  • I like to describe catching Sekiu Coho on the surface as fun and easy as a video game. Plus the biggest hatchery king salmon I've ever seen! Coho, rockfish, lingcod and Greenling. Levi and I packed a lot into one day between Marine Area 5 (Sekiu) and Marine Area 4B (Neah Bay).

    Blake! You're really killing it this year, I am happily entertained. Managed to have a great day on the water yesterday myself. Caught 2 of 2 target species for the trip and got a 15 minute close up sighting of the Orcas, less than 10 minutes from launch point. New bucket list addition, "Catch a Saltwater Rockfish with a Bass Rated Topwater Lure". Keep up the great vids! Mike.

    Excellent! You are definitely having a busy year. To prevent fog ups on a gopro or gopro knockoff camera housing: tear off a piece of paper towel small enough that it will fit in the side of the camera that is opposite where your sd card goes (between the housing and camera) works as good as the no fog ones you have to buy.

      I'm starting to find this largely a Strait of Juan de Fuca phenomena. In spring they can be SUPER active on the surface feeding on crab larvae.

      It is kind of weird catching them on a seam of the water. It's because bait fish were concentrated there, so they went out to feed.

    What are your general perimeters for swell tide and wind to make sure you're safe on the water? I have a flat bottom jet boat and would love to get out there to try and fish for halibut and bottom fish this summer.

    • @WAFishQuest
      @WAFishQuest  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Andy. It's kind of tough. I like winds below 10 mph. Lower the better obviously. And 1-3 swell basically. That said, the NOAA marine forecast is often wrong for the area. I've been out there on small craft advisory days that just had big rollers but no actual chop, or even small waves. To me, I'll usually go up there if the wind is calm. Like 6 mph or something, and hope for good ocean conditions. This won't do you any good for halibut, but I have caught salmon and rockfish in Clallam Bay on rough days. (the bay is often protected). Hope you get em!

    • @WAFishQuest
      @WAFishQuest  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, 80% of the time, the wind gets worse as the day goes. If it's ever too windy though, I recommend a hike or nap, and check back in the evening. Sometimes it chills out, almost like magic.
