I started a mobility scooter business quite recently. I was lucky to have sold a property I bought at auction 5 years ago for a decent profit so I had some spare capital lying around doing not much. I contacted a manufacturer and bought 10 scooters brand new at a decent discount. The mobility scooter in question weighs only 17Kg, 4mph top speed and folds to a suitcase size within a few seconds. The good thing is, having only foldable scooters requires very little storage space.
I have 3 main hire rates as follows:
3 day rate (minimum hire period) 58.50 (19.50 per day)
4 day rate 70.00 (17.50 per day)
7 day rate 105.00 (15.00 per day)
Delivery/Pickup is chargeable at 25.00 or free if picked up by the client.
Longer hire periods are negotiable.
Gross turnover is presently averaging between 3,500 - 5000 per month.
On the 25,000 investment I am on course to break even within the 7 month period I initially set. Once I break even I will purchase another 10 scooters with the intent of doubling existing turnover.
Hire agreement, public liability insurance, mobility scooter insurance and a 15 to 30 minute handover with the client is very important.
Please do not request my business details as I wish to remain anonymous. I don't wish every Tom, Dick and Harry to compete near me. I know that is being very selfish but we live in a cutthroat world and it is every man (and woman) for themselves.
