Puget Sound Winter Crabbing

  • Puget Sound has a summer and a winter crab season. Winter is my favorite! Much fewer boats, open 7days a week, and a great excuse to get out on a brisk Autumn day.
    Shingo and I head to Seattle (Marine Area 10) to get the crab! Will we get the crab? Or will they defend themselves somehow?!

    I’m tryna learn so is it okay or illegal to pick n choose for the bigger ones or what you catch is what you take home? For example that monster at the end if you reached you limit can you toss a smaller one that’s in the cooler already from past catch for that monster????? Or is that not good idk I’m asking cause that’s what I would do but I don’t know the rules

    • @WAFishQuest
      @WAFishQuest  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a great question! I am not sure. I do it, but I can't say it's legal for sure. I don't personally do it if a crab has been in the cooler for 8 hours and is probably brain damaged or something. But if it's my last series of pulls of the day, I definitely take the biggest ones from the four pulls if I've marked my 5. Sorry that I don't know the answer in this one. I've been checked before, and the game wardens didn't ask anything like that. Just checked names on the buoys, number of pots, and that all crabs on the boat where marked on my catch card. Good crabbing sir!

    • @WAFishQuest
      @WAFishQuest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks John! Oh my. thanks Mochidad for letting us know that! I got off light. I've been pinched a few times. Every time it's just hurt and I recovery in an hour or so. I've never pulled one off. I just cradle them back in the water and they've released after they feel safe. I've never had one get me square on a joint tho. Once as a kid, a red rock got me. They are a lot stronger. A nearby adult grabbed it and threw it off. It tore my skin, but I suffered no permanent damage.
