    LOL, when you mentioned kicking the blocks out.. I kicked mine off last week, lowered the rear end and oopsies, Jeep started to roll down the driveway. That's a good tip!

    Protip: When you get the Crown Auto drum brake rebuild kit for the XJ that has everything including the shoes and drums, it will have a few extra random pieces you will not use, and they will bag the shoes together in a way that makes it look like they are pre-packaged for the driver and passenger sides, but they are not! On each side of the XJ, the shoes have a longer breaking surface towards the rear and the shorter breaking surface shoe is towards the front of the XJ. I didn't know this since none of these kits every include instructions, so I put both long shoes on the driver side and then when I went to the passenger side, neither shoe had the dowel/pin pressed into it that that adjuster plate pivots on, and it took me a while to figure out what was going on. Had to go back to driver side and take it all apart to grab the shoe I needed for the passenger side. oops.

    Great video man I just recently replaced my rear brakes on my 06 ranger and I did the same thing you did in this video. I must say it was a pain the butt. It's crazy the ranger has the exact same setup as your jeep also the by the way my e brake didn't work until after the brake job the thing with the hook and spring on mine was totally gone besides some of the cable and the loop was left. Well keep up the good work and peace.

      I know right! The drum brake technology really hasn't changed. My 1967 Mustang has essentially the same set up too!

    I understand why every time he does his brake parts are missing he doesn't know what the parts for or thinks its ok to leave parts out, the rubber grommet he removed and said it was to stop water getting in, not true that is so you can adjust the brakes shoes when the brake drum is back on, before you bleed the brake system this video could be very dangerous for a first timer not knowing about adjust the brake shoes after you put the brake drums back on.

    Good job I wanted to see you take off the brake drums
    I have a 1984 cj 7 the rear drums lock up and I have to break them loose to drive the Jeep
    I am not sure how to get the rear drums off

  • @8avexp
    @8avexp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My '88 gets several hundred thousand miles out of a set of brakes. Then again, it's mostly highway driving. Mine has 10" drums, btw.

    It doesn't look like your adjuster levers are contacting the adjuster screws, which I believe is supposed to prevent the adjuster screw from going the wrong way. Have you had any problems or figured out how to fix that?

    • @gunzmith29r
      @gunzmith29r 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      THE LEVERS ACTUALLY adjust the brake adjuster screw when you are backing up and tapping the brake...a good reason to keep the brake adjuster screw clean

      Cool! i'm not lifting my jeep i have it all factory. I was wondering what size you think i can fit in there with racing wheels?

    • @Wavetechlifeguardian
      @Wavetechlifeguardian  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would not go as big as I did. I had a lot of tire-rub, thus having to trim the inner fender. Stick with stock size: 235'75/15 for less headache.

      get an adjuster or break a butter knife to make one and pop off the slot cover behind the wheel and stick the butter knife in a flip the adjuster up or down to loosen the scrrew aand let your brakes down a little so your wheel can turn

      I know … let’s show everyone how it’s done.
      10:54 He says I don’t know where anything goes.. I’m glad I left the other side on to compare. 😂
      Man this guy is hilarious but he knows the basics and gets er done.
      Oh and the bent part is for a parking brake. You can eliminate it if you don’t use it.
      Kitty litter lol oh man that was funny .
      Don’t drop any thing in the kitty litter.
      Use it when you’re done and put cardboard down.
      Root canal .
      I like this guy . Lol
      Extra part … it goes here but I don’t need that

    Was the accident caused by you not having rear brakes? Self adjust cable is too long. $10 says you got a 10 inch drum hardware kit for 9 inch brakes, but at least you used and replaced all the parts this time. Did you at least watch somebody like Bleepin Jeep do this job before you attempted to show people how NOT to do it? Jesus Fuck man

    • @Wavetechlifeguardian
      @Wavetechlifeguardian  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The accident was caused by a drunk driver running a red light; hitting me and 3 other cars! And, Of course, I matched all the parts first! I would not even try to fit a 10 inch kit on 9 inch brakes. That was the first measurement I checked at the auto parts store. The brakes worked very well, after the job. Better than when I first bought the Jeep. Yes, I watch Bleepin Jeep all the time.
