This is my favorite story by Edgar Allan Poe! The narration makes it look like it came from an adaptation of the story! :D

I know I have commented quite a few times but after hearing several of these of Poe's stories. I can say Mt French as Vincent Price was to Poe's adaptation movies, you are the voice to his stories.

Thanks for the post as always. It is very much like a scene from the movie Masque of the Red Death also by Poe,The corrupt monarch, the dwarf, the tiny dancer and the gorilla suit (although only one).I wonder which one was written first or did the movie makers add this to the Masque.

    • @kelvinsmith6854

It was added to pad out the movie, as the original story is short .

Just wanted to point out a bit of foreshadowing in this story. At the beginning of the tale the author muses on the relationship between fat and humor. He suggests that there may be something innate in the material that breeds humor. Now, what were candles once made of in olden days? Animal fat. The description of the king and his men foreshadows the climax of the story: fat is funny and the jester's last jest is to take advantage of an abundant supply of the jolly substance.
