Thanks for all the positivity on this video everyone! I have another video coming soon going deeper into Disney urban exploring, so keep an eye out for that one!
I legitimately remember Cranium Command, albeit it vaguely, because I was a kid when I saw it. I have mentioned it on and off to my mom when we talk about the older Disney World stuff. I remember this pavilion and I remember being so confused when I got older because it was all gone. My brother still remembers "Veggie, Veggie: Fruit, Fruit" but I have no memory of it. But I remember Cranium Command and I started to think that despite my mom knowing about it, and giving me the name, that I was totally crazy about it existing because I never heard of it even from Disney Historian channels I've seen. So seeing this was a blast from the past and I'm really not surprised someone stole Buzzy - but it's so weird. Thank you for the trip down memory lane and the interesting story to boot!
As a former DL attraction cast member and frequent researcher at the Disney archives....1) removal of AA figures is not as clean as you would think. If it's a figure removed for maintenance it is done with care. If it's removed because of closure, then it's a quick cut job. 2) the archives are super backlogged with items and I'd say over 65% is not catalogued. A huge collection was sent to Japan in the 60s for an exhibit and was forgotten about until 2005. Buzzy is most likely sitting next to Hoot Gibson and WYZ ol' Owl still waiting for an official acquisition number.
I was going to say, all those lines have connectors _inside_ the chassis of the animatronic - the cut job does damage, sure, but if the figure is ever reused, it would get new lines anyway. I don't work for Disney, but I do a lot of work in industrial automation. There are connections inside things because you never know how long a line will need to be, and having it attached permanently creates more problems than alleviating them.
In that case, then I guess the biggest wrinkle is why Disney didn't correct the reports of the entire AA being stolen if [redacted] only swiped his clothes.
@@natthews it was turned into a book,"The Art of Disney"in 2006. In 1960 an exhibit,"Walt Disney's The Art of Animation" toured Japan. At the end of the tour all the pieces ended up at Chiba University, put into storage, and were forgotten about...until 2005 when they were rediscovered. The Disney archives wasn't even established until after Walt's passing in 1966, so who knows how much other stuff has been misplaced.
Hi there friends! We run an exhaustive archive of everything related to Wonders of Life. We have personally spoken with over 30 people involved with the development, execution and upkeep of Cranium Command, and have corresponded with urban explorers, the Walt Disney Archives and Orange County Sheriff's Office regarding the theft. What Mr. Browning has presented here is a very accurate timeline of events, and he is correct in stating we truly just don't know what happened to Buzzy! He is still considered missing, and is absolutely not in the archives. His hat, headphones, and jacket have been returned to Disney by the person who bought them. His hands were not taken, as they were replaced by brown fabric gloves in 1992. These gloves were stolen in 2012 and have not been recovered. Besides the clothes, we have seen hide nor hair of Buzzy following his disappearance. ):
I have a very boring theory: While people were stealing 'souvenirs' from the attraction, I would think one of the easiest things to steal would be-- the tag that says "do not destroy". It's possible it was stolen shortly before the clothes, so during disassembly the imagineers went "Whelp, we should probably remove the naked animatronic." and cut it down, not immediately realizing that he was meant to be saved due to the lack of a tag. With the hydraulic lines cut, it's possible that by the time they realized he was meant to be saved (Or didn't realize it at all) there was no saving Buzzy as-is, and he's being kept for spare parts or destroyed. No idea though, I just kinda stumbled in here and enjoyed learning about an attraction I'd never heard of! Great video!
i hadn't thought about this until you just mentioned it, but i can absolutely believe this. the tag would be the easiest thing to take, second to the clothes, and it would explain the way the wires were cut. although i would be and already am entirely heartbroken to find out buzzy, through no fault of his own, was destroyed bc someone took his "do not destroy" tag. :(
Makes sense it's also possible they changed their minds and decided to destroy it or recyle the parts given the ride wasn't exactly popular even for a short time after it opened
Ex disneyland employee here. I remember when I worked there hearing a story about the Park having to pay out a huge lawsuit over some compliance issue over the Winnie The Pooh ride. A couple months after it was settled, someone found the required paperwork that would have prevented the payout in the bottom of a file cabinet in the office of a fired employee. All I could think watching this is that Disneyworld could totally absolutely misplace Buzzy. Heck Ive heard plenty of stories of huge ass movie props bigger than Buzzy being found decades later in storage units or attics.
I mean, powerful nations have misplaced nuclear warheads. I can absolutely believe he's been simply been misplaced and forgotten about. Look at the attraction as it stood the last time we saw Buzzy, they were using the introductory theater for bulk storage of random crap and Buzzy's room was completely abandoned!
Wasn't the wiring and all in his mount/stand sloppily cut, though? If Disney themselves removed Buzzy for the archives or whatever, I doubt they would take a figurative hacksaw to hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment.
@@mjung7331 because it's a massive corporation full of corruption. It's pretty common for things to get lost, misplaced, hidden, or forgotten about, even in smaller businesses or organizations
The #1 rule of public space urbex is “look, don’t touch, absolutely don’t take.” and it breaks my heart that Buzzy suffered. It would be a dream to sneak into ANYTHING hidden away by Disney and the company itself appears to know that- just like cast members don’t speak about non-park-things, urbex shouldn’t take what’s not theirs. It’s DISNEY! Don’t break our magic if you want to explore. And for you George? This video is phenomenal and I’m about to binge your channel :D
@@mjung7331 It’s a combo of factors but since my OG comment I have theme park work experience now, so the rule of thumb for condemned attractions was as follows: 1) Not your license, don’t damage it. If you didn’t own 100% of the property there is usually a contract in the way that prohibits destruction after closure, even if the product remains in the park. 2) Demo costs (my #1 suspicion for Buzzy’s situation). Especially with older attractions or attractions that use outdated tech, gas lines, etc. the removal process would often require hazmat teams or special equipment to remove in a way that would allow you to re-zone the attraction (think when a gas station closes and it takes a few years of teams doing soil test and renovations, but on a smaller scale). No secret that this attraction was plain out high quality, so construction was probably pretty conscious about use of toxic materials/ how electronics were gridded/ so on, but in the time since it was sunsetted, lots of new material and carcinogen regulations have dropped that would probably mean disney would need to shell out extra for non-Castmember teams to survey the area. 3) (To be considered with point 2) the building that housed Buzzy is on the more enclosed, “built around the attraction” side, in contrast to things like parks that had the Plants v. Zombies theatre, which could be fully gutted but still function as a facility because so few of the components were permanently affixed- so if the attraction manager wanted/needed to keep any of the props or there were plans for the lot/set, it would operate more like a mansion renovation- even more costly. (Quick note that Disney is a billion dollar company and is even the target of a massive worldwide boycott currently, so it’s super frustrating to call them cheap, but they still cut corners like you wouldn’t believe to keep the park operating costs down). Point 4) is a bit more conjecture, but Disney has a habit of condemning and abandoning rides because keeping “active” buildings on land allows you to still invest in that plot of land, inflating the property value (same way that apartment owners in america love to leave 50% or so of the rooms vacant, invest back into the property to make it more expensive so if they ever bankrupt or loose money, they can liquidate the building and it’s a bit like cashing a check) where it would give them more money to eventually liquidate than it would to demolish/renovate/open a new attraction. I agree with your logic on the situation (because it is logical)- if you don’t enforce security and you don’t want things destroyed, do it yourself- that’s the solution most family owned parks and other types of businesses take, but there’s a really high change the property tax for the zone and quality of the building was cheaper to keep there than it would be to scan, reno/demo, open new project. My fifth idea is 100% conjecture but since Disney holds their licenses so tight, they may have found a backhanded way to profit off Urbex lol. If you or someone reads this and wants to do the math, that’d be a cool experiment, and I’d love to see how my experience holds up to scrutiny, but hopefully this comment essay gives you something to work with if you keep researching this or learning about the world of abandoned projects/parks :) I would look into essay’s about Ghost Town in the Sky in Maggie Valley for these same points explained in spoken format if that’s more effective for your learning style :D
The one who stole Buzzy is almost certainly Backdoor Disney. They deleted their entire social media after posting pictures and being accused, and did steal other things. Most likely what ended up happening is, because Buzzy was such a popular character, and it was widely known he'd been stolen, it wasn't safe to sell him, and so he was likely parted out, either sold in pieces or disposed of. It is the most likely situation, given this user was caught lying about the same attraction Buzzy was stolen from before, and altering parts of the police records on it when he was interviewed about it. Overall, I don't think we'll ever find Buzzy because the animatronic is no longer in one piece. He's probably been in a landfill for years now at this point, which is incredibly sad to think about.
I mean, how do we even know that's what happened to him?🤨 It could very well be possible he could still be in one piece somewhere... You never know, miracles have happened before! ^-^
Perhaps he sold it to someone who was very rich, as he got lot of money he managed to be silent about it. Anyway explorers like this makes me so angry, ruining it for everyone else for selfish money. Though it's Disney own fault too, like why was there no security camera and why was it so easy to steal.
Buzzy's getting lost is not that improbable even with his size. The carousel originally had two chariots which were removed when the ride was being prepared for Disney World, so they could have more horses. When they decided later on that chariots would be nice for guests with mobility issues, they couldn't find them. One was located in a warehouse in 1996 but the other is still missing. If they could find a chariot after 25 years Buzzy could still turn up.
@@marchingbandtakemebythehan1887 I've been to Disneyland Paris and those are casts. See The Vault of Walt by Jim Korkis for the whole story of the chariots.
@@jaynekranc8607 according to Richard Gardner, in the book, PTC carousels, "the two very beautiful and elegant Roman style chariots that occupied PTC 46, are now on the Disneyland, Paris carousel." If they were replicas, that would've been noted a very long time ago. So You're probably thinking of the Paris horses which are fiberglass copies of PTC 46 a.k.a. The Walt Disney world carousel.
He should've just waited for his lawyer to have legally gotten it back since it would've taken a while for them to get a warrant but since he grabbed it that probably gave the cops probable cause to search it and his house
There were no security cameras in the Wonders of Life pavilion. At opening, the only cameras in the building were in the Body Wars wing and only transmitted a live feed to the attraction's control tower. After they were decommissioned, there was no security of any type in there.
Even with cameras in the right spots, it's still a big task of finding the footage and hopefully it wasn't written over like much security footage is after a certain period of time.
I clicked on this video genuinely believing that you have at least 100k subscribers and I'm shocked it's not so. You make absolutely great, top-tier videos. This was an excellent dive into Buzzy's history and you compiled the information beautifully. I'm a fan!
Thank you sooo much, it makes us so sad to see misinformation spread! This was indeed a plug owned by a collector, that is why it is on a stand. You can see a similar Buzzy "head" in the background of the Imagineering Story, episode 3, just a few seconds in!
I remember my days back in film school. One class involved us making a professional documentary. One group did one on Urban Exploration. They had the chance to interview 4 professional Urban explorers (they were unnamed and had their faces censored to conceal identities). During said documentary I learned that the Urban Explorer community has a ton of people who do a lot of things differently when on a site. But they all follow one principal, this being called the "The Urbex Code". A mantra that states "Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints". Yea I can imagine some people break this code but from what I have heard from the guys in the documentary is that the community looks down at explorers who break it and and even go as far as to report anyone who committed theft while in action.
I still have hopes that Buzzy will be found. I do think its plausible that Disney employees did move the animatronic shortly after his clothes were taken, but again the "hack" job makes no sense as Disney wouldn't allow for that kind of thing unless something happened to Buzzy in between his stolen clothes and him being stolen that made his condition far worse. If the person (who I won't say, but know who) had accidentally damaged or knocked Buzzy over from his chair while removing the clothes, then the hydraulics being damaged plus the weight could have lead to maybe a rip or tear and it was just easier to "hack" at the hydraulics then attempt to save them. Then them just removing Buzzy would make some sense to prevent thefts and further damage, but Disney not knowing wouldn't make sense and here again you are talking about an oversized high up animatronic. The only other way to take him down would be like a fork lift. It is still possible the person who took Buzzy's clothes did take Buzzy, but considering that it looks like all they have is what appears to be a head mold of Buzzy makes me assume otherwise. They wouldn't just take Buzzy's head off and it would be near impossible to regardless. I do think they did find a head mold of Buzzy and took the mold, possibly left near the attraction as "spare parts". Either way the case of the missing naked animatronic is interesting and hopefully he gets found.
This "Buzzy was damaged during the clothing theft so Disney just cut him out" theory is actually super plausible and I hadn't thought about it in that way before! Could explain why it was such a messy job.
We have seen photos of Buzzy immediately following the clothing theft, and he was still in perfectly fine condition, just a tiny bit jostled and shaken up. (: He could not have been knocked out of his chair as the chair was part of him...! All of his wiring and tubing goes through the chair, up his backside and into the animatronic. There was a maintenance lift directly beneath Buzzy for him to be worked on throughout his lifespan, and when the scene was investigated, the lift had power to it.
Also, the rides were NOT kept in pristine condition! There was mold in the air ducts! AND please don't go poking around defunct attractions, it's VERY Dangerous!!! (I used to be a cast member, we didn't even go poking around). Please know that employees are searched even in company vehicles, you can't sneak things out, and if you do, know that someone, somewhere is watching and they are likely letting you get away with it temporarily to gather more evidence. There are cameras everywhere!
Hi. Scott Curtis here… I’m Buzzy. This is a great video! I uploaded a #findBuzzy video on my channel a year ago. I spoke to a mechanic that worked at EPCOT from day 1, he says Buzzy was stolen. Thank you for keeping Buzzy alive!!
The worker may have tried to cut Buzzy down, but realized how hard it would be to move him, so he only took his clothes. It’s possible he told others or someone else found the animatronic on their own and pulled a heist, since it was already cut down. This is a crazy story, and hopefully we can get answers soon. Great video, keep up the good work!
This is not what happened, the clothes were taken in a separate event months prior to the removal of the figure. There was no intention to remove anything other than the clothes at that time, nor was any attempt made.
@@DreamfinderGuy thanks for the info! i was just making an assumption from the info in the video, but the fact that these were months apart is pretty interesting.
@@notomatoesonmytaco Of course! I've been involved with this story for a long while so I always try my best to get more information about it out there. Another fun fact, at the time the clothes were stolen it wasn't even the first time someone stole clothing off of the figure. Six years prior someone stole his gloves, which is why you see bare animatronic hands in later photos and video.
I remember being subbed to Backstage Disney for a while and then wondering why he stopped uploading shortly after the Buzzy theft. He ran a good channel, had no idea he was stealing and flipping ride dressings at the time. Absolutely wild case. Hope Buzzy gets found eventually
Hate to say it, but its very likely after Buzzy's clothes were stolen they likely cut it down themselves, I mean look at how clean that cut was, those were hydraulic cables, you'd need something like a power saw to hack though those, not a knife. I hate to be a downer, but 10+ years and not being in service, while they may have been trying to keep the animatronic and area clean, they probably weren't doing much in the way of maintenance, and animatronics can degrade and rust over time. Once it started getting vandalized they probably made a corporate decision to cut it down for storage as quickly as possible. If they ever brought the animatronic back again, it is unlikely they would use the old bot, they would likely made a new one.
My best theory is one of the workers who loved Buzzy and his ride wanted to save him from being destroyed or forgotten in storage, so they removed him, smuggled him out and took him to their home or other location to keep him safe until the time is right for Buzzy to be found.
@@notmyselfusee Ah, he could not have fit in a stroller...! Buzzy was almost 5 feet tall, weighed several hundred pounds, and could not be removed from his command seat. Sorry to ruin your funny mental image! 😅
Update: I don’t think anyone will see this but I was talking with someone who is friends with Pete Doctor and worked at Disney for 18 years. He said after the whole case was over Disney put the clothes back on Buzzy, polished him up and is now in the archives after the theatre had been demolished. Hypothalamus was stolen too, but I can’t confirm he is in the archives. I’m like 85% sure he is though.
I miss so much the educational aspects of Epcot, it feels *good* to at least feel as though you are learning something. I don't think anybody really felt like it was boring or uninteresting, so its sad the company decided we did
Disney should totally bring this attraction back, complete with original characters like Buzzy. I think a good spot is to replace the Pixar shorts theatre?
My personal theory, he was reskinned, his skeleton used for another anamatronic. The wire cut since it was to bulky to fit with the new ride. Especially since a wire that thick could not have been cut by anyone but people with the industrial equipment and no way an industrial power cutter is getting into disney undetected.
I'm kicking myself that despite going to the Disney World parks on and off since 1999 thanks to my cast member father, I never knew about that pavilion, let alone there were 2 full blown rides I could have experienced and only knew years after they permanently closed. I knew there was more to the Future World that I haven't properly discovered, your video has been informative and very well made.
“Disney advised ____ had photographs of other animatronics that were reported stolen last year” Other animatronics were stolen? I want to hear more about those and I wonder why no one knows anything about those.
I wonder if that was a mistake in the vid. Other props and costumes were stolen, but this is the first in any vid I've heard of other animatronics stolen.
But that guy the one that stole the clothing from the haunted mansion is guilty He only just stole his clothes. So that means the animatronic is in the archive Only leaving his echo skeleton and his head
This is such a great video -- I remember following the story "live" on Twitter at the time! My personal theory is that Disney found out Buzzy's clothes had been stolen and the message to maintenance was to get the animatronic out as quickly and safely as possible. There wasn't time to have all the wiring carefully extracted from the show because that would take a couple of days to disassemble and Disney didn't want to risk someone coming back in the meantime, so the maintenance team just cut the animatronic out. It's not been logged as being stored anywhere because, after all, it was a Disney employee who was accused of stealing from the attraction in the first place. IDK, after working in corporate for a long time, I can imagine a message coming "from the top" saying "I don't care how it's done, just get the damn Buzzy animatronic out of there by the end of the day before those damn kids come back for it" and that's exactly what the maintenance team did.
This is probably the most accurate theory I’m aware of. If exploring the urban, abandoned parts of Disney was popular, between breaks people would probably try to get in, claiming to be maintenance.
This might be it. It’s crazy to think that Disney did NOTHING knowing that people were getting in and out of the show building and stealing things. And the thief seems like a narcissistic who would want people to think he’s an amazing evil genius that successfully stole Buzzy and even a massive corporation like Disney couldn’t find him because he’s so smart…. I hope this theory is correct because it’s sad to think that Buzzy was probably sold and is destroyed at this point
@@newvision4l314a lot of public space Urban Explorers follow a “Look, don’t touch, and definitely don’t take” mentality and maybe Disney figured that if things weren’t going missing with people doing it already, it was a “no harm no foul” sort of agreement if they managed to pull it off and get by security, and had bought a ticket to the park.
George, you assume that the company would have been the one to lie to police on the official report. Because the stories already existed about trespassers, it's entirely possible that the police thought it would be advantageous to include false information on the document. There is nothing to preclude the police in the US from making things up entirely during interviews or interrogations, and no reason to think that this wouldn't be one of those things falsified on the report to entrap a suspect. Nonetheless, nice work on the video and strong detective work overall. Thanks.
Police reports, Fire Reports, EMS run sheets and Medical Charts are considered to be born as sworn documents. Lying on them or making stuff up is extremely bad. Career ending bad. Massive civil litigation bad. Cops very quickly learn that their own best protection is to simply document what they see and what everybody says. They do this because doing it this way keeps them immunized from problems.
That...entirely makes sense, as the suspect, depending on how arrogant or whatever they were, would then say something along the lines of 'no, it happened this way'.
My thought has always been... Disney rushed to archive him after the activities of urban explorers. It was likely least expensive to just remove the AA by detaching the "seat" and cutting the hydraulic lines. If they ever put Buzzy on display, they wouldn't need the arm or the hydraulic lines. And then Disney has a *lot* of employees, and people make mistakes. It's possible that the employee who reported the theft had the wrong information. He could have just been sitting in a crate in a warehouse waiting to be archived. Who knows how well their archiving system works after their big archivist, Dave Smith, retired in 2010.
Idk how many people know about this but a documentary called Stolen Kingdom is being made about wrongdoings at Disney world. Apparently it’s gonna focus at lot on Buzzy’s theft and I’m wondering if new information will be released. There’s still no release date for it though but I’m looking forward to watching it. I kinda love cold case stories like this one
I remember a ride that opened up as Cranium Command did, with an animated intro that took place in some sort of academy before turning into a first-person live action sequence from the perspective of a schoolboy. I was too young to remember much else. I think Cranium Command was that ride.
such an interesting video! i havent heard about buzzy in a long while, and ive never heard about the clothing being stolen part!! thank you for putting so much research into it!
I’m guessing they caught wind of the clothing being stolen and had the figure removed out of fear that it’d be vandalized further. The cords being cut like that isn’t very surprising either considering they’re completely replaceable and inexpensive since it looks like they’re just air valves. With the figure not being used again in any future projects it seems likely that they could do that
There's no doubt in my mind that Buzzy was eventually stolen. I really hope that one day the animatronic does came back to Disney and is stored in the archives where he belongs. If Buzzy wasn't stolen. I'd expect that Disney would tell the police that the animatronic would be in the archives safe and sound. :(
Some point you should do a video on what happened to the Playhouse Disney Live on Stage puppets. It was said that all the puppets were destroyed by Disney for two reasons: their disinterest in storing things, and to make room for more storage. But this remains unconfirmed, the reliable source said it’s what they _think_ happened.
i mean... it could happen to some of the electronics there but , i think it didn't happen to this one. they seemed to somehow care about buzzy , you see , if buzzy was removed and distroyed for place expanding reasons they would have removed every thing else related to that place from earlier as with his chair , the audience seats and all the other tv screens as well as they would've stored and putted all the other stuff that's useless or extra from the park , or maybe they wouldn't do all of that now because maybe they don't have a new idea to change that place into something different yet , but that doesn't change the conclusion that they would've absultely changed the place that buzzy was in
If there was a festival going on around the time of the theft, I find it highly possible that a festival vendor who was also a Disney nerd could have stolen him. They would have reason to be moving heavy boxes in and out of personal vehicles, and the multiple days of festival time would allow them to inspect Buzzy and come back with the necessary tools. If Disney really did remove him, cutting the lines is very reasonable. Depending on how they connect, it's possible that accessing the connectors would have been very difficult with Buzzy mounted on the arm, and the hoses would have been thrown out anyways. They probably cut them, got him down, then removed the chopped ends from his back. Also, there's a good chance he was considered a permanent installation, and so there were no connectors used. Maybe he was permanently connected to the hydraulic system.
As depressing as it sounds I don’t think buzzy is even fully intact anymore if he was stolen. The chances of cutting a heavy animatronic and carrying it out without anyone noticing seems unlikely especially if they were a guest. Since his clothes were stolen first I think after awhile someone took him piece by piece there’s even a chance Disney realized this before they were able to take everything so they just decided to destroy him. It would explain why they did declare him as stolen and why nobody has seen him since he was either sold to private collectors or Disney threw him away or both
Buzzy grew up to become Scott Cawthon, creator of Five Nights At Freddy's, which it turns out is autobiographical based on Buzzy's experiences behind the scenes at Disney. The more you know.
It's funny how it goes from having a tag to be moved to storage to suddenly stolen, even though it appears to have been moved in a perfectly normal way, and people think somehow a 300lb animatronic made it out of the park unnoticed, crazy
I remember reading an article on this. And funny thing is I remember watching those videos about Buzzy before he was reported stolen. But The person I watched the most was accullty the youtuber who had stolen the all the clothes. The TH-camr being BackDoorDisney. It's funny, I watched his videos were he went on and on about how he didn't do it. But I didn't buy that, bc his video was the last video to show Buzzy. He got lucky they didn't make him do any time but just community service and some fines. Edit: The man who use to run the channel BackStageDisney no longer runs that account and a new member has taken ownership of the brand.
That youtuber did not actually film anything in Wonders themselves, however they did ultimately upload a video of the Cranium theatre after the theft had occurred.
@@sassygworl1452 No he's long gone lol, someone stole the account name out from under him. I can promise you he's not in the community anymore, nor does he have any desire to be
All it takes is a TH-cam search for “Buzzy found” and one of the very first videos that comes up is a short clip from a podcast where an insider from Disney disclosures the fact that it was removed into archive and miscommunication within Disney caused for it to be reported as stolen when in reality Buzzy is sitting inside of Epcot to this very day . The video is five years old not sure how the creator of this video did not mention that podcast.
Great video! That said… you call him “the explorer” about a hundred times, and that description is way, way too nice of you. He definitely, indisputably ceased being an “urban explorer” and became just a “thief” the second he stole pieces of the attractions. Haha.
I love that you have stuck to facts throughout this video. Others throw a lot of useless opinion in their videos. One part of your script that isn’t accurate is at 23:07 because someone knows where Buzzy is, the person or people who removed it.
aw i remember hearing about buzzy for the first time in jenny nicholson’s video a couple years ago where she also gave the run down on buzzy’s lore and theorized what might’ve happened to him, I can’t believe he still hasn’t been found since then that so crazy how someone can hide a huge animatronic like that somewhere
If I don’t get an answer to where Buzzy is in my lifetime, I’m going to haunt Disney. The Wonders of Life Pavilion closed before I could go there, but damn it I need to know what happened to Buzzy
This is crazy to me. Do they - *a multi billion dollar company* - not have security cameras - *in their highly lucrative amusement park* - and make regular checks on close-off areas/equipment? If they do, surely they'd just go "Oh, he disappeared . Let's check cameras between those times."
That is what makes the case so interesting and shocking- they did not have any cameras in this area! People had been stealing things from Wonders of Life for ages with no repercussions. While you did need employee access to reach the area behind Wonders of Life, a rogue employee was making backstage access cards for anyone who asked. It really is a perfect storm of getting away with a crime.
@@WoLArchive Oh my god. So it seems this was bound to eventually happen. I need that NotLikeThis Twitch emote right now. 😮💨 Damn it, Disney. 13:40 seriously, what was that fool thinking when he grabbed his phone away from the cops and tried to put it in his pocket....was he really expecting to be allowed to walk out of the cop station with it? Jeez....
Clearly that douchebag is a career criminal. You can obviously see his cocky, arrogant attitude during the brief interrogation video clip. Like the loony Black Knight from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", this criminal is mentally telling the police "I'M INVINCIBLE!"
not a good look to be sure but id like to have seen the warrant for his phone or those cops should have had the book thrown at them whether they ended up right in the end or not
Honestly the smartest move would have just to have mentioned they don't have a warrant for his phone and that they'll have to deal with his lawyer if they don't give it back to him
@@atemplarknight8886 Funny thing, is that you're correct about that, that the police cannot search your phone without probable cause......and they wouldn't have had any probable cause if he didn't grab his phone back, but doing so, shows that he wants to withhold it from the police, thus giving them probable cause in the process :) meaning if he had left the phone alone and stated they couldn't search it, the police would have had to give it back to him right away.... ...but since he grabbed it back first, that instantly gave the cops probable cause :P oh the irony!
It was super upsetting that TheUrbanExplorer came out as a thief. He seemed pretty chill and about that Disney thing about lying to police and stuff. I believe they have done it before so yeah...
You wanna know something crazy? They found Buzzy. What happened was that he was never actually stolen. WDI and maintenence came in with an official request from Disney to remove Buzzy and put him somewhere else to prevent possible casualties. Apparently people were sneaking in and trying to take pictures with Buzzy and below Buzzy was this hole you could easily fall in if you weren't careful and Disney didn't want that. However, they didn't bother to notify security or operations about the removal which led to them believing they Buzzy was stolen. Now his clothes were indeed stolen, no one really knows where that is, but Buzzy himself was not. For some unknown reason though because of all of that, Disney didn't want to comment on any of it because they didn't want to be part of this whole conspiracy. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you ask me.
I believe after Buzzy’s clothes were stolen Disney sent a couple cast members to take him down for 2 reasons: 1)Not having the actual animatronic stolen 2) Just for image, Cuz I mean like would you really wanna see a nude animatronic in a abandoned part of the park? I don’t really thinks so. But, that’s just what I believe 🤷
He was not nude...! After removing Buzzy's jacket, hat, and headphones, he was sitting there in his green one piece jumpsuit with boots. He didn't have little naked butt cheeks sitting in the chair or anything 😅
Cranium Command is one of very few things i recall about my Epcot trip at 6 years old (along with Test Track and getting lost at Innoventions) and I was throughly charmed by Buzzy! I love this in depth video about it.
I have a possible theory. I saw the video in disney urban exploring first and something you said in it stuck with me. The theft of Buzzy turned people against urban exploring. What if it was on purpose? Maybe Disney hid him and made it look like a theft to discredit urban exploration. Sure, small things had been stolen. But by hiding a beloved character and saying that urban explorers stole him, the wider Disney community would shun the practice. That’s my theory. What do you think?
Since the clothing being stolen and then him being stolen are kind of close in time I'm thinking it was the same person (with some assistance). May seem dramatic to compare it to murder, but for example, some people who are killers tend to not only come back to the crime scene, but due to the "high" of it all eventually fading over time they feel as if they have to do even more to their victim get a "higher" sensation. Just stealing clothes and props weren't enough for them anymore I'm theorizing. The image of the stolen head literally gives me serial killer vibes. He claims he never stole him, but wants to post pictures of his head? Even if it was a spare, why post something like that? Clearly wants to mess with people. Either way, Buzzy was definitely forcefully removed, not only Disney would have removed him correctly and more efficiently (I think regardless of time) and even if they did hack the cord off I believe Disney would have at least cleaned up the fuel on the ground. May not seem important, but I can see how that may be something else they'd pay attention to and resolve. Also, it wouldn't make sense for them to clean it afterward if they didn't do it, as technically it's evidence of the crime. As for the other AA, I'm guessing it was probably removed afterward to prevent further theft (I couldn't make out whether it seemed forcefully removed, or not). Considering whoever it was clearly didn't care about the label on Buzzy, it's sad to say I don't have high hopes for him. As someone in the comments said I'd like to think Buzzy is sitting next to Hoot Gibson completely intact and fine, but the reality is whether it was that dude, or a few, whoever it is probably ripped Buzzy apart and sold him for parts.
It would absolutely make sense for Buzzy to be "stolen" and reported as such. There's only so much investgation the police will do, and then it's cold. But it still being reported as stolen will inspire fear into other urban explorers, and cited as a reason to be concerned about urban exploration if another explorer should ever have to enter a legal court case with Disney etc... Plus it keeps Disneyland security more vigilant if explorers are perceived as a threat. And of course, should they ever want to bring Buzzy back they can just be like "whoops! he was in our massive archives all this time! Sorry!" and face no repercussions from the police. The hack job removal might have even been on purpose for that very reason, it's not like it would be irreparably damaged
Me starting this video: huh I like Disney lore but I’m not sure who Buzzy is, let’s watch Me at the end of this video: *BUZZY MY BELOVED WHERE ARE YOU*
I only hope that whomever took him, that Buzzy is in a good home being taken good care of by somebody who loves him like us. I know, I have a habit of talking about animatronics and other such things like a shelter pet, but they're important pieces of their company's history dangit! Whether it's Chuck E Cheese or Showbiz Pizza or Disney or anything else, they're all a part of a bigger picture that's becoming harder to preserve and remember because companies don't realize (or some don't care) how much their fanbases care about them! 😿
On Scott Curtis's (voice of Buzzy) video "Let's Find Buzzy!", BackDoorDisney commented "Ah a Buzzy video. It makes me feel like its 2018 again. You need to come try looking in my garage. You would have much better luck finding it there". Then he asks how he can redeem himself. Surprised this hasn't gained more traction, as its unnerving at the very least.
I just looked and didn’t find it. BDB probably deleted it. I hadn’t heard of the dude before Buzzy was stolen but him posting that and later deleting it sounds like something he would do.
@@im_dead_ghost (reposting because my comment got filtered for including the screenshot link) He must have deleted it very recently. Scott has the screenshot posted on his Twitter so the proof is preserved thankfully.
For the first time I have watched a Disney video where I didn’t know the story! All of the ones online that say I bet you didn’t know this I knew! You have a new subscriber. I wish Disney would open a museum with past ride artifacts and nostalgia. I know there is a small one inside Hollywood Studios but no where big enough. It could be a stand alone place in Florida! I would totally pay to see the history and all of my old favorites from the parks!
On the Wiki page, someone commented that Buzzy tore himself out and escaped. I figured to go after the person who stole his clothes. I don't blame him.
It seems more plausible that Disney removed it themselves. it's mentioned in the video that a mess was left behind, but it really doesn't seem that way at all. Small puddles of hydraulic fluid leaking from lines that were probably drained for the removal of the figure seems more than likely. Also in that clip down in the pit section where it was mentioned that the other figure was you can clearly see a "little giant" style ladder left behind. All of the those hydraulic lines are actually cut pretty clean like a proper tool was used not some small knife or such. While it is way more exciting to think that some crazy bastards cut the thing down and smuggled it out in some grand heist. The mess alone they would've left in trail makes it seem so unlikely. I hope Disney produces some show about the archives and behind the scenes of park memorabilia for Disney+ and they just lowkey put buzzy in the background of some shots in a warehouse without talking about it, because people will lose their minds lol.
To me it's obvious that the vendors at the festivals should be suspects. Large vehicles, access, large boxes and dollies for moving bottles in/out. Means & opportunity.
The story of him just being displaced is certainly possible. If he was just placed in some warehouse somewhere it would probably on a pallet in a rack, possibly with some sort of tarp over it. You'd be surprised how mjch and how easilly things get misplaced in warehousing. Especially on such a big terain with so many storage areas and so many people working there. If someone put him in a wrong place the paper trail is a dead end. And since there probably are houndreds of these sorts of items in storage some things not moved for decades, it could easilly go unnoticed for many years.
"Urban explorers" who steal and destroy makes me so angry, ruining it for everyone else. Though this wasn't really a regular explorer but an It's sadly obvious Buzzy was stolen and missing, probably hidden somewhere in some rich persons home.
Thanks for all the positivity on this video everyone! I have another video coming soon going deeper into Disney urban exploring, so keep an eye out for that one!
Orlando Sentinel is notoriously libelous.

There are connections inside things because you never know how long a line will need to be, and having it attached permanently creates more problems than alleviating them.
i would love to know more about that japan collection story!! do you have a link/source that you’re able to share?
In that case, then I guess the biggest wrinkle is why Disney didn't correct the reports of the entire AA being stolen if [redacted] only swiped his clothes.
if this was the case then why did Disney not clarify that he wasn't stolen?

wow this is actually pretty logical
Makes sense it's also possible they changed their minds and decided to destroy it or recyle the parts given the ride wasn't exactly popular even for a short time after it opened
Yes but why would someone take a do not destroy tag?
@@Serge_Jackson Disney backstage "souvenir" idk, you could sell it for like $10 or smth.
Look at the attraction as it stood the last time we saw Buzzy, they were using the introductory theater for bulk storage of random crap and Buzzy's room was completely abandoned!
so sad
Wasn't the wiring and all in his mount/stand sloppily cut, though? If Disney themselves removed Buzzy for the archives or whatever, I doubt they would take a figurative hacksaw to hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

This video is phenomenal and I’m about to binge your channel :D
why not break the whole set down? Like everything buzzy the everything so when a person does break in they only thing they can get is the dust

I mean, how do we even know that's what happened to him?🤨
It could very well be possible he could still be in one piece somewhere...

Though it's Disney own fault too, like why was there no security camera and why was it so easy to steal.
He did sell stuff he stole from other people so
Buzzy's getting lost is not that improbable even with his size.
I hope he does. It's sad to think he's in somebody's basement without his clothes for all these years.

There were no security cameras in the Wonders of Life pavilion. At opening, the only cameras in the building were in the Body Wars wing and only transmitted a live feed to the attraction's control tower. After they were decommissioned, there was no security of any type in there.
They probably don't give a crap
They should’ve had cameras that were put into the attractions in case guests got careless or salacious.
Even with cameras in the right spots, it's still a big task of finding the footage and hopefully it wasn't written over like much security footage is after a certain period of time.

- “How do you LOSE an ANIMATRONIC?!”
- “You forget to cherish him.”
“Disney advised ____ had photographs of other animatronics that were reported stolen last year”
Other animatronics were stolen? I want to hear more about those and I wonder why no one knows anything about those.
I wonder if that was a mistake in the vid. Other props and costumes were stolen, but this is the first in any vid I've heard of other animatronics stolen.
Buzzy was really large if you look at the earliest photos of him
But that guy the one that stole the clothing from the haunted mansion is guilty He only just stole his clothes.
That...entirely makes sense, as the suspect, depending on how arrogant or whatever they were, would then say something along the lines of 'no, it happened this way'.
the dude had photos on his phone of stolen disney content and had it. this is just speculation that they falsified info for.....some reason?
Five Nights at Cranium Command
That's definitely it! 🥰

such an interesting video! i havent heard about buzzy in a long while, and ive never heard about the clothing being stolen part!! thank you for putting so much research into it!
I’m guessing they caught wind of the clothing being stolen and had the figure removed out of fear that it’d be vandalized further.
The cords being cut like that isn’t very surprising either considering they’re completely replaceable and inexpensive since it looks like they’re just air valves.
With the figure not being used again in any future projects it seems likely that they could do that
Then why report it stolen?
Respect the honesty. So many others would have said "I was four, BUT I REMEMBER EVERYTHING!" for brownie points.
Maybe he was permanently connected to the hydraulic system.
i know he's just an animatronic but the photo of the cut wires and his missing parts head feel so gruesome...
It would explain why they did declare him as stolen and why nobody has seen him since he was either sold to private collectors or Disney threw him away or both
Such a good video you deserve more subs, a video diving deeper into the Disney urban explorers would be very interesting
Edit: The man who use to run the channel BackStageDisney no longer runs that account and a new member has taken ownership of the brand.
im suprised how backdoor got away with being a "cast member" and not get caught untill the police got involved!
That youtuber did not actually film anything in Wonders themselves, however they did ultimately upload a video of the Cranium theatre after the theft had occurred.

Haha.
The hoot and chief horizons story is one of my favorites. The video is amazing.

The Wonders of Life Pavilion closed before I could go there, but damn it I need to know what happened to Buzzy
fr like it keeps me up at night
I saw Buzzy when training as a CM, circa Spring/Summer 2017. It was a deliberate showing though, not like a 'snuck back there' thing.
Oh yeah? What happened? (:
Just found your channel and I’m so impressed. The level of detail you put into these videos does not go unnoticed. Brilliant work! Thanks you!
This is crazy to me. Do they - *a multi billion dollar company* - not have security cameras - *in their highly lucrative amusement park* - and make regular checks on close-off areas/equipment? If they do, surely they'd just go "Oh, he disappeared . Let's check cameras between those times."
It must have been an inside job. These people are so embarrassing.
Like the loony Black Knight from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", this criminal is mentally telling the police "I'M INVINCIBLE!"
not a good look to be sure but id like to have seen the warrant for his phone or those cops should have had the book thrown at them whether they ended up right in the end or not
Honestly the smartest move would have just to have mentioned they don't have a warrant for his phone and that they'll have to deal with his lawyer if they don't give it back to him
@@atemplarknight8886 Funny thing, is that you're correct about that, that the police cannot search your phone without probable cause......and they wouldn't have had any probable cause if he didn't grab his phone back, but doing so, shows that he wants to withhold it from the police, thus giving them probable cause in the process :)
meaning if he had left the phone alone and stated they couldn't search it, the police would have had to give it back to him right away....
...but since he grabbed it back first, that instantly gave the cops probable cause :P oh the irony!

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you ask me.
source?
Buzzy wanted out and found a knife and cut of his wiring to get away from the ancient place
Man it’s been a long time since there was a coherent new buzzy video. Awesome!

Disney does like to reuse animatronics in other rides. Maybe Buzzy is disguised as another animatronic in a popular ride just hiding in plain sight.
Cranium Command is one of very few things i recall about my Epcot trip at 6 years old (along with Test Track and getting lost at Innoventions) and I was throughly charmed by Buzzy! I love this in depth video about it.
Fans should make Missing Persons posters of Buzzy and post them at conventions.
Why about river country?
We need a Pixar film about the Buzzy animatronic.
Interesting that Epcot used to be science based, the fitness clip was hilarious, that place is nothing but high fructose corn syrup now! Great vid!

I went to Cranium Command as a kid and every once in a while I think about it, was nice to learn more about it!

Gotta love that Deep breakfast in the background.
