Yes the coast is cooler, but in winter everywhere is colder, and in summer you are going to appreciate the decision of moving near the coast. There are places in SD like Rancho Bernardo or El Cajon where temperatures can reach 120ish F

Living in Carmel Valley, if I go to Costco on Carmel Mountain in summer it's at least 15 degrees hotter.
