jessethejuice your kid will live it. it is a perfect starter quad with a little bit of wiggle room to upgrade it a little as they learn. my daughter got this at 5 years old. she is ready for a bigger one now. but for the investment was worth every penny. these little 50s also have a great resale value if kept clean and stored inside. maybe I'll see you on the trails one day. good luck.
Awesome video. Do you remember what size 80cc jets you used for the idle and main? I have a 2008 50 Raptor and my 10 yr old is about too big for it. It needs a carb job anyway b/c it dies out too much, but after seeing your video, it has inspired me to "soup it up" and maybe get a few more years out of it before upgrading.
I am about to do the same thing to my daughters 50. Any additional info you give me would be great. Which CDI did you use? Did you change the exhaust or just gut the baffles? Where did you get the wheel spacers? It doesn't look like the lug studs are long enough for 3/4" on mine. Let me know. Thanks
+Jeff Barnes Jeff, Good morning. Sorry for the delay in my response, been working on the 90 for my son (video soon to come soon) Performance CDI BOX. this will run you about $100. there are some for a little less and a little more but all in all $100. Just make sure it says it removes the rev-limit from 8000 rpm's to 9000 rpm's. For the life of me I can not find the link that I got the spacers from. I will see if I can find it and post it. Either way, for a piece of mind, you can thread on 1/2" nuts for the rears to bide you time. the 50 isn't designed to go into areas where heavy stress loads will affect the integrity. as long as they are the right thread you will be fine. this is one place that says they have them www.crjperformance.com/yara8050whsp1.html throttle limiter and throttle slide you can order the OEM parts raptor/year/80cc. parts will fit, and very easy to install. (roughly $30 ish) or you can do what I did and cut the slide (5/16"), ensure you remove any rough metal edges and clean it very well with carb cleaner (Gumout), any burrs may and will cause a problem down the road if not immediately. the only heads up on this one is to pay attention when re-installing the throttle cable. I guess i rotated the carb or something when I put it back and it sounded like i was leaning on the throttle. simple little adjustment it was fixed, but scared the hell out of myself as she revved up immediately after start. With the throttle restrictor, when you take off the three screws on the thumb throttle housing and press the throttle, it is plain as day what this gold metal triangular shaped piece is doing. take it off and grind off or cut. Re-jetting the carb is pretty straight forward and if you are opening it up for the throttle slide, you might as well. you will need to order a idle jet and main jet. again, raptor/year/80cc. pretty straight forward with adding and removing these. the small carburetor is actually quite easy to work on. If you have a used quad I would take the opportunity to clean it out and based on condition replace the gaskets, but i didn't have to replace the gaskets. (ethanol in our gas gets gummy in there and clogs stuff up) With the above done, heck, the CDI box alone, you will notice a difference in performance and speed. easily get it up to 18+ MPH. With the exhaust, I only removed the spark arrestor (baffle) and replaced with a chrome exhaust tip. ($14). You still get backpressure and opens her up a little. NOTE, a new exhaust (big gun, FMF, etc...) will definitely make an improvement with HP and some speed,. But this is where I start getting into, unless you are racing in a 50cc class race, or you just have money to burn, what i feel is starting to spend more than necessary to achieve what we are looking for in a 50cc for our kid. The costs for a 50cc exhaust start at about $180 and up. The air filter removal I highly recommend. I am not a fan of how it is implemented. Very easy. just loosen the hose clamp on the plastic tube coming out the front of the carb and remove altogether from the quad. A K&N tapered filter (part depends on the diameter of the air intake opening on the carb. Just measure and order. You will need to order outerwear if you plan on mudding and/or high dust areas like tracks. UNI makes this and is cheap in the realm of what we are talking about above. this one is your call, but will significantly increase the air intake and not run sounding starved with the CDI upgrade. If the above is not enough and you are a glutton for punishment as well as create an opportunity to create more work than it is worth, you can remove some of the clutch balls. I have read anywhere from 4 to 8. please note, i did not do this nor do i recommend this. If interested please refer to forums and other outlets. Last but not least, some patience, as you will need to tune the carb air screw and fuel screw. this can happen quickly or can take some time. I played with it for a couple of hours, including testing time and stuff, but does need to be done. do not hold me to this, but if I remember off the top of my head, turn both clockwise until all the way in. one gets turned 2 full turns out, the other 2.5 turns out. adjust 1/4 turn between the two until she starts purring. Warm up quad first and ensure choke is off. I do not think I missed anything. drop me questions if you have em. Hope that helps and enjoy.
George Griffin man i have been looking for two weeks for a all this type of information and here i find it 5am buried in a comment section on here. Amazing. Appreciate this. I was looking for this answer to the rev limiter everywhere and every Yamaha 50 i saw didn’t match our model. Thank you
I just got a 50 for my daughter but there is a hose coming off the side of the carb. That looks like a vacuum leak can you tell me where it goes? Mine isn't plugged into anything!
I got a 2005 raptor 50. The idle is too high when it’s on neutral. But purrs nice when on drive. Even after adjustment idle screw it still doesn’t lower idle. We added a rev limiter that’s all. Even with stock chip it still idles high when in neutral. Help please
To be honest, I do not know off the top of my head. Prior to going to the motorcycle shop I measured the size of the opening of the carburetor that the old tube apparatus for air flow tied into and grabbed a small (so it would fit in the space) air filter that fit the opening. Hose clamp later and vuala
+mohammed salt sounds like he deleted the rev limiter by purchasing a new performance CDI box. Said to make sure it says that it removes the rev limit from 8000rpm's to 9000rpm's.
Nice 👌
I love it. I just bought one for my kid for Christmas.

@@georgegriffin944 Thank you for taking the time to leave the detailed reply.

Did you use the stock raptor 80 jets.
I just got a 50 for my daughter but there is a hose coming off the side of the carb. That looks like a vacuum leak can you tell me where it goes? Mine isn't plugged into anything!
Can you send me a pic or year and make of 50 an I can tell you. There should not be any, to my knowledge, hoses going to nowhere
George Griffin it wasn't a vacuum leak but still runs like garbage
If its at the bottom of the carb and on the left side (when sitting on the quad) its just the overflow

Did you figure it out? Have the same issue with mine
Fuel screw
Have the same issue if someone knows the answer!! Please
What size K&N did you get

If it removed tell me how? 👍🏼
+mohammed salt sounds like he deleted the rev limiter by purchasing a new performance CDI box. Said to make sure it says that it removes the rev limit from 8000rpm's to 9000rpm's.
The rev limiter, if I am not mistaken, is part of the CDI box program. When you buy a new performance CDI box it changes the limit to a higher RPM
