After hurricane Laura our NOAA tower and local radio station towers were damaged and off air. Home phone lines were down and cell phone service too. At the time I used a Sony ICF-19 to get AM stations clearly during the day from New Orleans 170 miles away, Shreveport 140 miles away, and other stations out past 200 miles for news about power line crews and damage.

A high quality AM radio receiver is crucial if your region is heavily damaged by storms for getting news updates from outside the damage area when nothing else is working. Try the Sangean PR-D4W AM/FM/NOAA radio. It`s one of the most sensitive AM radio receivers made today and is basically 98% as good as the CCrane receivers. If you can`t afford it get the Sony ICF-19. Three D batteries last over 400 hours in the Sony and it`s the least expensive AM/FM receiver with very high AM sensitivity (along with the Panasonic 562 retro AM/FM/Shortwave if it`s on sale). It`s 3 1/2 on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being best) compared to the Sangean but has the best battery run time of any radio currently made.

But my big question is how the other battery in the back works?

@@DarvinHodgson They all work together to power the radio. Japanese design but they`re excellent radio makers. It`s very strange that a radio with only 3 batteries and excellent loud bassy sound can have the best battery life of any radio I`ve ever seen. Mine had low capacity rechargeable batteries in it when the hurricane hit and ran non stop for two weeks. I never turned it off.

Are they twins? They look so much alike. Love seeing your family ❤️

This month, May, is Volcano Preparedness and I think Emergency Radios are great for that too! Also, when you are sheltered inside your house during a tornado watch, this would be helpful if the power goes out. Many great reasons to have one of these!

great radio to have to tune into air shows or local events for time listings/information/ or anything that has a local radio station to keep their guests informed about what is going on.

Not hurricane, but definitely tornado country, I like the size and ease of use! Thanks so much, will try to find this one now! We had a tornado wipe out a huge part of the area, and this would've been perfect.

I have been wondering how people will communicate with devices that they have been protecting in the faraday cases? If an EMP or other disasters that take out any electronics happen they would also take out any tower or communication points like cell phone and radio towers wouldn’t they? Your radios, phones and other devices are not going to work no matter if you protect them or not. If I am wrong about this please educate me on the matter. I am hoping to figure out a solid plan to have soon but this has prevented me from moving forward so far. Thank you for the great video. As always I really like you guys and appreciate the content!

How efficient is the charging crank? How long would it take to charge the battery from a dead state? Realistically how long would it take to charge a cell phone?

Enjoyed watching this review video! Looks like this would be a very sturdy, useful weather radio. I have an analog model but will consider upgrading to digital :-)

Is this an updated version of the ER310? Does this also take AA or AAA batteries too as alternate power source?

I don' like your negativity. You make it appear that advance warning is not there and or that important...especially a tornado warning. Your opening statement is totally unfair to the benefits of this radio.
