This song reached the masses from the Buena Vista Social Club project and I have heard so many variations and versions performed around the world ever since. We decided to create our own version while on a trip recording and filming music in Cuba in 2015. The Legendary Pancho Amat on the Cuban tres along with the incredible piano playing of Roberto Carcasses set the framework for this song, and then once we heard Teté Garcia Caturla sing lead vocals we realized exactly why we do what we do. Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Original Buena Vista was envisioned as a collaboration between Cubans and West African Musicians. So happy to see a Kora, and a Griot and a member of Diabate family together with Cuban Music Masters! I had the unbelievable privilege and pleasure of being in Bamako for Ali Farka's memorial in 2016 and shaking Mr. Toumani's Senior, Farka's family members and Mr. Amadou's hand, I will never forget that experience. I've heard this song the first time in 2001 or 2002 (almost sure it was on Nov. or Dez. of 2001), when Señor Luis Frank Arias Mosquera with his band Soneros de Verdad gave a concert in Karlsruhe. I was about 22 years old and had a rough 22 years behind me and at that time just a glimpse of a better life. This concert was one of the greatest experiences in my life, because there happened something unbelievable.
We Germans are not that type of people who just start dancing publicly - not even at concerts. In Paris for example you can experience people dancing at the river Seine, just for the sake of joy and happiness. I've never seen this in Germany. Maybe it happens somewhere, but it really is not typical. So was the concert at the beginning. People had fun, but where mostly standing, neither dancing nor moving more than needed.
But what happened during that concert was a miracle. The band turned these stiff crowd into waves of dancers, into an ocean of love and joy. Literally everybody was dancing, everybody was like part of something so beautiful, that whenever I listen to this song, I still feel it moving inside myself! I have never been in Cuba and sadly am not able to visit it ever in my life, but what I experienced that night is what I believe is Cubas soul. Thank you for this gift and thank you, that you are still keeping it alive with your music!

This was beautiful. I especially loved the older lady and her singing. I couldn't understand a word but she had such attitude and spirit. So wonderful to see so many talented musicians from all these different countries that I typically would never get to see or hear.

One of the tools i use to learn spanish is songs. And when i heard this at the first time it went directly into my heart. And i searched the story behind it.
It relates the story of man and woman, who are building a house and go to the beach to get some sand. Chan chan collects the sand and put it on the sieve and juanica shakes it making CC embarrassed 😅.
