I did my CELTA with St Giles. They have branches in the UK and USA. They have a 99% pass rate! I actually did my CELTA in my home city, and found that really useful because I could stay with family. They helped me so much by cooking meals (to make sure I ate!), letting me use their printers and being quiet and considerate when I was working. I deactivated Facebook for the month as well to really focus - I suggest all CELTA trainees do this!
The course is open to experienced teachers and people who have never taught before. I actually think it's easier for the totally inexperienced people. The CELTA method is very precise and if you're currently teaching, you may have to adopt some new practices or undo some habits in order to comply with the CELTA way. Remember that although the month-long course is very intensive and informative, the training centre and the trainers really have your best interests at heart. They want you to pass! They'll do what they can to help you get the best score to reflect your teaching abilities. So be open to their feedback and advice, learn from it and put it into practice.

Isobel Rigg so I have the option to do a celta course abroad within the next two weeks or wait 2 months for a celta course in my home country. I am so torn on what to do as I want to start working sooner but I'd rather stay in my own home during the course. What do you think?

Thank you for the video, it was super informative. I have recently started the course online, part time with a branch in Spain and although it is quite tiring, (working full time in primary education) I have been enjoying it a lot and looking forward to each course day. Working with students via zoom is different from a real classroom, but we learn to use online tools and that is quite useful these days. Being able to do learning and teaching from the comfort of my home is brilliant and my teachers are super nice and supportive. I watched your video for the first time before I started the course and I found it super helpful. Just wanted to leave this here for those who are thinking to do the course online - it is great! It is also nice studying with people from all around the world, learning about each others' cultures and countries.

@@hopelol200 Well, it's really impossible to describe the course, you just need to experience it yourself to get any idea what it is like. I tell you this, you must be very well prepared mentally cause there is a constant pressure on you and after the first week you might just feel overwhelmed with the tasks. Having a lot of free time every evening is necessary to cope with that. The support of the tutors however is abolutely incredible, real professionals who relentlessly double down on your mistakes telling you exactly which aspects of your classes need improving. They are very specific about it, so I had the feeling I finally began to understand what teaching is really about :) Great pressure - yes - but the satisfaction you get when you pass - priceless! And now I am working in a private school in Poland, the most renowned one in my city - and CELTA certificate was all they need about my credentials :)

They have a part time option which takes longer to complete but gives you more time between the classes, which I personally feel that I need as I am very easily prone to anxiety attacks. Reading your response made me feel like it's certainly worth the stress and pressure however. I'm very glad you found a job at a renowned place! You deserve it 👏👏

Sophie, thank you very much for this video, you really helped me a lot to decide to take this course but first I have to improve my English, I dont feel confident yet to teach anybody or to answer the pre interview task.

Doha Du hey doha I’m from Algeria too, and I’m considering the celta too. I’m terrified too tbh. Hit me up on my instagram @ze.art.nerd maybe we can prepare for it together.

I am also nervous! There are some CELTA preparation classes you can do before. I plan to do 3 week preparation. It does sound unnecessarily rigorous.

You can take one of the longer courses if you don't want to be completely swamped, 4 weeks is the shortest one so they have a lot to get in. There's a reason the CELTA is so highly valued and it's because you do so much work and prove that you can handle stress and hard work. If you want to live as an expat you have to know how to deal with both.

I'm so daunted by the amount of stuff you have to fit in in the few hours in the evenings and at the weekends. I'm thinking a one day a week option would suit me better.... I have seen this option available but I'd have to do it in my home country.

Hey. I was wondering if we could as a part time teacher; cause I was planning to be an English teacher while being in university. So you know, I can't be a full time teacher. Is there anyway to figure that out?

I’d like to teach but I’m scared of speaking to a large group of people as I’m always feeling I’m not that good... does CELTA teach you to overcome those feelings as well? 😁Is it fundamental to have some previous experience abroad, eg. as a student or for job purposes? Thanks 😇

Darn I had to rewind little bits sometimes because I got lost in your eyes 🙈 Anyways, I'm a dutch 30yo guy, lived in Australia for 2 years and received many compliments regarding my english skills. Made me rethink about my life and that I should do something with it. Always worked in sales/logistics, so was a bit scared to take a step to become a teacher (eventhough I'm a pretty confident speaker) and going abroad again, but this vid was just the last little push I needed, thanks! 👌

Dear Sofie, I like your videos a lot. I am an English teacher and I am starting the CELTA course at IH accademia britannica, Rome, this July. I thought I might ask you some questions with regard to the lessons there if you dont mind. 1) How long are the lessons you have to teach? 1 hour? Once you know the level of the sts, can you choose the topic(s) yourself (e.g. A2 class - present simple and everyday activities) or you have to follow your tutor's suggestions (e.g. today we would like you to teach a lesson on present perfect simple vs continuous)? Thank you! Clem :) Have a good one!

Hi Sofie, your video was very helpful, I'm going to start the CELTA course in a few days. I'm only concerned about the fact that, even if you state that CELTA certificate is highly regarded by employers, you are actually a native speaker, so you are considered more than other teachers with the same certificate but non-native. Can you tell me your thoughts? Many thanks 😀
