The AEA close mic'd no pick 5khz +10db had a really nice Elliott Smiit vibe to the tone. +20 db at 10 khz with the pick was sparkly, and very nice, though maybe a little farther than I'd go with HF boost, even with a ribbon. Though I'd probably just back off 3-9db, it's a nice tone.
What a great experiment! I could see a sexy blend of that and a sdc blended to majesty
Instant video like for starting a video with some puppy love.
I record acoustic musicians mostly these days - Americana, Roots, Bluesy, Alt-Country stuff. Not sure I like the sound you're getting. But that's more on me.
You might like J.A.J.
I like to use Shure SM81 on the neck and AKG c414 XLII on the body
Great signal chain. My wallet’s looking at me like I’m thinking about doing something rude to it.
Hi Hercules!
I'm a big fan of the R92 on Acoustic, as well as R88A. Haven't gotten to try those two mics though
Have you tried the AEA RPQ-500? Sound great with my ribbons and are a bit more "affordable" 😅
Sounds like a good candidate for the "Air Band" on the MAAG.
Goals on goals for the mic locker
Great!
Hey Andrew, thanks ! Would you cover how to choose an acoustic guitar for recording ? Some people would say pick a small body to limit the amount of low end, some would say the opposite saying a larger body for the articulation and picking. What is your take on the subject ?
This is really what’s right for the song and sometimes it just takes trying what you have and seeing what feels best.
