Lost foam casting a branding iron for my foamies Do at own risk. Molten metal is dangerous and lots of people get hurt. Protect yourself. your skin may heal but your eyes won't. wear proper gear. cheers
Great video man! I'm thinking the zinc isn't melting the foam all the way. Definitely would be cool to make it so you can use a drill press. Even pressure
Thanks Bud. I agree. its crazy how hard the sand gets. reminds me of the foam gumming up on the router bit. pretty sure thats it. works well though. poured a few pieces yesterday and it worked out good. drill press could be cool but i think with some practice it will be fine with the pliers.
Thanks Bill. I casted a few pieces yesterday. it worked out nice. builing a few stools now. might be a longer vid coming up but excited about it. cheers
Thanks Bud! I poured some yesterday! worked out really well. working on some stools for a fundraiser for a friend of mine. next vid will be pretty epic. cheers
bad news the motor for the blower is to weak to run the fan so i need to find another one. i made a wire cuttr sometime ago, i robed the parts for anothr project. iv made a few patterns that have been settin for probley 10yrs lol. i did find a router might order it next maybe the next. i sold a gantry (engine lifter) so ill probably get some things iv been wanting@@stevesrt8
yeah its pretty wild. i still dont understand how it works but it works really well. The foam burns away so you have to make a pattern for every pour. I have a cnc router for carving. cheers
I’ve been cutting around 1/8 - 1/16. Just straight cut. Pretty basic. I want to maybe upgrade my software and try some v-groove stuff. Happy for you Sir. That’s gonna be a fun rig you got
Hi Oli. I am using a cnc plasma table that i converted to use a router. It's not ideal but it works ok for what i need it for. I usually let the plaster dry for a couple days. normally i try and set up a lot of castings to do at the same day so im prepping patterns well in advance of casting.
Very interesting.
yeah man. Lost foam casting is pretty crazy. i still don't get how it even works but it works really well. cheers
@@stevesrt8 Really nice 👍
Great idea! That will save some time for the model making and the cnc machine. 👍
thanks man. i poured some tops yesterday. i kind of like the look. doesnt look routered in like before. softer feeling. cheers.
@@stevesrt8 Your package arrived today 😁👍

@@numbskullskills get your furnace going buddy. you'll be hooked! lots you can do with foam without a router setup. look into a hotwire cutter.

Cool video nice work thanks Lee
Thanks Lee. Cheers Bud
Nice job! That is a weird reaction of the zamac with the sand, never seen that before :)
Thanks! yeah, i'm pretty sure its foam residue. I think i'll try and get the metal hotter next time. cheers
@@stevesrt8Maybe coat/dip the foam pattern before casting? I've never done zinc/zamac, but I always coat foam for aluminum pours.
@@kisoia yes me too. it had a thin plaster coating,
Great video and idea
Thanks Man. Its handy. worked out well enough for sure
Wow this is very cool.
Thanks Mrs! cheers

That's really interesting. Is that what they call lost foam? What do you use to carve the foam, a laser?

Hi Steve, I wonder how deep you normally cut your lettering? Do you taper or round over your lettering? I'm getting closer! David

Hi,
can you tee me, which router do you use ?
How long do you dry the plaster before you cast ?
Thanks Olli
