The outer shell is ok to crack on impact it's the inside that needs to stay intact. And anytime you have any accident with a helmet you should always buy a new one even if you don't see a lot of damage

Im pretty sure you want it to break at a certain point, i mean, that's probably not enough force to warrant the other breaking, but you get some good pading on the inside. The egg drop comes to mind.
