    What was the "lightbulb moment" that got you over the proverbial hump? Learning inversions was certainly a HUGE thing for me. But not far behind was the nuances of dialing in #reverb. #discuss

      I dunno I just recently started playing more spacier things but it seems like we do more in your face guitar type songs and I'm always the one driving things. I can't really turn my heavy rock tendencies off I guess ;). But we cover the gamut on styles too. Heck we even had a R&B/soul/gospel type set during black history month led by an African American associate pastor and that was a blast. I just play whatever I hear in my head that I think is appropriate. But I agree less is always more unless you're rocking really hard which we do a lot. I attended a more mega-church type setting the other day but I'm not sure I care for the longer weird chorus-y wash-y long worship music. I guess we just do like simple hard rock, bluesy, funky, jazzy, fusion-y things a lot that's a bit more guitar driven. I'm not a giant fan of the super washed out reverb thing I guess, but it is more challenging not to lean on that.

      Let see, this is our small set list that's coming up (just to give you an idea):
      1. Open Up the Heaves (in Bb because female vocalist(s) ) - this has a huge in your face hook/intro part that repeats a lot which some crazy delay added in to fill out the sound during pre-chorus/chorus and bridge bits
      2. How He Loves [C] (David Crowder) - typically I play a lot of the lead lines but I have some crazy-ish delays and phaser and other things going on but I'm close to the recorded song. I do swells at the beginning too.
      3. Jesus Lover of My Soul [G] - Here I just play things R&B style with some soulful bluesy licks thrown in the fill things out
      4. Christ Be All Around Me [D] - This is a response, we haven't practiced it much but I think I'll just hang back with reverb-y/delay filled things ;P. Seems to be more piano driven anyway.

      To sum up my long winded blabbing, I think the lightbulb moment for me was to just figure out a decent part or parts to play that are appropriate to the song. You must serve the song above anything else and not be a distraction from Worship of our God.

      This video actually. I’ve always played guitar and bass at church without effects, relying on piano/keyboard for a lot of the nice background stuff, or else some soft picking. Watching your video showed me exactly what I want and what I’ve been missing. Dynamics is a HUGE aspect of the way I lead the music, and now the range of possibilities just seems endless

    If I only have one reverb pedal (Rv-6), should I sacrifice that "pad" feel so it doesn't get in the way of my lead lines? I feel sometimes that I don't have enough reverb, but quickly have to turn it down when the overdrive comes on

    • @TeleCathster
      @TeleCathster 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Truman that was my problem too! Having multiple options on tap. I have just purchased he line6 hx effects to try having multiple delays and reverb mixes on delay.
      I still have he rv6 and plan to grab an expression pedal and use that to control the mix on the rv6 without having to bend down

    • @GuitarforHISGlory
      @GuitarforHISGlory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      David, the idea is setting the reverb to strike the balance between too much and too little; that is, to achieve the pad feel without it getting in the way. This can be accomplished with the RV6. But, if you had two options for reverb, like Catherine mentioned, you'll be in better shape.

    • @AnthonyChhan
      @AnthonyChhan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My biggest trick when only working with one reverb option is to use the reverb on the amp for 1st line of reverb and use a deeper reverb on the pedal that can be turned on/off at anytime. Works like a charm for me.

    Reverb mix will vary from player to player depending if it’s before or after the amp and how hot that amp is running. Were you using the reverb on the kemper ? If so was it before or after the amp or cab sim. I’ve been using the revival drive as my “amp” as I like to run a hotter amp and vary my volume knob and or picking attack to get from clean to rhythm chunk. Maybe you could do a follow up video to this.? Love the channel btw

    Thanks for the video! Question about the reverb @KPA: in overall, do you feel satisfied with the stock Kemper reverbs? I've heard mixed opinions about their quality (reportedly, some of them lacking), hence this question. Thanks!

    • @GuitarforHISGlory
      @GuitarforHISGlory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Kemper reverbs are awesome, especially in stereo. You can judge for yourself by watching every video I've uploaded from August 2017 to now.

      @michalmikolajmaslowski3994 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will do, thanks!
      I do plan on running a stereo right from the get-go; as far as KPA fx are considered, do you need to/can you manually split the signals upon editing your path, or the stereo fx automatically split between the L and R outputs (no extra work required)?
      if there's one thing that I wish the KPA had was the AES/BEU output ports to run entirely digital. Not a major issue, by any stretch, but something to consider upon planning to migrate to the digital realm.

    I was just watching related videos in GuitarForHisGlory Bootcamp because my WL has mentioned my delay repeats being bright in his IEMs. It's possible it's only what he's hearing in his IEMs that is bright . I haven't heard anything from the congregation or sound folks on this, so now I'm wondering if it's because what the WL is hearing isn't moderated by the band in the room plus congregational bodies.

    • @indianrockstrat
      @indianrockstrat ปีที่แล้ว

      The Bootcamp video on delay suggests that you generally run delay into reverb as opposed to pulling delay down on a parallel path where the reverb and delay merge but delay isn't run directly into reverb.

      I went through an rv-6, hof 2, walrus slo, fathom, and slo, and a few weird reverb pedals and could never get a hillsong ish type of sound. i bit the bullet on the story in big sky a few days ago and will never go back! I almost bought an rv-500, but it was very cold and was missing some character. the strymon has a warmth, and many options to dial in what you want. i would save for that rather than buying 5-10 pedals before you find one. just my .02 though! The hof is an excellent reverb pedal, but it doesn’t do the huge pad sounds.

    Hi, I am currently working on completing my mini pedalboard. I have the ehx soul food overdrive, strymon bluesky and the source audio nemesis. I want to get another overdrive, a comp and a volume pedal. For the volume pedal I was think about the Dunlop x mini and for the comp I was thinking about the xotic sl drive. Do you have any suggestions for an overdrive? Preferably a mini one to fit on my board but I'll take any suggestions. I love your tone, kinda want it to sound similar to yours. Finally, would you make any changes to the board or add anything?

      @@mattlitchford8901 What about 3-4 pedals vs line 6 hx effects?

    • @mattlitchford8901
      @mattlitchford8901 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob Person I have an HX Stomp and I can confidently say that the effects in the Line 6 HX Series stuff are top notch and sound great! There is a little bit of a learning curve with the digital stuff but it sounds good! I would say you need to assess how “deep” you’d like to get with effects. If you’re wanting basic drive tones with a little delay and reverb, then a few used pedals are a great start. However if you’re wanting to recreate really washy sounds and have a lot of diversity in your tone, then something like an HX Effects might be a cost effective option. Also, if you really like your amp then I’d say do something like a few pedals or an HX Effects. If you’re interested in using digital amp modeling, I’d look into either HX Stomp, Helix, OR even the older POD HD500 is an underrated unit unit in my opinion. All that to say...it depends!! 😆 I hope this helps!
