As good as Darnold has looked this year, feel like the main thing these videos show me is how KOC is a mastermind at route designing. So many recievers can easily find open space due to the concepts he draws up
I also think that in the long run (since this is a one-and-done year for Sam with the Vikes), Sam will be a much much better QB going forward. From sitting in San Fran while learning from Shannahan/Griese to this situation with KOC/McCown. Sam Darnold needed this.
When I watched the pre-season games I kept noticing how he was getting Nailor, Sherfield, JeShaun Jones and Trishton wide open for Jaren Hall, JJ and Mullens. And when I watched other pre-season games most teams were bogged down in procedural penalties and with defences dominating spluttering offences. I don't think the analysts or league have properly thought about how difficult this offence will be to stop when Addison and Hockenson get back and are fully integrated, behind the steadily and continuously improving interior O Line.
@@oel734the better he plays the more likely he is to stay.. think what you want but if we make a playoff run. Darnold will sign a 3 year contract. JJ will stay as our franchise backup. Or we end up trading McCarthy for a couple picks and a trade.
@@donowen5889 lol no. This team is successful right now because of the cap space being freed up to sign impact players. It's going to be even better next year while taking full advantage of the JJ rookie deal.
looks like both of them are NFL material, you guys are gonna win this next draft or the one after if your front office capitalizes correctly. if they could get Flores back another year i’m calling SB edit: i’m a Chiefs type aholic
With Kevin O'Connell being a former NFL QB. I'm certain that he's coaching Sam Darnold up on the issues you've identified, and more. Gives me piece of mind as a Vikings fan. Appreciate your content.👍
I think that as Sam gets a little more confident instead of those 1 or 2 brain explosion plays, he'll just start taking off and run. You see on that 2nd play how the endzone just opened up to him when ran left. There was another play where he stepped up in the pocket to evade pressure, and instead of running for 5 or 10, backed up into a sack to avoid crossing the line of scrimmage. I'm confident that we'll start to see Sam running more on broken plays from the next 2 or 3 weeks.
With those last two drops by Justin Jefferson, he was dealing with a jammed finger of some sort, so that could have played a factor in those easy drops.
Darnold always seems good for a boneheaded play or two every game. Honestly I’ll still take that over Kirk’s overly conservative play most times. We have 3 straight games of multiple score leads. Never happened once in the Kirk Cousins era
Bro, I hear ya! I’m a life-long Vikings fan & Cousins fan, but we’ve seen a lot of awesome plays that I don’t think Kirk pulls the trigger on…..welcome to MN Sam!!!
Even if we aren’t as lucky as we’ve been for those 2 boneheaded plays, we’ve got a bone crushing defense to back em up. KOC is undefeated when turnovers are equal or in our favor 💪🏻
Watching this video makes me think obviously Sam played really well but holy shit Justin Jefferson is so so good. The route running ability is next level.
Vikes IOL critics might want to watch them on these plays. The protection is not perfect, but there is hardly a play where it doesn't allow Sam to do pretty much whatever he is supposed to do.
Just to mention, Justin Jefferson jammed his hand near the end of the second half and (if I recall correctly) didnt have any receptions after that Felt it had a clear impact watching it live
If Darnold keeps playing like this the Vikings would be idiots not to extend him long term. Who cares about McCarthy when his backup is looking like a top 10 QB right now.
@@DerrickRG Por que no los dos? Sitting rookie QBs is how teams USED to do things and it seems to work for the HoF QB factory that is the Green Bay Packers. Why not give JJ time to season and let him come in if needed?
Jefferson was playing with a jammed finger second half you can tell how he was trying to catch the ball especially the out route that got tipped by stingley
I'm a casual fan and mostly only follow the Vikings. Watching the games live, I know I don't understand everything. Watching videos like these, I realize I understand even less than I thought. That throw at 30:04 though, I yelled out loud when I saw it during the game. Sam's lookin good.
I said this last year, Minnesota has one of the best backfields offensively in the league, addison Jones Jefferson and decent t.e/slot wrs, oline blocks well enough too they just didn't have a qb, darnold with weapons and pass pro is a chance for him to prove he can play, so far he's done it looked good in that contest, 💯JT
You keep talking about Jefferson's catch-radius as if it's an indictment on Sam's accuracy.... Every Profession NFL Wide Receiver needs to have a good catch-radius to be successful in the NFL. Not every pass is going to be picture-perfect right-in-the-numbers.
4:20 jones was wide open at the 10 during that 3rd and 6. Not sure he would have gotten in the end zone, and glad he made the choice he did, but he seemed to often have at least one wide open option each play.
Throw at 20:20, looks like Darnold was about to throw it in time to Jettas but he felt the defense coming around the blindside and pulled it in. Think it might have been a hit arm/strip if Darnold followed through.
I guess as a different way to phrase it, do you want the guy who can turn the eight seconds surveying the field before "hut" into eight minutes, or the one whose heart rate doesn't change a bit once the ball is snapped?
Jefferson jammed his thumb and I think he gets into his head about injuries which can lead to drops. That hamstring injury really did a number on him mentally I think
This is actualy a preview of JJ McCarthy. Cheap QB working a great offensive system. Sam is going to get paid by a team next year. If JJ McCarthy can be 80-90% of Sam, this team will still be great next year.
Maybe its just me but some of Sam's throws are just a hair too late. Like he needs to leads his recievers just a little more. I have noticed a few of his throws are right on or slightly behind his recievers
I think his issue is that he's looking at the Receiver's numbers and throwing it there instead of looking in the area in front of the receiver and throwing it there.
Week 3. And some of those throws behind like the one up the seam to Nailor on that last drive vs the 49ers took Nailor away and saved him from a 3 man tackle.
That's his issue when he has to read the middle of the field. In camp he was having issues with those types of passes. But he was also showing all the positive stuff we're seeing right now.

Reminiscent of Mullens who is good for like, 4-5 bonehead plays per game, but Mullens isn't the physical specimen Darnold is.

100% agree.

Great vid JT, if anything it shows there is a lot of opportunity for this offense and room for improvement.
ALL HAIL THE GEQBUS!!! 😤
Many people are saying this. Beautiful people. Smart people
Man Darnold is slinging the rock. He’s really close to turning it over a few times a game but the dude is just a gamer
Hard to believe after watching this that he only had 180 yards.
Thanks for talking about GEQBUS
Jefferson was playing with a jammed finger second half you can tell how he was trying to catch the ball especially the out route that got tipped by stingley
YOU NEED to break down someone going against this Flores defense
Love seeing these every week!
I too would throw it to Jets every other play.
If the opposing Defense is dumb enough to have single-coverage on Jets every time, then yeah...throw it to him all day.
JJ needs to get doubled or it's an easy completion 95% of the time.
@@YeTheGOATNoCap Thus making Sam's job a hell of a lot easier if all he needs to do is basically play "catch" with Jets.

As a Vikings fan, it's readily apparent every game that the scheme is carrying Darnold. He's executing, but this MVP talk we're all hearing is wild

Is CJ Stroud on YT or QBSCHP? as a vikings fan want to see why what Brian Flores is doing is so crazy and hard to deal with
Yes
Let’s go!
Would you rather have a QB who is 60% on pre-snap reads and 40% post-snap, or vice-versa?
one thing the media did not necessarily talk about is the jefferson jammed his finger early into the second half, those drops are because of that.
Everyone drops balls. His finger wasn't necessarily the problem
Yes, every game, a few crazy decision making. Need to clean up.
Am I the only one who does the clap along with J.T at the intro?
no
