I own a 2021 WR250R and for the last 5 months that I’ve had it it truly has been the love of my life. I live in Colorado and I take that thing to work, dual trails, back roads, flat open country. I couldn’t be more happy with my bike. I’ve had no issues with it so far. Maintenance is so minimal especially since it’s a dual. Truly a bike to commend for its awesomeness.

Nice review! I have had some GREAT times on my WRR. Day rides, multi-day rides, camping from it and just plain old joy rides. You hit on the high points of it and you did a good job of describing how to see it's limitations. It's my only bike and that happens to fit my lifestyle, but it also makes a great compliment to your 'quiver' if you have more than one. Certainly, it covers several levels, as you said Yammie. It has the newbie covered, it has the first time dirt rider covered--with room to grow as you get better, it is a great around town bike (albeit with high seat height). It is cheap to buy, cheap to own, dead reliable, highly capable in the duel sport market. Sad that they discontinued it, but I hold out hope that there is a WR300R coming with the updated styling that you talk about, euro 5 emissions, etc.

As a WR owner, I endorse this endorsement!
It is a really flexible and relatively affordable first bike platform, and with relatively simple mods can be a lightweight ADV bike, an urban hooligan supermoto, a single track capable street bike, etc. The KTM 350 EXC-F is certainly more capable, but for almost TWICE the price, it effing ought to be. I have beat mine up a lot learning to ride trails, and without a truck and/or trailer, dual sport is the only way to learn!
Enjoy your new ride Papa Yam!

I think most people miss the true purpose of “adventure” bikes. Yami included.
I don’t currently own or simp for ADV bikes... But I think they have a good place in the market.
They are touring bikes that have a bit of capability to take you off road. They’re meant to be comfortable tourers that can possibly take you down a fire road or 2.
Some ADV bikes are more off road biased (T7) than others. But all are meant to give a decent road experience over off-road.
I think the uninformed consumer is why the ADV market gets a bad wrap. They think their 450lb ADV will be able to single track and climb gnarly hills... Which of course is not the case.

I have a Wr250r. I’ll be honest I’ve never been too interested in your channel but this really piques my interest. I enjoy learning about sport bikes but it’s just not my scene. I’ll own a sportbike one day but I went from the Harley cruiser life to a Wr250r and I couldn’t be happier.

I’ve a DR650SE and it’s awesome, did all the essential things ( re - jetted, suspension, seat, exhaust, 20 litre tank etc ) and its awesome. It’s My 1st bike, thought about the WR250 but it cost a bit more, and I eventually want go around Australia

Great video by the way - just got back from an off-road trip from sequoia National Forrest to Yosemite on one of these. 350 miles of Offroad / trail ecstasy. Great bike. You can whip it like a bad mule and it just takes it in stride.

I started on a Lambretta in 1992 but bought a Svartpilen in 2019. I've been planning on buying a T7 this summer but recently decided I want a lighter bike for all the same reasons I bought the Svart. Shopping for a WR250R or equivalent now. Good on you mate!

I love this bike so much. I've ridden it in the rocky mountains, motocross (fun on ramps and jumps etc. not competitive), forest trails, city commuting, and highway to get where I need to go without a trailer.
You'll never compete with full off road and motocross bikes, but if you're going for fun you won't suffer much either.
Maintenance is trivial, spend more time riding less time working on it.
Great video, spot on about low end torque compared to 400, buuuuut the rpm on this bike goes much higher and the power band stretches well so you get used to keeping the revs higher and you'll rarely feel short on juice. 😉

I’m going to ride a used one tomorrow. I own a 2017 GS Adventure, but having very little off-pavement experience, I find it somewhat intimidating, though I’m progressing. So the big bike doesn’t stop me, but it does slow me down and make me think twice a lot.
The little WR250R is so light and with such great suspension that I feel like I could learn a lot on it, and honestly just bop around to different off-pavement locations fairly close by. I’ll keep the GSA for longer rides that might involve gravel and moderate 2-track, and for 2-up riding.

I have the 2020 model. I did some upgrades and got the Zeta hand guards with integrated blinkers, intergrated tail light package from SR moto and also a lower seat from seat concepts. Looks and feels much better and the new seat is much more comfortable, dropped it 3/4 inch. Those giant blinkers and taillight had to go. It is great bike and very happy with my purchase!

How tall are you im 5'6" and thinking about getting the same seat how much of a difference did it make?

    • @sotheysay4040
      @sotheysay4040 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@elpockrandt7908 I am 5”10, the seat dropped it I believe 3/4 of inch according to the description on their website, which made some differences and it feels better/safer, nearly to the arch of my foot but not flat footed, so about half of my foot which is enough, better than nearly tip toeing like prior to the seat, but even after seating on it for day or two the shocks loosened up a little and dropped a bit. It Works for me but for your height I would say you might need more. There is also something called the Yamaha link which drops it some more, and can also do a factory lowering of the forks I believe for a little more downsize! I only did the seat and worked enough for me but might add the link at some point. I still need to research on it because I forgot if their is any affects of adding it, but the seat lowered just enough for me though! I would definitely lower it though because it feels too high originally, and I wouldn’t take it past 55-60mph at that height even with my adjustment I take it easy and mainly ride the hills and just the city no highway, just feels to sketchy on the highway with those tires and and being so tall. But I love the bike and looks cherry with the upgrades I did. Ride safe!

I know you posted this video 2 years ago. I'm 62. I started riding mostly dirt bikes when I was a young teen. Although I'm sure dirt bikes & DS from the 70's & 80's didn't have nothing on what they have today. Although I had seat/standing time & darn near sitting on the fuel tank at times. Just the way you rode them old 2 cycles. YZ's & RM's. I'm sure RM stood for Radical Mother. Over the years I got into street bikes. K-frame 550's, 750's etc.. Then cruisers. The bike I have now is a low mileage V-Star 1100. It's a fine bike & I'm sure I'll keep that one. But at my age I just don't do a lot of long weekend rides anymore. I just commute to & from work or town. About 20 miles round trip. Been looking online at used WR's because they don't make them anymore. I'd like to get one & I'm sure I will. I think it will suit me fine for commuting and if I leave my driveway to the west. I have miles and miles of gravel roads to ride on. If I go camping I think I can get it in the back of my E250 van a lot easier then a 800lb cruiser. What tires would you recommend for mostly street riding, gravel roads & mild trail riding? I just hope a bike like that don't give me the false idea that I'm still young. Because to be honest with you. Back in my dirt bike days. I liked flying them (jumping them) more then riding them. Got Air? Lol. Thank you. Donnie. PS. For street riding. Should I add a steering damper if they make one for a WR?

This is what I’d want. I live in the country, lots of land and woods. My commute to work is 15 minutes 90% empty backroads. Man that would be such a good time no matter where I’m going with it.

definitely agree with the part about being uncomfortable. what's the point of getting out of a car just to complain about the wind and rain? the open air is what makes motorcycling magical embrace it

I own both a GS adventure bike and a WR dual sport. I started my off roading with the GS and GS trophy riders going places most wouldn’t approve of taking big ADV bikes. The WR was my Segway to a true dirtbike. I wish I’d of bought a true dirtbike after a year on it, but it’s still such a great bike that I don’t want to switch to a high maintenance dirtbike yet.
