    The set for this was Rush’s concert setup from their previous tour in 2012. It’s all Rush. They always have amazing stage sets. They played 3 songs. 2112 Overture (with Foo Fighters), Tom Sawyer, and Spirit of Radio.

    The most amazing thing about Neil's drum kit is that he actually used everything; nothing was there just for show.

    If you really want to see a representation of a reaction, watch the scene in the movie Immortal Beloved where Beethoven is presenting for the first time his 9th symphony. He was completely deaf by that time, and he had to be shown that the audience was on their feet. It was one of the best scenes from a movie I've ever seen.

    They were on tour at the time so the set was a scaled down version of their tour set up. It was the Time Machine Tour

  • @lvgelfling72
    @lvgelfling72 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Their stage was definitely part of their Time Machine tour stage. Clockwork Angels is their last album and is a full concept album - accompanied with a novel and is steampunk themed. This was prior to the full album being released though, but there had been two songs released that they played during Time Machine Tour (tour was primarily to celebrate 30th (I believe) anniversary of Moving Pictures release. Cool Easter Egg here though... The time on Neil's base drum is 9:12. Neil's birthday was 9/12. Also, military time for 912 pm is 2112. 😊

    I'm a recent interview with Strombo in Canada...Geddy himself said, "I have a weird voice. Our music is the only kind of music that we COULD play. It wouldn't suit anything else."
    And once again, SalvoG, I have to reiterate...you missing out on some huge songs ..

    I was there! Went down to the Rock and Roll HOF induction to see Donna Summer, Heart and Rush be inducted. Chris Cornell inducted Heart and Foo Fighters inducted Rush. The Foos did "Rush drag" and performed a couple of Rush tunes from their really early career then Rush came out and did a few songs (this being one). The place was electric!!! I was getting emotional with all the shout outs to Canada and Toronto. Fun fact: I met Geddy Lee years ago at a theatre in Toronto. He's taller than I thought he'd be...and he's such a nice guy. 🎸🥁🎤😎🤟🤘

    • @Phydoux2112
      @Phydoux2112 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I met Geddy at his book signing. Only thing I didn't like about that was I already had his book, brought it with me but they made you buy his book so he could sign it. So I have 2 copies of his Book of Bass. Which isn't terrible but it was terribly expensive. I keep his signed book in the wrapping it came in and I keep the unsigned one on a shelf as sort of a reference guide.
      But yeah, Geddy was really nice to everyone. He was doing fist bumps which was cool. I told him of how I was a fan of theirs since their first album. I was only 8 years old and I really liked that first album. Fly By Night blew me away. My older brother turned me onto them since I was only 8 at the time and couldn't afford to buy records.
      Fun times!

    This steampunk theme was for their last album Clockwork Angels . It was a full concept album and Rush were always about the details.
    They actually had a 40 plus year career. I would check out the whole induction right from when they are introduced to The Foo Fighters inducting them which is hilarious to Rush's speech. Alex's is iconic LOL
    The RRHOF is a joke! So many excellent bands especially those that aren't "Merican" are not in it yet there is rap crap and disco.
    It took Rush's fans pushing to get them inducted.
    For Neil's drum solos check out his solo from Frankfurt, also Where's My Thing/ Here it is live in Dallas
    To see more of their steampunk set and a banger song.
    Caravan from the Time Machine Tour live in Cleveland
    Cheers

    I appreciate your enthusiasm and love of Rush. The first time I saw them live was during the Signals tour. Absolutely mind blowing. They sounded exactly like the album, and every time I saw them they sounded exactly the same. Beyond that brilliance was watch two roadies spinning the drum set like a merry-go-round while Neil did his solo, flipping sticks straight up in the air - and catching them in full spin - without missing a beat or a snare or a high hat or a drum fill. Absolutely phenomenal band! You should do the entire 2112 album. The “three-man orchestra” at their very best.🔥🤙

    If I remember correctly, they did not use their regular sound board. RRHOF had their own system in place and they had to play off of that. It's why it sounds so compressed. In an arena, with their own sound equipment and engineers... They sounded AWESOME! I always loved the little ending they added to this. Very hard and in your face but also simplistic as well. Love these guys! There will never be another band like them!

    I think you need to get your hearing checked. Geddy's voice here is atrocious. Still love him and Rush, but his voice isn't what it was, and hasn't been for at least 20 years. That's not a criticism, it's just nature. Vocalists have a much more finite span of time to be great. His voice has always been very polarizing, and I believe the reason they weren't more successful in the first place. Even I have a hard time listening to Rush aside from instrumentals, before moving pictures, and definitely before hemispheres. Maybe that's why I enjoyed their 90s material so much.

  • @traci4187
    @traci4187 ปีที่แล้ว

    "It sounds like they rehearsed this song like 1,000 times." Well, pretty much - I think they played it at every concert since the song came out, plus all the rehearsals, sound-checks, and whatever else. 1,000 times is not an unreasonable estimate.

  • @Murdo2112
    @Murdo2112 ปีที่แล้ว

    I will never, ever forget the ovation they got when they were announced in the opening of this ceremony.
    After decades of loving a band that was not, generally, considered "cool" by the mainstream, to see them finally receive that level of adulation was an exceptionally emotional experience.
    The fans all knew how much they were loved, as did the band themselves, but for the rest of the world to witness just how much these three blokes meant to us all... it was beautiful.
    I'll never forget Geddy's wife's face, as she sat, eyes wide, with her hand over her mouth.
    It was a supremely special moment.

    You can tell that GEDDY is older here as he can't really belt out those high notes... They were successful because they didn't squabble - they did things democratically - they had a clear definition of who did what - Peart wrote the Lyrics - Lee and Lifeson wrote the music.
