That moment when a character that has no powers stole the show from a superhero tv show. All jokes aside, feels like they made Ward's story much more interesting/thrilling than Danny's. I don't think the actor did Danny's role much justice though. They picked a fantastic actor to play Ward who played the hell out this role, then a very average actor to play Danny. I think it's safe to say Iron Fist tv show isn't as good as the rest of the defenders, but wow Tom Pelphrey (Ward Meachum) made this show bearable. Such an amazing character. I hope to see the actor in more things.
@@bellaberryful Maybe that's what I hated about Danny Rand though. The naivety and how quickly he gets ticked off ruined the superhero for me. Also he pulls the same angry look all the time through the show. I understand he has been away from normal life in 10 years and a lot of things are new to him but jeez... cool your head. All that meditating and peace did nothing for him did it? He's the god damn iron fist and he doesn't use his brain in the slightest. I thought by Defenders he would have became at least more mature. But no he acts like a spoiled entitled brat the entire season. And seriously how stupid can you be to open the door for The Hand. He really makes my blood boil. It just simply doesnt make sense about his character. You train to be a Martial Artist which is all about the mind. You live in peace for 10 years. Yet as soon as returns to New York he started acting like he never went to K'un-Lun. Why does he get beaten up so much too? Iron Fist is all about how good a fighter he is. That's his biggest strength. Yet he gets beat down as much as Matt Murdoch and that guy has had to train without his eyes.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Danny and I don't neccessarily blame the actor to be honest. I feel it's a mix of sloppy writing and one dimensional acting. They made his storyline and character so weak and made The Hand so uninteresting that it even made you feel bored to hear that it's what The Defenders was all about. I guess Iron Fist also had a lot of high expectations because of how well JJ and Daredevil had done.
Agreed, the actor really is phenomenal. I urge anybody that hasn't to watch Banshee. He doesn't come into it until season 3, but he totally steals that show as well.

His father used him as an extension of himself, his sister used him as an emotional crutch without respite, the company used him to make them more and more cash by any means. Even Danny himself may've felt sorry for Ward but that didn't stop him from using him; then both Danny and Joy blasted Ward if he began to buckle under the pressure, some which they were unaware of.
If he was played by anyone else but Tom, I don't think he would have had been as popular. Tom steals every show he's in - Ozark, Iron Fist, Banshee, etc.

For some reason Ward Meachum reminds me of Grant Ward from Agents of Shield I don't know why but I found myself making parallels with the two shows and I think it's possible the writers drew inspiration from AOS because the characters ran into similar problems but handled them in a more mature and believable ways. That's why I like Netflix Marvel shows over AOS the characters are more realistic and mature. That all being said I think Ward Meachum was a lot more honest about his feelings and a lot more independent than Grant Ward which is why I like him he calls shit like it is.
They always seemed similar to me. However, Grant Ward is an amazing and very complex character, i don't think the Netflix shows are more mature or whatever, they just show more flesh id say. But yes they reminded me a lot of each other, both broken men who only really needed acceptance or guidance
As someone who’s in AA I love this character more then the show itself. I’m more into the Daredevil TV show as well as Punisher BUT Ward I can relate with substance abuse
Wonderful and heart wrenching video. I feel like you really caught some of Ward's angst from season one! Ward is by far my favorite character of the show, but I had an appreciation for most of the characters, honestly. This video and another has given me a lot of muse for my Ward story. And I thank you for that!
