Love love love it & so glad you liked the video! I would describe this painting as “a richly textured semi-abstract landscape”. Why, when I do lots of marks as a resist, do they just look like too many marks, whereas for you they bend & weave & create light? 🤔
Love the scraping. I was thinking you’d need thicker consistency paint to have much impact, but those light transparent layers are gorgeous & I will definitely have to try that! Especially the very first steel blue-grey ones you did near the horizon. It immediately created a canyon, which turned into sandbank drop offs as you added the other colours, lines & layers. I must admit I nearly cried when you covered up that soft colour graduation near the end, but it’s still beautiful & interesting. And the desert green with the apricot & black at the front made up for it 😁 I loved those soft end marks you got when you first started scraping in the foreground (lol - sounds like you were excavating to find your painting!). I think they would make an amazing transition at the water’s edge of a big lake or reef-protected beach like where I live. Or even going from sand dunes onto mud flats. We get lots of little waves at our beach most of the time as the reef prevents big waves & you know how they sometimes create those rivulets in the sand as the tide goes out? That’s what that soft scraping kind of reminded me of - even in the dark black, like it turned up black sand. It will be interesting to try different types & widths of cardboard & maybe try bending it to create irregular ripples along a straight edge. I’m also going to have to force myself to eat some ice cream 🤭 to try plastic from the container as a flexible scraper. Although I have a feeling the absorbency of the cardboard is what gave it a lot of its magic. I also have a set of flexible silicon makeup “brushes” from AlieEx that were designed for applying mud packs. They’re not really brushes as they don’t have bristles, but they have different shapes, sizes & edges so might make some really interesting drag marks & lines. I bought them to try on my Gelli plate, but I’ll have to try directly on the paper too. Ugh. If only I didn’t have to work again tonight. Better go to sleep & hopefully dream of painting. Night night & happy creating 😃

Thanks Allison! Love the idea of bending and shaping the cardboard. I have some scalloped craft scissors that might be fun. 🤔 I think the key to the resist marks is to not overthink it and mark in many directions. So many ideas to try. We must get to work! 😍

Hello Trina, finished my breakfast tea with satisfaction…another great landscape with some more unique techniques. Love that cardboard deal! I need to try that…it mixes the colors well together with a transparency showing the different colors one on top of the other. Definitely something to try! This painting was very moody but lovely…it would define well a fall scene. Loved how the clouds turned out with the resist and under the clouds it does look like water. I love water in landscapes as I live on an island and water is a favorite thing to view. I wish you a lovely weekend and will tune in next week. God bless!

I'm confused. Is the wax paper the same wax paper you buy from the grocery store in a roll? THXS

I’m using deli paper. It’s not as waxy as wax paper but that would probably work as well. You could also try plain copy paper. Hope that helps! 😍

Hi Trina: (I'm late to the party), what is "aqua pasta"? Thanks! Chris.

Hey Chris! Great question. Aquapasto is a transparent gel medium that helps you create impasto effects by thickening and reducing the flow of watercolors. It’s magical! 😍
