom: Separation Anxiety, and Spider-Man: Lethal Foes (SNES) vs. Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin/Spider-Man (Genesis) - I also had an idea for a series similar to What's the Difference? called Console Wars: Pocket, where you could breifly look at comparable games from competing handheld systems outside the typical formula. This could be a solution to the issue of covering Gameboy vs. Game Gear games, where you could explicitly leave out the graphics comparison.
Mega Bomberman is really hard to find... Besides it is the only Bomberman game on Genesis. It may compare better with Super Bomberman 3 or 4, and man, these games beautiful. Nothing impossible for Genesis, Hudson sadly didn't love Sega that much.
The best one is DynaBlaster! I remember I played that when I was a kid, really fun, on the Amiga. Today I have Mega Bomberman, but I have not played it much, but it seems like a very good game.
@@hubtubby Cool, it was my big brothers Amiga, there are some games I remember better than others, like Superfrog, Cannon Fodder, Pang, Super Skidmarks, Blues Brothers, a lot of games when I try to think about it actually, oh, Golden Axe I remember I really liked. Good times!
Whoa, Sega's on a roll lately! Was not expecting a Kirby movie sketch to begin with but it segued into the main part of the video very smoothly. My friend had a copy of Super Bomberman 1 back in the day and I remember enjoying Battle Mode a lot. You're right that the i-frames after respawning were ridiculous though. No wonder I didn't notice most of the sequels, since they weren't released here in the West. I'd forgotten Mega Bomberman ever existed and maybe didn't even notice it at the time, but you guys made a great case for the core 1-player campaign being light years ahead of the Nintendo version. Can hardly wait for the next episode!
Another suggestion, I'd like to draw your attention to a game with an interesting backstory: Jim Power. Originally a Commodore Amiga game, it officially had an SNES version (that I have played on the original hardware). There was a Genesis version in development, but wasn't finished... until recently. Piko Interactive bought the rights to it, and after some modifications, have been working on re-releasing it on various platforms. And there's music by Chris Hülsbeck. I can give more info if you are interested.
@@ConsoleWars They have made an "enhanced" SNES version as well, which would probably be the fairer comparison. Though I admit, getting your hands on those cartridges may not be so easy. I _think_ those games may be included in the Steam version, but that's not the same as using the actual consoles. I know that a lot of the games that you compare are donated. I _might_ look into getting those cartridges myself, _maybe,_ but, as someone who doesn't own those consoles yet, no promises.
That's a shame. Piko Interactive is a horrid company that just plops products down with no care. Take note of their Glover "remaster" that released on steam last month for example.
@@cloudseven9041 Hey, they had an NES version of Jim Power built from scratch, and it looks fantastic. And someone who reviewed their Genesis cartridge version of that game said that it was designed properly, so as not to damage the cartridge slot. That said, I'm sure there may be some inconsistencies in quality from one product to another.
I found it kind of unfair to compare with the first Super Bomberman which is an older game, it would be fairer comparing with Super Bomberman 2 or 3 here since these games have the same level of gameplay if not even better. (After all, Mega Bomberman is just a port of Bomberman 94 from Turbografx and with some downgrades on top of that)
I never played a Bomberman game in my life, but had a lot of fun making this episode!

"Some stages on Sega go well beyond one screen!"
Uh, so did the Super Nintendo version...
*The sequel*
Oh.
"Check out the Game Over screens. On Sega, you see Bomberman all bandaged up."
Uh, in the Super Nintendo version, he's like a broken robot about to shut down permanently.
*That's the sequel*
Oh.
"You dont have to destroy all the enemies. Instead you have to destroy these keys."
You did the same thing in the Super Nintendo version.
*In the sequel*
Ughhh....

DAMNIT!!
looks like you two had a BLAST, what an EXPLOSIVE duel that can set the crowd ABLAZE....and definitely NOT formulaic at all!
I feel like if Graphics & Presentation were combined into a single category, many of the wins would shift across both systems.
although genesis music really sucks. if it had the snes great tunes, it would be awesome
As a kid I used to keep on renting Mega Bomberman all the time constantly going through the campaign and inviting my longtime best friend to play multiplayer. The kangaroo louie on the UK Megadrive boxart got me screaming for hype "I can ride an adorable kangaroo and kickass... THIS IS MY DREAM!"
I ended up buying Mega Bomberman cus i rented it so much, I also got Super Bomberman 1 and 2 which are great games to. I remember getting angry when my UK gaming mag mentioned the other awesome SNES sequels that I never got to play, then years later the emulator scene got popular and I fucking played the shiiiiit out of the SNES sequels at home or at school multiplayer.
That was the first time I'd ever seen the US boxart for the mega drive version. The UK definitely got the better version on that one.
I’m with you. My wife and I still enjoy playing 3-5 and 94. They just have so much character.
Please a video of The Jungle Book SNES & Genesis
Oh wow... after roughly 25 years I hear a few notes of the Mega Bomberman soundtrack again and instantly start humming the songs. I absolutely loved that game, even though the multiplayer killed one or two friendships. Thanks for this awesome Console Wars episode! It brought back many long lost memories.
I never knew that there was a Bomberman game in the Sega Genesis. So this is new to me. Thank you for this informative video of the Bomberman series.
Having Bobcat as Meta Knight cracked me up. I saw Mega Bomberman at a local game store fairly recently. I should've grabbed it.
Thanks for continuing to make awesome content!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love that the "newest" console wars episode in the playlist is NOT the Bomberman episode, but instead a recap of the NY Giants' first round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft XD
Whoops. I'll fix that!
Dan it's not ever worth it to team up with Pastrami! You won't feel like a winner after his oily payment. Great episode!
Excellent episode! Dare I say it was a... BLAST to watch?
Genesis really wins overall, the real killer is the repetition and excessively simplistic nature of the SNES game.
Great episode as always!
Thanks!
Both games are real winners. Bomberman 4 President!
Yeah SNES version is a true classic nevertheless. And was my introduction to the franchise < 3

Really liked Mega Bomberman as a kid! Placed my bets on this one, though in my opinion, MB wins in the graphics department as well for its more "Bomberman-y" cartoon look and more vibrant color besides what was mentioned.

Interesting how the Saturn version keeps a lot of features from Genesis game.
Saturn Bomberman is actually a different bomberman game, but from what i heard, it was going to be a remake of Bomberman '94/Mega Bomberman, but eventually became a different (but also really great) bomberman game.
Not a port from PC, but from the PC-Engine.

Another great review guys! I think I'll join your patreon to see episodes a bit earlier than usual, they're that good!
Awesome thanks!
It's gotta feel like a mini vacation when the games are this different.
fun trivia. Mega bomber man for the genesis is a port of Bomberman 94 for the pc-engine
I personally think a better comparison would have been Super Bomberman 2 as it was released around the same time so it had many improvement in the single player mode.
The Kirby movie making fun of a different video game movie made me laugh but not as much as Sega's reaction to it. You guys rock.
I was just thinking yesterday when the next Console Wars episode was going to be and lo and behold here it is!
Great video as always!
Thanks bud!
I'm glad you guys pointed out the terrible music during Sega boss battles, it is distracting and semi painful during anotherwise awesome game
But wouldn't it be fairer to compare Mega Bomberman with Super Bomberman 2? Considering they were both released in 1994?
Exactly my thoughts
They tend to compare first with first, even when there is only one in a particular system
@@DGFTardin ah I hadn't realized that!
To be fair, Mega Bomberman is a port of Bomberman 94, which was released in 1993
Those games were donated to us so that's what we compared
Excellent vid! I still wait for Saturday Night Slam Masters, or 3 Ninjas Kick Back coverage!
Awesome and super funny as always! You guys make my day
I feel blessed to have your content available to enrich so many people's lives. Thank you so much for your work🍻
Thanks so much! We feel blessed when we get such nice comments!
Another good video to the series. The bits at the start and end of the video really do well comedy wise and the layout for your own Bomber Man level was a nice detail to things. Good work as ever.
Thank you!
Actually, the Super Bomberman has an introduction sequence, which was only available on the Japanese release for unknown reasons.
Good to know
And I have to say it would have been fairer to compare SB3 and MB, because they're closer games at gameplay and graphics. I know the third SB was released in Europe, but... Anyway, a good episode as always
@@jamesytez6639 They should, I also thought SB3 should been used in this episode since they used the same engine.
True
No.
Love how you attempted to settle this with a real life Bomberman battle, and both of you used your best features to try and finish each other off. As for the rest of you, don't try this at home.
I'm finally caught up. I've seen every episode from Aladdin to Bomberman, and I'm excited for the channel's future. Keep up the great work! 🎮
Yay!
LOL
That was the commercial for Bomberman 64.
I was worried you guys weren't going to mention the multiplayer modes on either game. That's what Bomberman is really known for.
Even if I have a softer spot for Super Bomberman 1, I placed my bets for Mega Bomberman in that episode. :P
While SB1 is a more accessible game difficulty-wise, and the co-op mode is a sweet addition...MB has more features, more variety, and the multiplayer AI isn't stupidly dumb.
...oh...and btw : Super Bomberman 1 actually has an intro...in the Japanese version.
It's still available in the Western releases, but for some reason...the game will never show it normally. You need to enter a Pro Action Replay code to watch it. :/
Yeah, there are also censorships and color/sprite differences. If you're playing Super Bomberman for Snes make sure it's the japanese version
lol omg jap super bomberman has an intro so that evens up the odds. never knew that. thats cool. and besides the other bombermans get better and are better on the snes. sadly all jap exclusives tho after bomberman 2. and the gameplay is simple in every bomberman game. exception being bomberman 64 and those games on nintendo 64. so thats kinda biased. mega bomber is a port of turbografx game. which was epic. played both and love both tho so im sure if snes got it it can do the same if given the chance..
@@ssppeeaarr The third Super Bomberman got a European release, but not in North America. I dunno why...
The right version definitely won. Mega Bomberman is only second to Saturn Bomberman.
I absolutely loved your episode! Excited to see Super Street Fighter II episode soon!
Glad you enjoyed it!
7:03 - the screens are swapped!
Yup. Somehow missed that
Surprised you didn't talk about the bonus ending you get if you keep a Louie through the final boss.
I did not know that. Guess I got beat the game again
That might be something cool for them to try on the livestream.
?? from what I remember Bomberman offers his Rooi a ride on the jet and Rooi shakes his head like "I aint gettin' on no plane" and then the ending continues as normal, love that ending music though, it's got that Japanese/rave thing going on like Shinobi
Thank you console wars for making such an amazing video if I probably ever suggested a game I would probably suggest flashback maybe
Glad you enjoyed it!
By the way, the original game, Bomberman '94 is for the PC Engine, not the PC. PC Engine is the Japanese Turbografx.
I know i know. I always do that
Hint: Super Street Fighter II on Genesis and SNES.
Genesis wins in cartridge size due to the mapper built-into the board, animation frames, number of voiceovers, and control layouts
Thanks for the video! I missed out on Bomberman during the 16-bit era, unfortunately.
Same. This was the first time i ever played a Bomberman game
Couldn't agree more
It would have been total unfair.

22:54 Look closely and you'll see the ends of the Louie egg before the block disappears.
I hope Kevin Conroy comes back to review Super Street Funky Bunch II - that impression was spot on.
There's something i forgot to mention about Bomberman '94's battle mode: the AI acts differently depending on the character it controls
back in the day at a local rental store people could rent this game with the Multi Tap Also. i would rent this along with Tiny Toon's Sport's to have a good time with my friends.
cool
Years in the damn making here! A Bomberman episode!!
@@josemarques131 I forgot he made that. It wasn't an AVGN episode though. Also, it's Genesis > Turbografx > SNES.
(Yeah, that one.)
Still a good episode, with a comeback for Sega after the last episode... hope the upcoming _Super Street Fighter II_ episode does just as well, if not better (assuming we are talking baseline cartridges and not the romhack for the Genesis version.)
you have just reminded me of bombergirl again and i will never forgive you
That CGI for the Kirby movie is INCREDIBLE! I would swear there's a physical object on the screen!! 😮
lol
If you play the PC Engine Original (PS3 Japan Only - use save state) of Mega Bomberman (Bomberman 94) there were Original Soundtrack (only stage 1 and stage 2) and some cut contents from different region (mostly cutscenes with other Bomberman featuring and showing the planet during final boss 3rd phases), stage select and ending
Also haven’t mentioned about The European/PAL Box cover of Super Bomberman & Mega Bomberman
I know it was meant as a joke, but Hollywood needs to greenlight that Kirby movie. It already looks much better than anything they would make.
Totally not formulaic!
I know. I'm so bad with the audio. The voiceovers and live stuff are different. I need a better mic for my camera
Dan, that Ray Ramano impression was just too much lmao
I think that the SNES cover art Bomberman deserves some Big Chungus meme fame. Come on internet, help him out!
TH-cam recommended me this video and I'm loving these guys. Nintendo vs sega. Which game is better? Interesting concept and I love the little skits even though they are cheesy. I wanna see more

An interesting choice with a great ending. Keep the WAR up!!!
WHAT?! THAT'S IT! Are we doing this?
Is another console wars episode on right now? Yes
Haha! That Bomberman battle at the end was amazing!
Thanks!
It's been a while since I last commented because I didn't really have any suggestions, but this time I came up with a few
- Art of Fighting (SNES vs. Genesis)
- World Heroes (SNES vs. Genesis)
- Death and Return of Superman (SNES vs. Genesis)
- There are enough Spider-man games for at least 3 episodes with Spider-Man (based on the animated series), Spider-Man and Venom: Separation Anxiety, and Spider-Man: Lethal Foes (SNES) vs. Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin/Spider-Man (Genesis)
- I also had an idea for a series similar to What's the Difference? called Console Wars: Pocket, where you could breifly look at comparable games from competing handheld systems outside the typical formula.
Same here, Amiga 500!
Can hardly wait for the next episode!
that whole kirby trailer was comedy gold, thanks for the laugh
it hurt cause my throats sore at the moment, but worth it :P
Awesome! Get better!
Yeah, that's been suggested. I have the SNES game. Just not sure how fair a comparison it would be.
That said, I'm sure there may be some inconsistencies in quality from one product to another.
cannot believe this was only made one year ago. that is WILD
I found it kind of unfair to compare with the first Super Bomberman which is an older game, it would be fairer comparing with Super Bomberman 2 or 3 here since these games have the same level of gameplay if not even better. (After all, Mega Bomberman is just a port of Bomberman 94 from Turbografx and with some downgrades on top of that)
I can't believe they got THE Bobcat Goldthwait
